Leaving aside all my other issues with the game, I am absolutely stunned that no effort was made to improve election night in Political Machine 2008. When the first game initially came out, this was the most called for addition (besides more credible candidates) and yet nothing was done. How hard could it possibly have been to have the option to have election night results come in slower? Obviously the ideal would be for a 10-20 minute experience (that could be sped up if

Has anyone else experienced a problem with changing the campaign manager name after a reinstall? I recently installed the game on my Vista machine and I can't change my name from 'Pat Smith' or my game name from 'Campaign 2004'? Where is the campaign manager name even stored?
I recently installed Political Machine on my new computer for the first time. I am using Windows Vista now (previously XP) and although the game starts up, I've noticed a serious problem. I can't change either my game name when creating a new quick play game or my name for the purpose of tracking a high school. Its stuck on 'Campaign 2004' and 'Pat Smith'. Whenever I try to type anything, the little error ding just sounds over and over. What is the issue here?
I can't get the AI to use political capital on any difficulty level. The most they've spent in a campaign since I installed 1.02 is 10 and usually its 0.
The AI cheats. When the game first came out, I tried to lead a push to reduce or eliminate the cheating but apparently they decided to keep it in. Its a shame, because it makes playing on the higher levels pointless (its all about California at that point). But this is a bug. Sometimes the AI uses political capital and sometimes it doesn't. Lately I'm having trouble getting it to use it, but I did run a campaign against Vilsack where he used it. Not we
I have encountered this bug repeatedly, usually in quick play campaigns versus John Edwards or Hillary Clinton. The AI will simply not use any political capital or will use a very small amount (3) and then stop using it for the duration of the campaign. This produces extremely lopsided outcomes and makes the game hard to play. I can provide savegames and screenshots if necessary.
I think Political Machine would trend Republican if you set all the awareness' to 100%. The Iraq war and War on Terror issues favor the Republican candidate and are almost always in the top 3 issues of each state. I will say that I think the real election's exit polls will bear out that Iraq and Terror are the two biggest issues, and whichever candidate wins those two issues will probably win the election. I like that Political Machine has that dynamic.
Try the free game first. The game is heavily pro-Kerry and is becoming more so even as the election trends Bush. Florida, North Carolina, and Virginia are all Democratic leaning in the latest build. South Dakota, Arizona, Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, Ohio, and Colorado are all tossups in the latest build. Wisconsin, West Virginia, Pennslyvania, and Michigan are all Super-Democratic in the latest build. None of those results are accurate. In the l
How does this thread warrant a sticky?
I've had it occur three times. Clark took himself in my campaign match against him. Hillary and Gore each took themselves in quick play v. challenging.
I like the illustrations better than real pictures. Try Power Politics 3 (but keep in mind there is no save game feature as of now) if you want a slightly more realistic game.
This bug is still occuring even in the latest build. The AI takes himself as VP. I've had it happen twice today. Once with Hillary and once with Al Gore.
That feature was taken out of the final release.
Great ideas. I think many are overreaching. I still think short term, they should focus on adding more candidates with the proper artwork and revamping election night. I would also sell my soul if they would cut down on the cheating by the upper level AI. How fun is it to win an election by getting 271 electoral votes but get killed in the popular vote, over and over. I don't know why they thought that was the way to increase difficulty.<b
Personal ratings count: Look at the massive difference between spending and political capital, but Vilsack had Jefferson as his running mate. This meant he had 10's in practically every personal rating category. I would have lost this race badly except for a smear merchant and spin doctor in California.
You need to have purchased the $30 version of the game from Stardock directly so you have the political operatives pack. The political operatives pack gives you the issue editor. It allows you to create whatever issues you want.
If you build a level 3 HQ, send your political operative to Alaska. Its a practically guaranteed 3 electoral votes. Although the AI on lower levels seems to build HQ's in Alaska far more often than it should. I guess10,000 a turn is 10,000 a turn, but it still seems a waste. This is one reason I'd like to see the Tough AI cheat less. The challenging AI is in love with wasting advertisements and HQ's on states like Maine, Idaho, and Alaska.
The election with the biggest fraud in history is not John Q. Adams v. Jackson, but the victory of Rutherford B. Hayes over Samual Tilden. Tilden won the election, but the Republicans declared that several states were "disputed" and a party line vote in the House settled the election in favor of Hayes. Democrats went along with this because of a promise by Hayes to end Reconstruction, which he did.
I didn't say they couldn't be beaten. I've beaten Clinton and one other tough opponent. I just think the cheating makes playing the quick play and non-campaign game pointless. I've also found it makes winning the popular vote too difficult (not that its worth much to win the popular vote). I'd just like to see the cheating toned down, while keeping the tactical elements of the tough AI intact. If the challenging AI was as g
To clear this up: Carter was beating me because custom candidates were having many traits set to 0. Therefore, Carter was able to win virtually state by simply raising his awareness. My issue stances couldn't compensate. This bug was discovered and fixed by 1.01.
Jefferson wrote the declaration of independence. The Constitution was largely the work of Madison, Hamilton, Jay, and other Federalists, but with massive amounts of input from the Constitutional Convention. Jefferson was the leader of the anti-Federalist group at the constitution and many key omissions from the constitution (like the lack of judicial review being specified as a power of the Supreme Court) are due to his group. But th
They are, but against the upper level AI, don't sink all your money into them. If you fall behind early in the ad race, you will be destroyed, regardless of how much your HQ's earn over a 40 week campaign. I tried to defeat a tough AI opponent using a new strategy built around 4 Level 3 HQ's, but you have too little money to respond to the very early TV attacks the cheating AI levels throw at you.
The Democratic-Republicans or anti-federalists were NOT anti-constitution. The clash was over how to interpret the Constitution, but all of the Democratic Republicans supported it ( no one was calling for the Articles of Confederation to be revived). The DR's ultimately lost on every significant issue of interpretation, but at the time, they were the dominant party by far.
Does it seem right that Jefferson is a big-government, pro-Federalism Democrat when he was in fact an ardent states right advocate and an opponent of large federal government? Don't take these things seriously? The really loopy candidates like Washington and Jefferson are kind of a joke to even be in the game.
