Solitair, You say there is nothing wrong with censorship as long as it I can censor too. There is something wrong with censoring if you censor because you don't like the idea. I understand moderating a board for offensive language or outright rudeness. But censorship because you don't like the political ideology, when the postings are to a political message board, is wrong. It is even dangerous. Paul, by you continuing to read thes

than I am. If you refer to Little Whip's post, Things You Should Know Before Voting, you will see Little Whip put up a composition (by another author) that states when we went to war in WWII that, "Germany had never attacked us." I countered that this was false and gave the specific example of the USS Rueben, sunk in Sep '41, with the loss of 115 lives. Someone told me I was wrong, that 100 people had lost their lives. I

Wow. That sends a cold, cold chill down my spine... Farewell and "mission accomplished" to the censors.

Why can I no longer post on the discussion Another Way to Look at Taxes? Can other people post to that thread? My last post was #37. It mentioned that Draginol should not ridicule poor mathematical skills in others and then in the very same thread make math errors himself. I checked about 15 minutes after I posted it and it was there, but no replies. That thread was deleted sometime this evenin

So don't preach to me about the benefits of a socialist system. I have seen the very real and painful downsides. The sad reality is, there are very real and painful downsides of any system of government. Just because you had a bad experience with a socialist system doesn't mean you might not have had a

ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!!!! This is the United States of America! Not the USSR, not Cuba, not North Korea, the USA. We are not parts of a machine without souls. We have thoughts and ideas. Unless of course, we are extreme leftists who believe the government should run our lives while we sit a

Sales Tax: 8% (varies from state to state) You can't add the 8% from sales tax to the 6% of state income tax and come up with 14%, Draginol. It's apples and oranges. Example: If you make 100K then you owe 6K to the state in income tax. Let's

You think attacking the terrorists environment decreased the chance of further terrorism? The Israelis have attacked Palestine over and over. Doesn't seem to be working. If you don't want to repeat history, learn from it. How is a terrorist group ever completely elimated? Not by destroying training camps. Not by attacking and holding/occupying land. You either catch 100% of the group and detain or eliminate them... Or you integrate them. If yo

I don't hate your view, but it's likely because I lived in Europe for years. One of the reasons I knew G.W. Bush would be awful diplomatically is he had never traveled outside the U.S. before getting elected. I know my travels have broadened my understanding of the world. Many Americans are too narrow-minded and ignorant to grasp how our actions are perceived by others. As the most powerful country in the world, we should walk very softly. It's ha

I have to say, Lobo, your figure is MUCH more accurate a reflection of my tax burden than Draginol's 42%. The reason, as you point out, is the important contribution of capital gains in lowering my tax burden. Draginol also included 8% in sales tax which makes no sense at all to me unless he spends every dollar that he makes every year. Some Americans do. What you didn't address, for people who are self employed, is the 15.3% on the first

Little Whip, Let's use Wal-Mart as an example of big business. A town has local stores which pay say $15 per hour. The town gives tax breaks to Wal-Mart to build a new store, but they don't give the same tax breaks to the local stores. Wal-Mart moves in and people choose to shop there because the prices are cheaper (partly due to labor costs, partly due to the tax incentives, partly due to economies of scale). The local stores go out of bu

I hear you, Gideon. It is terrible to be on welfare. I have never been there myself, but those I work with are. Just talked with a woman not five minutes ago who is on welfare. Last night her baby was taken from her because she didn't have formula. She meets with her caseworker later today to see if she can get her child back. Totalitarian is a spot on description. I would say I have seen the abuses secondhand. Please do not put words i

Gideon, The basic premise of your argument is that you feel people who believe in welfare should be the ones to provide it, not the government. Let's use your logic in other scenarios: 1) The people who run up the deficit (Republicans) should be the ones who then owe the money. 2) The people who think we need to be in Iraq should be the ones who go occupy it. 3) The people who think the wealthiest America

RATM4EVA, just because people vote for a law doesn't mean it is a good law. Prohibition? The thing I hate about the Patriot Act is the concept you can invade people's privacy if you have suspicion they will commit a crime. It used to be you could invade privacy if you had suspicion they had committed a crime. Slippery slope.
