Apparently the ACLU (The clueless union) thinks so!  They have decided that the mayor of Jackson Mississippi, trying to reduce the crime in his city, has been racial profiling Blacks.  The sticky whicket is that he is Black!  And he is decrying the Black on Black Crime!  So of course the perpertrators are going to be black!

But the ACLU has decided that you cannot stop black on black crime as that is racial profiling! (that is why we search 70 year old norwegian grand mothers too)!  It is the epitomy of Orwellian speech!  Soon, police are not going to be able to give out the color of a suspected murderer, because.......it will be racial profiling!  "he was a 25 year old male, color indeterminet"!

What a load of BS!  Have they gone so far now as to accuse people of self racism?  Apparently so.  And the next step is eliminate all reference to color and features as that might lead to profiling as well.

The ACLU has truly lost its purpose.  It no longer is for any civil liberties.  It is against all liberties except for criminals!

Mayor Frank Melton may be a democrat.  But he is not a stupid one.  He is trying to make his city Safe for ALL citizens, not just black ones.  But the Clueless Union is bound and determined to make sure the only ones that have rights, are the criminals.

Aren't they the ones that ruined a small group of young Duke atheletes?

Yep, sounds like their kind of moronic logic. I think they're just grasping at straws these days in a desperate attempt to justify their continued existence.

Can I racial profile my own race? Hmmm...if he's Irish, he's drunk!

That's a joke, but it makes as much sense.

No, an overzealous DA did that.

The linked article says that 71% of the cities population is African-American. So, in this case he's discriminating against the majority.
He's actually trying to solve the problem and of course, solving a problem is the problem. We can't have that!
Sounds like Bush put him up to it - yeah, that's it - Bush made him do it.
ACLU = anti civil liberties union or ACLU = any crackpot loser useless-cause

So, you are now profiling the Nudist crowd.

small person

I'll have to take issue with the word small. As a vertically challenged person, I now feel that I am being profiled by height and I am calling the ACLU.

Not to be argumentative, but I think you can most certainly be racist toward your own race. I think you can be sexist toward your own sex, too. All you need to do according to the ACLU is pick out someone for investigation because of their race. and I have no doubt that if you were a black cop after years of patrolling the projects you'd be far more apt to be suspicious of a black guy running down the street than a white guy.

Remember Jesse Jackson admitting that when he was walking really late New York, and heard footsteps behind him, he turned around and actually felt relief that it was a white person? Think about all the wacko Phil Donahue types that rant about sexism in the workplace, "choice" and all that crap. You don't think he'd be more apt to be tougher on a guy than a woman investigating such? What about all the black people who are biased against other black people of conservative bent, calling them 'uncle toms'?

I think you can most certainly be racist toward your own race. If anything our nation teaches people to loathe what they are above all things. There were plenty of "house" blacks that worked against their race achieving the rights they deserved. Ever watch The Boondocks? Uncle Ruckus?

What exactly is racial profiling? I mean if the population is 71% black, how can you say it is profiling if you get pulled over and you're black. Odds are it will be a black person being pulled over in this town.

Yes, Baker, I agree you can be racist towards your own race. There are black people who think being a lighter skinned black is better than being a darker skinned black. Their are latin people who think being of European descent makes them better than those of Indian heritage. It's not an uncommon thing. There are white people who think they are better than "white trash". etc.

I know it's a serious article but I couldn't help laughing at the antics of you people! hehe, you people....

I applaud that mayor for trying to clean up his city. Let's face it, he's gonna have to do it to get the job done. It's a sad state of affairs but it's reality. The ACLU really needs to do what their accronym suggests, get A CLUE!

How can you not be suspicious of anyone if you're walking down the road late at night and hear someone behind you! Jesse is lucky he was only looking out for one type - which is idiotic because everyone is suspect at a time like that!

Good one.  SO you cannot describe the height of the suspect.

You love being argumentative, and it is even worse when you are right.  I concede your point, and agree.  However, just because you are targetting the criminal areas of a city does not make you a racist.  And if you are going to be stopping people in an area of a city that is all black, in all probability all the stopped suspects will be black.  To conform to the ACLU they would have to start patrolling the non-crime areas of the city with as equal number of officers and patrols, as those prone to crimes.  And that is just stupid.  That is dumbing down the law to the point of being monkeys.

According to the ACLU, it is not arresting people in the exact proportion their race represents of the total population.

YOu have just profiled all the JoeUsers!  For Shame!

No, I agree with you. I don't think what is alleged here was really racist. I'm not even seeing racial profiling as even being a bad thing, frankly, so long as there is due process involved.

We're just taught to loathe who we are to the point that we have white people favoring other races in terms of affirmative action, etc., and being less apt to show even regular consideration for their own. I honestly think that same-race racism is a bigger problem now than traditional racism.

But, again, you're right, you can't just make that statement based on the color of the people involved. Just because someone is black and motivated to investigate blacks in a given area doesn't mean they are being motivated by irrational racial biases.

I should have sent the story to you and let you pen it. Damn it Baker! Your eloquence dwarfs mine!

but then again, yes, you can be racist against your own race. We see it more often in the majority, but then we do see it in the political races where a black republican is running.
