I, too, would much appreciate a coupon, good sirs! If you have one to spare, an email to ostermei AT gmail DOT com would be most welcome. Thanks! EDIT: Got one!

It works in IE not in FireFox. With FireFox all you get now is the quote begin/end brackets. Doubly confirmed. Back home now on Firefox 1.5.0.1, and it doesn't work.
Yes, you do. It *used* to work like you described it, but then it just stopped. Still does, actually. I'd always been under the impression that it was broken, too, but I just tried it the way it's described above (highlight it, but DON'T copy it (as that'll un-highlight it)... just strictly highlight and leave it alone, then hit the Quote butt
Yes, you do. And as an added benefit, you extend the range of your ships, to boot. (At least, you extend their range in the direction of the mining starbase itself, not just further in general... All starbases, as far as I know, allow your ships to "re-supply," thus allowing them to go further away from your planets proper.)
It is always fun to show up and say 'give me x or your toast' when you are so much more powerful and they are being irritating. But... that's MY toast! I toasted it, I buttered it, it's MINE! You can't have it! (Sorry, I couldn't resist... of course you meant "give me x or you'r
I've also come across Sauron (Lord of the Rings, of course), and a couple that I read about a while back when the game was still in production, but had completely forgotten about until I came across them in my current (Large galaxy) game: Gabe and Tycho.
I mean just try my suggestion of giving the computer an empty planet then using a single transport to capture it thus gaining free tech (about 50% of the time) and you'll he'll order all the advanced building upgrades you might not have had. That too is very powerful, but it's so obviously abusing the computer's stupidity that it should be cons
You don't actually have to choose "decommission" - you can just build over it, and get charged for the difference in building values, I did not know that! Thanks for the tip... that's going to be quite handy indeed <img src="smiles/Smile.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmiddle"
Hrmm... The only other possibility I could think of is that perhaps they have a higher research potential than you (although they may have grossly underutilized it, as evidenced by your soundly out-teching them). IE: maybe they had tons of research labs on their planets, and/or a reasearch resource or two with starbases on 'em. You'd still be able to out-tech them in that sort of situation if they were focusing more on military or social, but perhaps the scoring t
You wish. I just finished totally wiping the floor with the computer on Painful with out bothering to trade one peace of tech but what the computer would periodically pop up with. Let's see some Metaverse scores to back that up. Maybe it can be done as you say, but everyone else I've seen commenting on the boa
2. What do you do with planets that just have factories? Do you focus on research? Decomission one of the factories and buy/build a starport. (To decomission, select the building to get rid of, choose Decomission in the building list (it's listed just like all other structures you can build), then cl
That's BS, you don't need to exploit the AI like that to stay in the game. I persoanly never even open the diplomacy window because it's so damn easy to abuse the poor AI and I still have no trouble still beating down the computer. Someone's still playing on Beginner! <img src="smiles/Wink.gif" border=0 ALIGN="
Purely a guess, as I don't know how the scoring system works, but is it possible that you took a "scatter-gun" approach and researched a bunch of low-end techs, which gave you a higher total of techs researched, while the AI was more focused, ending up with fewer techs, but of higher quality?
Anyone here know a way to get around these exploits and win in a honorable, fair fashion? I'd suggest you check out the version 1.1 beta. I haven't grabbed it yet myself, so I can't speak from my own experience, but I know one of the biggest changes in it is the option to disable tech trading. Right now, as you ob
and basically I should bribe my neighbours into attacking others...but where do I get the funding for that? All those trading things don't come until a bit later I believe? That's where the tech trading comes into play. You buy a tech (or trade for one of yours) from the AI, then sell it off to every other A
I usually start off researching planetary improvement, xeno research, xeno industry and xeno economy. Then I go on with weaponry. I'd lose the planetary improvement tech, if I were you. You're gonna have a while before you fill up your existing planets and will need the PI to expand further... no sense wasting time
Try tech trading, as that's what the AI's doing. You don't have to take the cheesy route and buy credits, but you're only cheating yourself if you don't trade some techs. In my last game, I was going for a diplomatic victory (and got it on a small map with 6 opponents on Normal. I had plenty of diplomatic skill from the start through my chosen abilities, and used that to ge
Glad you're getting into it. I myself played a small bit of the first GC, but for one reason or another was never really able to get into it totally. I debated whether or not to pick up GC2, but my ideological support for online distribution and lack of DRM won out. Boy am I glad, too! GC2 rocks. Anyway, I'll stop prattling and see what I can do to answer your questions <b
