Vridian, This attitude: "And because American people often (not always) tend to ignore non-American views (esp. European ones), which is really a shame that they do," is perhaps why so-called "well-meaning" Europeans are not received kindly. The almost universal disdain and condescension implied in the above attitude is, to put it mildly, off-putting. Now, I agree with you that a lot of people are apparently unable to tell the difference between socialism and communism, or is e

I'm sure I've seen purple stars with class 26+ planets. I don't recall seeing purple stars with only planets with quality 13-. ~SDC~
Looks like a lot of people blaming people who hold different politics for the evils of the world. I guess everyone can be right, then. ~SDC~
I usually eat two AI races in the early game in a tiny galaxy. I could get more, but I want to have someone around to play with later on. :) ~SDC~
If I recall correctly, the ships often renamed themselves. The Culture is great fun, and the ship names (or "fleet" names, for want of a better term - like the Interesting Times Gang) were the best. :) ~SDC~
I noticed it fairly early on, as the entire map would be revealed, and I'd send the Hero home...but about two turns later, it'd leave its course to pick up another anomaly that it didn't go after in previous turns. This happened often enought that it became rather clear to me that new anomalies were appearing. ~SDC~
Travis, that's the point I was aiming for. And, yeah, the whole Patriot Act and Sequel thing is just vile. ~SDC~
No, I meant that I thought at the time it was just AoE with magic. I've since realized I was wrong. :) ~SDC~
Nah, except for colleges, political correctness is pretty much extinct. It's not likely to kill anything, except maybe a sense of humor. Speaking of subduing freedoms, though, I have this pdf titled something like "Patriot Act 2." I think what drives people to want to control other people is having power, regardless of position on the political spectrum. (I think that was your point, though). ~SDC~
Actually, I'm more disturbed at the idea that "criticism of the government" = "not patriotic, so move yourself the Hell to Canada." ~SDC~
I've heard that, but haven't checked them out. I think I ignored them as "Age of Empires" iterations and never really looked into them. Silly assumptions. :-/ ~SDC~
Travis, thanks. I simply didn't want to make any assumptions, but your comments about welfare reminded me strongly of the libertarian line. (wasn't looking for an argument, tho, just context) ~SDC~
Right, I typed in "greyday.org" Just checked it, too. :) ~SDC~
Vorlin, if it helps, the terraforming tech doesn't really come into the game until the very late game. The terraforming projects are also *quite* expensive and time-consuming. On the other hand, with their cost, they make a good alternative to waste. :) ~SDC~
Andre, I thought it was older too a few weeks ago. Had to look it up. :) ~SDC~
Travis, are you libertarian? That's not a one-line snipe, by the way. Just asking to put your comments in better context for myself. ~SDC~
Range very well can *be* an issue, by the way. I had one game in which a single yellow star in one corner was simply out of range of all my colonies (range seemed weirdly short, so it may have been a fluke). I had to build a starbase in the same sector to get a colony ship there. This is more an exception than a rule, though. I would add as general advice: Don't worry about falling behind in the early game. If you play well, you *can* catch up before the midgame. Also, do *not* hesitate
I know. A sysadmin I know said that it expired a few days ago (maybe a bit over a week). Guess they forgot to pay their fees. Second link - click on that, then paste the stuff after "Link" into the browser, and you should see Google's archived version. ~SDC~
DblDamage: Wow, that negative treasury-with-other-civs-demanding tribute thing is popping up frequently lately. :-/ You're the third I've seen. (anyway, this is easy to test. Offer another Civ your entire treasury over, say, five or six turns. You will probably get a demand for some ungodly amount of BC despite being several hundred negative) ~SDC~
Travis, when you say "socialism" what do you mean? Try to maintain a distinction between "socialism," "communism," "socialist democracies," etc. Anyway, yeah, Verenti's comment about wanting extreme conservatives dead was, er, extreme. So, wanting people dead is okay, but disseminating information is evil. ~SDC~
Master of Magic is 1994, right? Magic: The Gathering is 1993. That said, I can't say whether the former draws on the latter, as I never played the former. ~SDC~
I have this problem about once in ten connections, when updating to check for a patch - sometimes it'll tell me my Drengin.net password is wrong (well, yeah, I don't have drengin yet). Anyway, what usually works for me is to exit and restart SDC. ~SDC~
James, I wouldn't worry too much about it. That is, anyone can make a mistake like that, and having someone else to look at it can't hurt - also, Hawaii's editor will make it easier to avoid those mistakes. I understand your feelings, though. ~SDC~
As a sort of related question, Do you think it'd be feasible to add functionality to add more minor civs? That is to say, add new names and descriptions to the possible pool from which to draw? ~SDC~
Altair is, of course, real, along with Vega and Deneb (forming the Triangle Wrath of Dog mentions). Not to be confused with "Antares." :) Wolf 359 is also a real star. http://www.solstation.com/stars/wolf359.htm Only 7.8 light years from Sol. ~SDC~
