Windows 10 x64; Fences 6.4.6 (current as of today) Recently I've been unable to rename / move items such as a shortcut that is within an unrolled fence, if there is an existing unfenced desktop item "behind" it. My rename or move operation instead works on the hidden desktop item, not on the fenced item. The only workaround is to drag that desktop item somewhere else (it usually ends up inside the fence) then re-try on the fenced item. Then drag the desktop item back

Replays have been broken forever and will probably be fixed in around the same time-frame. That includes not only what you see happening but even getting them to run beyond about 15 min. This problem has been raised many times over the years. What a shame, for such a dynamite feature. I play long solo matches and would love to review them.

That guide simply points out the "Snapshot" function! I know about that. My problem is that the snapshots taken did not include my links, so when they are restored on a new machine the fences are empty. All my links are apparently lost. Not happy with that.

No - OneDrive is installed but no account has been created. And AFAIK I never did use it. Unless Fences defaulted to using it (I do have an Office365 account) and I wouldn't have known...(?) I looked at the XML file in a browser - it doesn't have any links. To be more clear: I have the old C: drive available, which has AppData\Roaming\Stardock\Fences\Backups. And have transferred that folder to the new C:, and then installed Fences from the web.&nb

Similar to the linked post... I've reinstalled Windows 10 (Pro x64 v2004). I had daily snapshots enabled before the change. Now Fences finds those but when I "recover" one, many of my fences are empty. The only ones working are portals. And I have restarted several times. I also have an XML backup (created somehow) but there's no way to load that. [ I think apps like this should have an explicit manual "Save settings" and "Load settings", for us

I'm totally at a loss. All I find in this post, and on the ModDB site, are links to unit packs. Those don't have maps in them, and I don't see maps mentioned anywhere. He only has 4 posts on this forum, and they don't involve maps either. Can you please hand-hold a little more and steer me to the place? Thank you.

Thanks for these maps; I really wanted some new ones specifically for skirmish which is all I play. And for that, to survive against high-level AI, I need defensible chokepoints to turtle behind until I can build up enough to attack. Several of these fit the bill well. A couple notes, which may be particular to my system. Win 10; NVida GPU, Ashes v2.76.52940: 1) On all the DF maps I've tried, most bare resource nodes do not show as white dots in the zoo

Fences v3.09.11, Windows 10 Pro x64 latest updates. I created some folder portals on my desktop. They work OK but the process generated several phantom horizontal scrollbars that can't be deleted. These appear whenever Fences is enabled (i.e. always). From their position they seem to be artifacts of portal roll-ups. This never happened with regular fences; only with portals. See linked image. Links to those show up on Discord too. I posted this because it took well over a year for me to find out that 99% of what's going on is over there. The link for it is only partly visible on the Ashes start-up splash, and it's called "Chat" which I had no interest in (this is the official forum, right?). I would never have found it if someone hadn't told me specifically. Which torques me off since I was trying to participate.

It's just great to have someone so dedicated to improve this great game. I'm constantly amazed at your focus and level of detail. Thanks for everything. My request: get replays fixed. As a SP-only skirmish fan I highly value this feature since some battles take hours and I so often want to revisit how it all played out. (As part of that the Barrager and Oblivion turret images need work as they're now just yellow blotches.)

I'd suggest for the Help on Desktop Pages that you add the sentence on needing a fence to begin with. Especially since it's a frequently asked question. The user would expect the rules to apply to portals, since they seem to be just like fences. So maybe that's another place to add guidance - right at the top under "New icon placement and auto-organizing". I like the portals feature and use them wherever possible. That helps keep desktop (C:\) size down and mak

On Win 10 x64, GTX 1060 with latest Windows and graphic card updates. As recommended by all and practiced by none, I run as a standard user rather than Admin. That may explain the first problem. 1) When I right-click on the desktop, there is no option to enter "Fences Settings". I have to run the Fences app for that. 2) I can't get newly-created objects to automatically go into portals - only into regular fences. 3) [Ed
While the idea of the formation change sounded great and was positively received, as it turned out, it requires more than just moving a dread to the front.
Regarding formations: I had requested that medics would not form up in front of dreads, where they were simply annihilated. Having the small fighting units in front is a good idea and in fact that's what the Substrate does.

If the terrain permits spreading out, do so. This generally happens with lesser units in armies but doesn't seem to work for dreads Indeed it doesn't work with dreads. I had almost written in my previous post that they should simply behave like the brutes, which will fan out to both sides around their target. The fact that dreads are larger shouldn't matter in open terrain. LorenPechtel's analysis comes close to what I'm seeing whe

Thanks for the replies! I'll certainly try the target-beyond workaround. The Hyperion and Prometheus seem too smart for their own good. But not smart enough to back up while firing (I thought that was added... maybe only to Cronus?). And and not smart enough to aim first at Substrate "carving" turrets in a compound. In any case, if the player directs them to attack a specific unit, they should simply do that. Chase it down and blast it.

I play skirmish against the AI. Some of my replays have clouds of zombies. These appear to stream in and out of the enemy base around mid-game and will gather in my positions. They attack my passing units constantly, and sometimes those shoot back, but with no damage. The overall effect is to derail the replay, such that it no longer shows what really happened. It will end at the right time e.g. with the enemy Nexus destroyed, but with all my units somewhere el

I had a group of three Hyperions and a Prometheus against a single Overmind. The latter was probably 50% stronger than my units individually, but it killed them all. I couldn't get more than one dread at a time to target it. All small ships were gone, so the "target army" effect you described wouldn't explain it. And the Overmind could back up while firing. The PHC never do this (another defect)... This pulled out my only active dread
