Rome wasn't built in a day gang. The web team is working hard to improve things (a lot of back-end optimizations and coding being done) but it's going to take time for it to happen.

No one is talking days here. This has been going on for weeks. Everyone wishes your team well and hopes for the best. However, I have seen other sites do conversions that have heavy traffic and intensive graphics content and they usually go through a week of touch and go and tune ups and are finished. Here it just goes on and on.

Am I seeing things or is this a intellitxt editor now? Nice edition to the site... I bet a lot of the slow downs here lately are due to work in progress - maybe? SGT

Nice edition? Looks like advertisements to me that I was not going to get as a paid subscriber.

Every day I'm seeing differences with the site....so someone's doing something somewhere.  Ultimately it'll be for the good.

I'm here probably more than anyone....yet still can maintain a sense of patience, so others 'should' be able to as well, surely....

Paul, all due respect (and tons of it), we have heard that before also. Save the patronizing.

I know they will get it fixed in time but that's no need to dismiss things 100%. Hopefully we can have fun with it, but only for so long.

I would say patience has more than extended itself.
Alas, we know the powers that be are aware of the issues too, but awareness thus far has only led to a viscious circle of band aids that have not been permanent resolutions. Now.. on top of the issues we have .... adverstisements to contend with.

If I wanted to have patience, I'd be a doctor!

We were getting great communication for a while there as to what was going on but after the big conversion to the monster server, we were asked to report issues which was done. Suddenly there was no more info just things starting to slow down again. No harm, no foul!

Seems the only thing I can get into at the moment is the forums. Just tried getting to screenshots and windowblinds libraries with no luck.

Speed isn't the issue here (everything loads within a reasonable time), but I have lost some forum functions; ie, ability to use the quote and text edit functions in both IE and Firefox, and to use smilies in Firefox....to use paragraphing in both. Obviously it's a coding thing that'll get sorted out, and I can live with it....as in nobody's twisting my arm to come here to suffer it. I'm not too sure about patience being a virtue, though....I've either become too old and placcid, or too darned lazy to be impatient and let something like slow page loads/non-functioning forum utilities ruffle my feathers.  Besides, WC isn't the only site that gets slow/produces server errors....DA has recently been slow at times, as have others, so hey people, let's not single out WC. Okay, so WC isn't running at its optimum, but whinging about it isn't gonna get it fixed any quicker...it's also additional pressure on those trying to resolve the issues. Brad and the crew are abundantly aware of them, having experienced them as we have, and I'm sure they're endeavouring to find fixes asap. Also, try seeing WC as your corner store and everyone for miles around patronising it. Sooner or later that store is going to be overwhelmed by the traffic....well Stardock/WC, in comparison to many companies with web sites, is your local corner shop and quite small, as opposed to MS, Adobe, Symantec and etc. I suppose it's the price Stardock pays for putting out great and highly popular software....so yeah, how about some commendation and a little patience instead.

I was only at the old site for about 8 months, but that one seemed fairly consistent. As for the new site, it seems to have had issues since day one, so the consistency has gone to the other side. I agree with the overall opinion (or what seems to be a consensus) that the site needs to find a fix before too long. At least before summer is done in the northern hemisphere. I would also add that the new forum format feels and performs in a much more stable way, and so far has shown signs of consistently acceptable performance on my end. Perhaps the first building in "Rome" has been built?

"I would also add that the new forum format feels and performs in a much more stable way"........ Wish that I could say the same right now...not only can I not use the quote, text edit or smilie functions, I just discovered I cannot create posts either. Did everything right - selected the general section and topic, created my title and the body of the post with a link to another article - but I kept getting an error saying it wasn't submitted. On the error page, I could not resubmit because the category and topic boxes would not allow me to enter anything. And yes, I have deleted all my cookies/offline & temporary internet files, but to no avail on either IE or Firefox. Oh, and before anyone suggests this is a hypocritical whinge, it's not....just hoping to let someone at Stardock know what's happening here.

Quote doesn't work for me either. (Firefox 1.5.0.4) At the old forums, when I clicked 'quote,' at least the tags would show up and I could copy paste the quote in it. Now nothing happens. When I click smileys nothing shows up either. (Not whining, just informing) I feel for ya, Starkers.

The method is [has always been] to drag your cursor over the text you wish to copy...then whilst hilighted click on 'quote'...

I just realized that I stopped copying posts before clicking send in case they fizzed away into nothingness. Things aren't all bad.

People who have been here a long time will remain patient, they remember the good times   It's the new and prospective members we should be concerned about. How would you feel, as a newbie, if you visited a site numerous times and couldn't get into anything. You'd quickly get fed up and go elsewhere.  That's business lost. This site is the front end and should be speedy and look the best, for a while now it has been neither.

Speaking of the good times, I just had a look at the messageboard 2 1/2 years ago on the wayback machine. There were 55 threads less than 24hrs old on the general section - today there are only 14. What does that say?

I've been noticing the drop here in the forums for some time now. Its one of the quickest ways to lose visitors...have a site that does not function well. And these new ads peppered throughout the forums doesn't help any either....they're really annoying whe trying to read anything.

OK...now the ads are gone? Or is this just a fluke?
