MoO3 already did the z-axis thing and it wasn't fun.
I would like to argue against "way more planets". In a smaller game, every colony matters and every ship matters and every tech matters. These are "interesting choices". I find that after a certain point (a dozen or so planets), i just don't care about them anymore. It doesn't matter if i have 20 or 2000 or 200000000. And if it doesn't matter, why am i still playing? Sadly, "more more more" seems to be the trend in 4X. If the economy and combat systems were intricate
The first thing that came to my mind was the infamous SimCity example... but I trust that Brad is sincere about this. But this leads to the question how you pay for such a cloud service? Will it be free (like multiplayer, that use the companies servers)? pay per game? pay per 'level' of cloud assistance? monthly subscription? Personally, I don't want to pay any extra for a single player game.
the develop
This sounds a lot like another revolutionary 4X game ... MOO3. That went down well!
It took a full 10 turns to build something that my regular fleets could do in one or two turns. It never made sense to build these things.
This was done because late game, social manufacturing effectively became research, which was not really ideal.
And with these changes, what is social manufacturing effectively becoming late game now?
#1 and #3 are more easily implemented--#1 is just XML changes and #3 sounds like adding more pirates.
#1 is mostly changing some ratios, yes, but also requires making those late-game colonizations more meaningful. They need to be worth your time. #3 is not about more pirates. It's about making military options meaningful in the first few turns. Maybe i can't colonize Tau Ceti just yet, but i can shoot yo
There are three ways to solve the "mindless colony rush": 1) Make most planets uninhabitable without improved colonization technology. This makes the initial colony rush short and sweet, then empires pivot to researching colonization techs to get otherwise uninhabitable worlds. This can spread the colonization phase well into the late game. It also makes the mid game more interesting because you have to balance continue
this is a top-notch bug report. *bump*
"Also the bar is like 85% to 90% in my favor and I still lose my 25 legions against their 7 legions." This can happen if you don't put all of the legions on 1 hex so they attack together. If you spread the legions out, they seem to attack separately for some reason. :/ This is a long standing bug since invasions were first introduced. If you click "auto-resolve", you lose even with overwhelming odds most of the time. If yo
Speaking for my fellow robots: we'll take what we can get, immersion or not. It's so hard for a robot to make it in today's galaxy.
I did not know planets had a 1.0 minimum. what is the max range for a planet to contribute pops to colony ships? thanks for the feedback.
i’m playing The Yor on v3.1. I built a colony ship but it cannot launch from the dock. I get an error message like “unreserved population is less than the minimum to launch colony ship.” However, the minimum is 1 pop and my dock is connected with two planets that have 1.5 and 2.0 units, respectively. I should be able to launch two more colony ships with 1 pop each. What gives? I have a save game if this is a bug.
I just fired up a game of v3.1 as the Yor. I need both durantium and Prometheon just to grow population now? Where am I supposed to get these in a galaxy with poor resources? Basically I can colonize 2 or 3 worlds and then that’s it. I’m stuck. I have no population growth and no means to get any. Am I missing something?
Looks like they either bought some mercenaries or were gifted some ships. You have Mercenaries installed? Check the market roster to see if they grabbed any.
+1 for Taslios suggestion.
The other thing you can do is just delete prefs.ini and disable cloud sync.
I've been able to build two or three import/export centers. I usually notice this after i capture a planet that already has one, usually a civ capital.
I frequently get a black screen at startup if my config file has been changed. Here is how i fix it: open in notepad: MyDocuments/Games/GC3Crusade/Prefs.ini (or similarly named file path) find line near the top: "resolution=1900x1000" (or similar) change resolution to: "-1 x -1" This makes the game reconfigure the graphics setup and i get my screen back. Sad that i have to do this every time i change the configuration or a new patch comes out, but at le
AI is not told to build population. (Not listed(GrowthUnique) in Governors.xml)
oh, really... that very unfortunate if you happen to be a robotic AI.
I've played through 3 games as the YOR on the 3.02 build. Long story short: Dependence on Promethion absolutely cripples robots. Please consider making "Build Population" require no special resources. The recent v3.x move to make 1.0 pop units the minimum for colony ships only makes the problem worse. Here's how it usually plays out: I start with 5 pops on my homeworld. I build 2-4 colony ships and try to grab what i can while the gettin's good
Fleet management screen still doesn’t work correctly when fleet contains a commander that increases logistics points. It displays increased logistics but refuses to let you make a fleet past the normal limit. We have to resort to moving the ships around individually on the map in a very specific order to take advantage of the logistics bonus. This has been a bug since 2.0 / Crusade was launched. on that note, it would also be nice if promoted commanders did not lose this bonus.
I just lost my second game in a week playing the 3.0.x series. It has been a refreshing difference from previous versions which basically let me win, even on godlike difficulty. This was also my biggest gripe against GalCiv2, where the AI never goes for the kill, but is just there to rough you up. On this most recent game, I seeded the galaxy with a random mix of races with a random mix of AI difficulties including some godlikes. The fun part is trying to guess which empires are the g
