Ever played a game where you knew...just knew that if you could have talked to the developers even a week or two before they went gold that they could have made the game so much better?

With Sins of a Solar Empire that is exactly what you'll be able to do! Users who pre-order the game will be given access to the beta. No non-disclosures. You don't like what we're doing, you're free to howl from the rooftops about it. Our job (at Ironclad and Stardock) is to make sure that the final game is as good as we can make it.

By pre-ordering and being in the beta, you can let us know what things you think needs to be tweaked. What game mechanics need refinement or even what additions you think the game makes.

That way, the final game is not just more reliable and stable but also has the balancing and tweaking that normally gamers have to wait to some post release "patch" (for those games that even do address balance after release).

The first beta is due out after the New Year (think January).

We look forward to seeing you!  Just click on the store link to pre-order. You can download it or you can have the final version sent to you in its retail box form (and still download it).

will the cd version be avaible in stores... or should i tell the person purchasing sins for me to look online

You can download it while you wait for them to ship the CD. This is a standard option.

Am I correct?

If you order it direct, yes.

he means, can you still get the beta after sins goes gold?

to which the answer is a "probably so" (look up)

Usually the way we work is is that those who pre-order before the beta and for a couple weeks after it starts will gain access to it (at which time your credit card will be charged).

So I checked my CC statement online, and its showing a charge on 01/05/07. Does that mean I should be expecting my beta key any day now?

we cant download it until the beta actually starts correct? then will both online and singleplayer be avaialbe?
or will we all just start clicking random buttons and see what happens?

Zoomba posted in another thread that multiplayer will likely not be available until another beta phase a few months out. The first phase will just be singleplayer.

The first beta will hopefully be out sometime next month, and it will only be single player. The beta test after that will be multi player. Yes, when the beta comes out you can you download it.

That's just a credit card authorization. Basically your bank is making sure you have enough credit for the charge to go through in the future. You haven't been charged yet.

Just asking. When I choose to receive the hard copy, what I should expect this time.

For Dread Lord I received a full retail box which made me a happy monkey, but for Dread Lord all I received through the mail was a CD in a plastic bag, which made me an unhappy ape.

So what form will Sins be delivered, if it's a plastic bag I don't feel the need to order a hard disk (from a collector point of view).

I expect it should be a retail box. The reason DA didn't get one is because there wasn't such a box ever made (there was a box for GC2 Gold, but as DA never went to retail alone, there was no box made for it).

Yes, Sins will come in a retail box with the usual trimmings if you pre-ordered for the CD.

OK. I'm almost in. (Got an email offering the beta). I'm unclear on the Multiplayer part. Is it online now in the beta? Can we just get in there and have a good old fashion slugfest?

(Note: Be easy on a noob. I'm interested in trying a multiplayer game, but this is new to me.)

Not until Beta 3. Right now there's just skirmish vs AI.
