"how do you make your own logo? I was going to try and find a pic...but i can't get it small enough" The GoneGolders logo is one is one of the graphics off the Gone Gold website (surprise surprise...). So we didn't make it ourselves, the GG artist did. As for getting the logo to the right size, there are lots of image editing programs that will let you do that. I used Adobe Photoshop (overkill, I know) because I had the icon handy. Just browse some shareware sites

I'm beginning to think "Brad" is actually a set of triplets that work in alternating 8-hour cycles... he appears almost superhuman around here. Either that, or the man likes his coffee. ;) - Ash

Just wanted to say that I really like your new logo. Much more stylish than the old one. Don't think it's going to help you escape the GoneGolders, though. We're coming for you, and you WILL be dethroned. Do you hear that? That is the sound of inevitability. :d - Ash

8 colonies at turn 40? Doesn't sound impossible. The uncommon good planets part doesn't prove they're cheating, it just means they got a lucky starting location. Assuming they lease each of those colony ships at a rate of 1 per turn (which is generously slow, once they have more than one colony they could lease more than one at once), that's sixteen turns to build them, another 24 to reach the planets in question (keep in mind, the AI already knows where all the good plane

Sheesh, Brad, he asked for suggestions, and all you do is lap up some more praise. Aren't you getting sick of all this praise by now? ;) Vorlin: in the Encyclopedia section of this site (link top-left) Brad/Frogboy has posted some gameplay examples that you might find worthwhile. Also, there's a shortcut to a Survivor Guide in your GalCiv start menu folder that has some basic tips. Beyond that, unless you ask something specific, it's hard to give you tips... :( - Ash

The "Galactic Cease-fire" UP resolution needs some teeth (say, a set duration... any civ that breaks it loses all trade routes or something (i.e. sanctions)). It was passed in my game, but the civ I was at war with resumed fighting about two turns later... Unless, of course, you're going for a contemporary United Nations vibe. In which case, it's perfect the way it is. :p - Ash

"Oh well, I'm off to amazon.com." You could also DL the game directly from Stardock, if you want. :) Of course, if you're on dialup I could see how downloading several hundred megabytes might be a mite unworkable... - Ash

There's a "Survival Guide" in your start menu that should help. Frogboy has posted some gameplay examples/AAR's in the Encyclopedia section of this site (link top-left), as well as several different writeups on some of the poorly documented gameplay features. Also, these forums are superb for asking questions and getting helpful explanations. The game itself isn't that complicated to play... and with all these resources at your disposal, figuring out the nuances really isn't too diffi

I should add... for planety quality, 15 or above are the only qualities worth having. Below that, the planets can't support enough people to be meaningful. Still, colonize below fifteen if you have the ability to raise the quality through social projects (soil enhancers, habitat improvements), or if you simply need to increase the range of your ships by having a colony in distant sectors. - Ash

"3. What does planet quality do? Do your pop grow faster? Is your production faster?" Determines the total number of people that can live happily on the planet (i.e. before overcrowding reduces morale), as well as how fast your population grows. It doesn't affect production directly. Some planets have specials that can increase production... you'll get one of those ethical questions when you settle the colony if that's the case. "4. What does population do? I assume it prod

I second the question about normal warships helping culture... really? That could be incredibly useful. Does the AI get incredibly pissed if I station an armada in their sector and don't do anything with it? To avoid a Cultural Defeat: don't get overwhelmed by their culture. Make sure you control at least 10% of the galaxy's sectors, and don't neglect cultural improvements on those planets. Take the culture-improving resources on the map, if only to keep the AI from getting them. P
