Sins of a Solar Empire announced

Stardock Entertainment, the creators of Galactic Civilizations, and Ironclad Games which includes developers from Homeworld: Cataclysm, have teamed up to bring you an epic real-time, multiplayer, space strategy game that combines much of the epic scale of a traditional 4X strategy title with the real-time 3D experience found in releases such as Homeworld, Total Annihilation, and other such games.

Over the coming months, this site will expand to give you the full story behind this epic new franchise.  A public beta for Sins is expected this January that anyone who pre-orders the game will be able to participate in.  With your help, we hope to put together a space strategy game that players can enjoy for years to come.

On behalf of Stardock Entertainment, the publisher, and Ironclad Games, the developer, I would like to welcome you to the Sins of a Solar Empire website.

I loved Homeworld so much and I'll definitely look forward to it!

No need to worry about that. Stardock works on both sides of the developer/publisher fence. I'm sure they know what works and what doesn't.

ah well... you see...

what works for the publishers doesnt nescessarily work for the devs or the gamers... and thats exactly what I'm worried about

is it me or is this forum bugging a little... I cant post a new thread, I cant edit my old posts, and the pages are buggy (dont load sometimes)

Our web team is working on ironing out a few bugs we discovered with the forum system today.  The bugs should clear up in a few minutes.

As Arilias said, stardock has actually developed its own games, sometimes having another company publish them (ex GC1). They probably understand what the developer needs better than most other publishers.

I can testify that they understand our needs very well - if they didn't I wouldn't be here

if blair's happy, I'm happy

and the delay (while irritating for my impatient half) at least shows a commitment to quality, instead of the dime-a-dozen publishers.

quick question (which I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but I want clarification anyway)

you *will* have to buy stardock to play in the open beta and to get the preorder. right?

not quite. the game is more of a wide-spectrum RTS. hopefully tactics will have a large bearing on combat, but its unlikely to be at the level of total war.

by "wide spectrum" I mean you command every movement (if you want) of a massive empire, at best you will only be able to focus on one or 2 battles at a time, when numerous smaller ones can be raging on (which will be commanded by AI)

and its completely real time, there isnt a large map/sots turn based setup at all.

As per Brad's post above, you will have to have pre-ordered Sins to get into the test.  This is how we've handled beta tests in the past and it tends to work out really well and avoids the people just looking to get a free game while the beta runs.

More details on this will be posted in the coming months as everything gets hammered out.  It's all still very early

Stardock Central (the download manager for all SD betas and products) is a free download. As noted by Zoomba, the final details on the preorder itself will come in the future.

Wow that was quick lol well another game i got to buy. Looks great I cant wait.

Well, the advantage of Totalgaming.net is that it allows you to download the electronic version of the game without having to bother about shipping costs or retail availability. The only things you need is an international credit card and a very good internet connexion.

I was a beta tester for Galciv2 without any problem. And that has allowed me to play the game months before it was available in France without worrying about localization problems. And the exchange rate between euros and dollars make it cheaper to buy a game 40$ than to spend 50 euros wen the exchange rate is 1.25$  = 1 euro

Well, this is fantastic news. So glad to see Stardock working with you guys. I am *very* excited.

I'm sure it's already in the works, what with GC2 having it, but the _one_ small request I have is this: please, PLEASE, enable TRUE 16:10 widescreen support!!

That is all.

Good luck guys, Can't wait to play the final product. I will be pre-ordering for sure.

I'm in ... SD crew has been nothing but fantastic in terms of GCII so if IronClad is going to keep that tradition rolling this will be a fantastic game as well.
