Yeah i looked for a place to start a tyranny thread, but the choices are limited. I'm sure if we start one and a suitable sub-forum is created Kryo would only be to happy to move it for us.
I might see if i get the time over the weekend to create a new banner for us.

Greetings all.  GC3 should be fun - and great to see so many of the old gang are going to be around for it!

Its good to see all of you too.

Yea I just reinstalled the game and playing for the first time in like 4 years. I had a gigantic game going for over a year when my computer died.

Playing for score eventually sucked the life out of it.
Yeah it did.

It looks like I'll have to check out the GC3 site.

Hello to all!

I see some familiar names and faces. Good to see that there is still an interest in the GalCiv universe.

I hope GalCiv III will attract some of the old crowd back from the past. I still submit a game or two when I find the time.

Cheers everyone!

Hey guys!!! Great to see you all back, especially great to more Founders badges on ToE members!!!
I just reinstalled GC2 and have been playing through the campaign, something i have never done. Figured i'd get to know the story for once!
Will be fantastic to get the old gang together for some MP games of GC3!

Don't going looking for intelligent threads mate! Everyone is an expert on the forums these days (about a game that is not even in alpha yet), that is if you can find a thread not whining about carriers or steam!

I'm actively trolling the forums, nothing really going on, but it's early days still.
:)

Hi all!  It's good to see you here!

You're probably already aware, but in case you're not, there's good news on the carrier front...

Quoting Frogboy, reply 38

Those who like the idea of designing carriers and seeing carriers in action in fleet battles I think will be happy.

Those who imagine fleet battles that play like MOO2 (i.e. where you're micro managing individual units) will be less happy.

:)

With all this talk of GC3, I figured I'd load up TOA and give it another shot.  Not a metaverse game or anything.  I played on normal difficulty and was disappointed in how poorly the AI did.  I guess playing suicidal for so long spoiled me.

Anyhow, I didn't build a single military ship.  I thought I had influence victory turned off, but I won by influence fairly early.  I'm not sure how that happened.  I wasn't even through the tech tree and there was a lot of the galaxy that hadn't been colonized.  Here's the result...

hahaha, so anti climatic!!
I've been playing the campaign, i had never done it. Looking forward to playing some more normal games though..

Have fun with the campaign! I started one a long time ago, but went to sandbox before finishing it.

I'm running a new TotA game on tough.  I'm liking the AI much better.  The NPCs are actually pushing back and pretty much the entire galaxy has been colonized.  There are wars breaking out and I didn't even have to instigate any of them.

I was invited to assist one of the NPCs with a war, but declined the invite.

I still haven't bought a single warship and I have the most powerful military by a small margin.  I've been trading for fighters as usual.  Influence starbases are my primary attack weapon.  My economy is overheating. I might have to change strategies from econ to research if I don't want to hit the penalty limit.

The game is so much more fun when not playing for score.  My next game will have to be at a higher difficulty level, but I think I'm reaching a good balance.

Oh, absolutely!
I found painful to be a great difficulty to play at for proper games. It pushes back at you but not so much that you need to resort to any of our old score tactics to be competitive. You're able to play at a modest pace and can play most any style you like.
I'd be playing a lot more myself, but GTAV and Battlefield 4 are keeping more than busy!!!

I never tried any of the campaigns but I was always a little bit curious how they might play out regarding the back story and all.

I think I might try to play all of the different civs before the next incarnation appears (I've got plenty of time), a promise I made to myself a long time ago (DL,DA?) but just wound up playing my favourite three or four over and over again.

In my last game I was using it as a lab experiment, sort of (tiny, one opponent, 8 minors, etc.) and basically just screwing around trying unorthodox methods, like gifting all my worlds to one minor civ, with the exception of one class 20 planet I think it was plus my home world. I would then bribe most of them to go to war with each other. *_*

LOL!  Epic!  Just instigate and watch the mayhem!  XD

As someone who has slowly worked up to Painful, I appreciate hearing that it isn't all that bad to be here and I don't have feel a need to push to reach higher and higher levels.  It is a satisfying contest and I don't play for score.

Happiness!

It's good to see you in the Tyranny thread, erischild.

Yeah, we played for score and came up with some "outside the box" methods.  It was pretty fun for a while.  Over time, score took too prominent of a place.  When we backed away from scoremongering, it became fun again.

We'll probably be playing some co-op games in GalCiv3.  Time to kick some alien butt.  :)

In the past, I had settled on crippling as my standard fun game.

Just played one and found it much more difficult than I remember. >:(

hehe, thats ok, i played a quick game a while ago on challenging, and got my ass kicked!! If you havent dusted off the game for a while, it can take a bit to get back into the swing of it!

I'm right there with you on that, but you're ahead of me so far.  I'm only back up to Painful now and have no idea where I'll end up.  I'd bet Suicidal will be too much though.

I'm on my 3rd game since firing up TotA and a lot of it's coming back.

Yeah.  Playing on lower difficulty levels is helping. That economy can be a fickle beast. You're bouncing around the -500 level and a few weeks later, you're suddenly in the green.

I haven't figured the math out yet.  On my current game (Painful) I wasn't even listed in the top 15 races for quite a while.  Even the minors were more powerful then me.  A year later and my area of influence is second only to the Thalan. The root cause was the economy.

Tried out a Metaverse game on Crippling.  I didn't build a military until the Yor attacked.  Seeing "Defeat" on the first fleet battle was pretty funny.  I hadn't seen that screen for a long time.  I thought my first fighters looked pretty good.  Not good enough though.

It was the only war I fought.  I got alliances with the other races and the Yor surrendered to the Thalan.

The game wouldn't post to the Metaverse until I made IE my default browser.

Im going to have play a few game i think....;)

Just finished watching Jimmie Johnson take title #6, so might just celebrate that for a while and think about starting a game...

Have fun with it, Neilo.

I'm doing a game on the next difficulty up from crippling.  I forget what it said, but it might be painful.

It's been at the stage where I could just get alliances with the remaining AIs, but I'm trying to reach a military victory.  I have to buy 4 huge ships each turn to avoid the economic penalty and my military is growing beyond usefulness.  I'll try to stick it out for the military victory.  No promises.

For those who might be visiting and don't know, 3vilTwin1 is my Steam account that has TotA and Demigod.

Ohh Demigod....wish that community didn't die..loved that game! I'll have to re-install that too!!!

Yeah, it was pretty fun while it lasted.  I especially liked the tournament games.

Here's my latest from TotA.  I finally got through the military victory conditions.

Well, that was going to be my last game for a while.  But then my wife kinda goaded me into upping the difficulty to suicidal.  So now there's a new game in progress.

I really like the unique tech trees.

I'm usually top dog on tech, but that's not easy to do on suicidal.  The Torians are on top of everything by a wide margin and I've been buying trade goods from them.

I've been threatened several times by the evil races, so I've had to buy fighters to have some semblance of a military.  It's typical for me to buy fighters, but there hasn't been such an urgency to do it until this game.

I think I can turn this one around for a win though.  The humans are pretty overpowered when it comes to diplo.

I guess the chores can wait. ;)
