Report New WinCustomize Bugs and Other Issues

While we have worked very hard to make the new site error free there are always a issue here and there that were simply missed.  So this is the place that we would like you to submit site issues to.

Please take the time to read through items that have already been submitted so that you are not duplicating issues.   This will make it much easier for us in determining new or old bugs.

Also, when reporting a problem its very important that you include the URL to the page where the problem occured.  Also be as descriptive as possible.  And if it is a display issue please be sure to include what browser you are running and its version.

Regarding the occasional comments about things not working properly in Opera.

If Opera is set to mask itself as Firefox (that is, send a user-agent to the server that looks like a Firefox user-agent, with no mention of Opera) most of the obvious flaws disappear. I refuse to do this personally, as it would lead to Opera making less of an impact on your server statistics.

It does however mean that the first, and very simple, thing you can do to improve the site in Opera is to make sure that any user-agents including the word Opera are handled both server and client-side the same as Firefox would be.

What confuses me however this line in the source:
if(m_Opera == true) document.write('');
(Apparently it's impossible to write less-than or greater-than symbols in the comments if you're trying to show HTML code, there should be code to load an Opera specific stylesheet visible in the document.write() function.)
Clearly some testing has been done in Opera, but you seemed to stop half-way; leaving the somewhat sloppy looking results that can currently be seen.

bohemy, in IE, you logged in, went to My Settings, changed the skins per page to 48, clicked update, went to the Windowblinds gallery and only saw 8 skins?

Right now I know-andrew explained that Citizens see only 8skins per page-but(with my higher access level) I should see more skins, but I have only choise of 8skins on my site right now.

Bottom line - Opera is not supported. Debate and speculate all you like but we do not officially support Opera at this time on wincustomize.com.

I haven't noticed all the problems listed above but I haven't really checked out the new site but there is one thing I noticed and that is your internet time display at the bottom r side of the page. For one could you make it civilian time not military. Not every body knows it also your time is one hour and 5 mins fast.

Bushman, please restrict your replies in this post to comments about www.wincustomize.com. There is a seperate post in the stickies area of 'Site Issues' for both comments and bugs about forums.wincustomize.com.

For those of you who may see the articles page on your Personal Sites as 'missing' articles...

One of the things that we were endevoring to do with Wincustomize 2007 was clean up some of the inconsistancies from Wincustomize 2005. When you create an article, you have the option of listing it as a Universal article or an Article Only. Same goes for the forums; you have the option of making your Post a Universal post or a Forum Post only.

What that means;

  • Universal - Your Article/Post will show up across all of our websites (and forums if more than one forum/website share a common ForumID/CategoryID).
  • Article Only - Your Article will show up only as an article on our websites, but NOT in our forums.
  • Forum Only - Your Post will show up in the forums only, and NOT as an article on any of our websites.

One of the issues with the old Personal Page system (please note, now called Personal Sites - as there is definately more than one page ) was that it would show every post and article that you, as a user, created, ignoring the flag which determined under what circumstances it was created. The new Personal Sites articles page pays attention to this flag (and handles it correctly). Therefore, you may have a few articles that are no longer listed on your articles page. If you find yourself missing articles, please visit the https://forums.wincustomize.com website and click on 'My Posts' at the top. Upon editing a post, you can change its type to Universal, and it should show up on your articles page after a few moments.

I hope that clears the air about some articles issues. If you are still experiencing issues and dont feel that they are applicable to the explanation above, please feel free to continue replying about them.

Good explanation Andrew. Thank you! I read your long answer sheet to questions asked and did not see a specific response about why the columns on the My Skins pages do not total and only the "overall" column totals. I know you guys have your hands full, but I just want to know if they will total at somepoint down the road.

That cleared it up Andrew, thank you very much. My articles are finally "home" again! Only thing is, there is no longer the community or general category to put our articles under. Only Internet, tutorial and various computer categories. Is this something new or will we have all the categories back that we once had? And thanks for all your efforts to get the answers to us as quickly as you have. I really appreciate it.

Ok the Favorites list is working now, but I'm a bit confused about something. Before when I was looking at a skin there were two options: recommend this skin and feature this skin. Recommending it would just add it to the Favorites list and Featuring it would display it on the profile page of the WC sites. Now when I add a skin to Favorites it automatically makes it the Featured skin as well. Is that option gone now to just add it and not feature it at the same time or have I overlooked it?

[quoteAndrew:]Example 2

http://phuture-design.wincustomize.com/MySkins.aspx?ACID=727634
The above link brings me to a page :
HTTP404 - File not found ( URL below - notice the ACID=727634 is missing from below)

Fairry I'm seeing that the url you posted redirects to https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx?my

Yes-sometimes it was 404 error sometimes to the url you you printed above , but its still going to wrong url either way.

Now I have no place to sign in on front page - no skin list etc - just a solid area ..i can only log on in forum - no where else...

Zubaz:Fairyy, have you seen the awards on your personal page? You are the top!
jeeze - there were 6 of them now there are 9 Top 1's - top one what

On my personal site's favorites (which are back btw), the library icon is under the checkbox (In FF, at least)

Ok. all the issues i was having was with Fire Fox. All the bell's and whistle's work fine with IE.

In Firefox I can not select more than 8 skins per page, so it isnt an Opera issue...

I see that too. I think the placement could be better. Perhaps in the upper left corner of the item description instead. And then put the library icon on the right side. *shrug* The checkbox gets hidden and the library icons kinda obscure the screenshot of the theme (not just on the Favorites pages but elsewhere too).

In another thread someone mentioned that only Subscribers can select more than 8 skins per page. They're considering changing that number.

In this thread he mentioned only Citizens couldn't....

Oh, well ok then. So much being posted all over the place about the same things it's hard to keep track.

Fairry: I can't make much sense out of that Sorry. The redirect has never failed, and yes, that is the correct redirection Url. If you want to see another user's skins, use skins.aspx?acid=[accountid] or go to their personal site, skins.aspx.

As for the login issues, I'll probably need a screenshot to know exactly what you're describing there. In any case, please clear your temp. internet files for whatever browser you may be using. Firefox has had a nasty habit of hanging onto old cache with this launch.

As for awards, we're aware of the issues and looking into them.

PurrBall, Bebi: My apologies, I was mistaken about Citizen being the lower limit for changing skins. Bebi was correct in referencing the other post which stated that only subscribers could change the number of skins being viewed.

I can't seem to find an answer to whether of not it is intended that the columns on the My Skins Pages will total or not and if there will be comment notificatin on the page as was before. What's the plan?

kenwas: The 'My Skins' page is still under development. It may end up slightly different than the old site, but that page is not yet complete.
