For a Whale of a good time, join the "B.C. Space Orcas"

Just when you think you have conquered a planet, out from behind its' sun come a hoard of gigantic Doom-Ray equiped killer whales. This is enough to send even the most fierce Drengin running with his tail between his legs. I invite new and experienced players to join with me to take a run at the top. I have found different ways to beat the game at the suicidal level and am willing to give advice to anyone that wants it. I will change my meteverse name if someone joins my empire that is ahead of me 5 months after the recalc. The first 20 players to reach 100,000 points on the metaverse will become senators. You will be given no duties to perform except to have fun and help all of us reach the top. We now have a website. It can be found at WWW Link Come one come all. Bye for now. TBAY

Hi, everybody

There is something very odd in metaverse. My point suddendly drop 320 000 to 250 000 when I post my 16th game worth of 90 000 points

Have anybody any explanation?

Jarru

That hurts. Maybe I'm paranoid, but your score before (320k x 2 = 640) and the 90k are 730k. One-Third of this is about 250. Seems there is another drop like after the sixth game (50%).
I read something about a drop after the 11th game, but lots of players said that this is no more. Seems now to be after the 16th.

Been playing as much as I can but have never done anything with Metaverse. Any advice before I try my first Metaverse game?

Thanks,

Devast. The first thing I would suggest is to join our empire. The main things that influece your score are population, military strength, economy and research. Read some of our empires posts,(this is our thread) and you will find a lot of advice as to different strategies to increase your scores. And Jarru. Your Dillema is the reason why I am starting with another character. It seems that the longer you play with a character the more penalties they throw at you. With my original character I suffered a lot because I posted 4 losses when I first started. Bye for now. TBAY

Thanks Syrrus. So, in order to get the medal indicating which level I actually play at, I have to play above it. And, the more games you play, the more penalised you are in your rank. Geez, what a system!    I'm starting to see why so many people complain about it.

I would like you all to welcome our newest Orca. Please give a rousing ovation for ShrineGuard. I think ShineGuard might be a lady, so behave guys. I am basing this on the picture for your character. Please correct me if I am wrong. Anyways Shrineguard is a new player so please help with any questions She/he might have about the game. Bye for now. TBAY

There isn't much difference in a metaverse game than a regular one. The only difference is that your score is uploaded to the server. Having said that, you can tell that we have been looking for ways to get the highest scores possible. Difficulty plays a minor role as it seems crippling-suicide doesn't make much a difference but cakewalk thru tough does seem to make a difference. Map size tends to make a big difference but I think that is only because the bigger ones allow for more population, military, etc.

While there are the few of us trying to max out scores (and prove to SD there are exploits) the main purpose of our empire is to just have fun as well as give us a place to chat about the game. If you have any questions, we are more than willing to try and help out so feel free to ask away. Till later!

Hi,

Out empires new member, Jarkki, is my alter ego. I try to get again to top three player.

Map size allows for more planets, but so does simply turning up the planetary abundance value. Useful if you don't want to play larger maps, or aren't sure if your computer can handle them (both true for me).

One thing i did a few games back that may have added to my score was building the spin center and the omega defense on the same planet, and leaving 9 battleships there... ( triple hit points lol)

The reason i did it was i didn't want anyone else going to war with me, i was busy fighting 2-3 of the other civs at the time. From what i've read, i think this should improve your score.

I want to get into top10, but i don't feel like playing gigantic map which i need to do it...

Funny thing is at large you get a really good game out the AI, and a so-so score. While at gigantic it feels like a chore to finish out a game, and generally the AI falls behind so it's easier, but you get a better score...

Warning, cheesy exploit included...

I just posted a game that scored 85k. In this game I rushed to huge hull tech and started pumping out a few with stingers. This put me in the top military position and kept me there as I upgraded my ships. Having that advantage, I never went to war. Yes it was a long drawn out game as I basically just won a culture victory without building any culture starbases. Since the only option I have available is for a conquest victory, after the last planet switched I won a military victory and never fired a shot. To give me time to gain the techs for the huge ships I avoided the diplomatic techs and without communiction it kept the AI from attacking. Once I got ahead of them in military power I sped throught the diplo techs to get to the forms of government so I could afford those ships. I probably could have extended the game by giving planets back to the last AI so I could increase my population/military ranking, but to be honest I was starting to grow bored with the experiement. I think this does prove that battles do not make a lot of difference. My population was only a little over 3t and the game was only 15k less than my previous game where I had 8t pop and had to use my military to win the game. I think the 5t in population is what made that difference.

End exploit stuff....

gallagher118 - I have to agree, the gigantic maps are rather drawn out. Once you basically beat the AI back, you've won but you have to clean up all the hold out planets. I think med-large maps are more of a challange too, as far as the game goes. Gigantic maps are a challange of staying interested until the end, at least in a conquest victory, but easy as far as the AI is concerned.

On a side note, that game has put me 9k behind Jarru and moved us into the 4th place spot. I've also added some color to the site. I'm still playing around with it during breaks from the game. Till later.

Perhaps I should have posted about this earlier. When a planet defects, you get the lot: all the population, whatever they have built, undamaged. You don't have to reduce your own population through invasion, you don't have to damage anything through invasion tactics -- and you don't have to worry about the AI re-invading, unless you do something else that provokes them into war. My last game was a Military Conquest victory, but I won almost entirely through getting planets to defect (and finally got a 10k+ score). It seems fairly clear that the system rewards building ships, not blowing them up.

I'm impressed that Norad was able to get the entire galaxy to defect. I was sitting there waiting for the Korx to defect for what seemed like a game year, while the Drengin planets went over fairly steadily. Is it just me, or does defection seem to shut down for some races in some circumstances?

Are their any penalties/bonus other than galaxy size from the galaxy setup ?

Seems like setting blind start, no tech trading should give a bonus, but do they ?

Also seems like disabling victory conditions should be negative.

------------------------------------------------------------

As far as planet flipping, it is a good way to go. I've been trying to use it more to keep my population high. I generally take some of their planets, either easy ones or good production/research ones then build/protect a bunch of influence bases to flip the rest.

Much easier to manage this as well. (simpler to build lots of constructors and not quite as many transports.)

One drawback is you don't get a free tech.

gallagher118 I am sure that turning off tech trading does not give you any bonuses. One of my lowest scores on a huge map playing at the suicidal level was with tech trading off. The game is much more challenging and more fun with it off but you are not rewarded for it. Disabling victory conditions gives you a higher score as a military victory has the highest multiplier. As to your other queries I am as lost as you are. They made a great game but it seems they do not Know how to reward proficient players. It is frustrating in that respect but I still greatly enjoy playing the game. Also playing at the suicidal level takes about twice as long to finish and max. out all areas, yet you only get a very small bonus over the crippling level. There seem to be a lot of players that feel the same as we do, but the devs seem to be more interested in adding more features than fixing the existing ones. Every time they add new features there are more bugs to be repaired which means they have no time to fix the old problems. I have learned in my life that sometimes you have to take one step back to take two steps forward. Bye for now. TBAY

Orca777 Here, I have a stratagy for the more daring amongst us. If you have the troops and transports needed, allow your enemy to colonize and develope a planet for you, then take it by force. However, this can result in spectacular losses aswell as profit.

PS: No bodies E-mail shows up for me, Whats up? I want to know so I can get my race portrate to Norad.

Well i should be into the top10, right with jarru and major tom, so we'll have 3 in the top10.

I need to look for a job... I've been treating this game like a job for the last week or so...

Should i start a new character or does the averaging not matter since i've got 30 games behind me ?

gallagher118 It is up to you. If you start a new character, I would say that you would catch your old character in about 10 games. All games you submit at this point to your original character will only have about 1/3 of their value added to your total. With a new character you would get the whole shebang. I wuld say maybe alternate. Play enough with your original to keep it in the top ten, and create another to help the empire grow faster. It is about time I finish the game I started last week. I had been hit by an alien flu and have finally recovered. Bye for now TBAY

gallagher118 - I'm not sure if there is another level for divisions but I'm pretty sure that when you submit a game it totals your games and divids by 3. I think I'm going to play one more game with Major Tom and then go ahead and start a 3rd one. Again its boring at times but I think I've figured out how to get 100k+ on a game on gigantic maps. I'll know for sure on the next game. Anyway, if you are happy with your character then go ahead and keep playing it. I'll probably go back to using norad before long.

i just read somewhere else they break your score up something like this :
total games in each of last 30 days
each of these gets divided by square root of games played in that month
each of these then gets knocked down 10% for older months (cumalatively ?)
then add them up

I'll have to look around to find the post. Apparently thats how GC1 worked. So making a new guy may not be the way to go. Eventually someone who doesn't keep posting will fall off with this system.

Hey Norad, how many years do you target the game to go ? From what i've read if you play too long your score will go down. I've been getting better scores just by taking my time, where i used to try to crush the AI's as fast i could. Like you said though, it gets boring...

"Apparently thats how GC1 worked." I checked the GC1 website and found that I am still in the 12th place even though I haven't played a GC1 game in over a year. I think the system only updates the totals when you submit a new game. This is why the three or four players in the top 10 or 15 in GC2 are still there. They have not posted a game to these characters in months. The GC1 scoring system is much different than this one. I posted almost 2 hundred games to the GC1 metaverse and never saw it decrease when I posted a score. If I didn't play for a while and then posted a new game, it wouldn't increase by much as the older games were devalued. If you posted 1 or 2 games a week you would see a gradual climb up in total points, not the sudden positive and negative fluctuations you see now. Well thats all for now. I beleive that by morning we will be in 3rd place. Congratulations everyone. Have fun and keep up the good work. Bye for now. TBAY

well, my 2 better scoring games go 10+ years but I really think that population is the reason. The last game was 10 years, but I had 6T population. I experiemented on the game before and 2T at 5 years I only would have scored 65K. It may suppose to award you for faster games, but as long as you have 300+ planets still generating population it will outweigh ending the game early. Really makes no sense to seem to want people to sit and hit the turn button just to get a better score.

Thanks. Playing out a gigantic and am probably going to just end it soon. Been taking my time cleaning out each AI, but i'm not even sure how long the games gone for. (seems like forever, since the turns go so slow)

Curious if my score will be much better this time. My military and economy are rocking. Usually the society & economy scores are the highest. What kind of break downs are you getting ?

I had to pull up my end game:

Society: 57180
Tech: 36118
Econ: 90805
Military: 47022
End game: 1 May 2235 (game starts at 2225)

It does take forever.
