Nice writeup, I like the format: solutions accompanying each problem; and dialog is better than a single opinion. The icing on top would be to get a response from the respective teams from Micrsoft. Much of all this comes down to trade-offs. However Microsoft customers and partners really need to get their issues heard/acknowledged by Microsoft -- you have to get into contact with a "human" on the otherside. Now write something similar for Stardock.

Does WindowBlinds 6 change the default behavior on Vista for maximizing windows? That is: is the option available to keep the taskbar and even the maximized window transparent? The default Vista behavior is that the taskbar and maxmized window become opaque -- I would prefer that the transparency remain or at least be configurable as to the level of transparency/opaqness. You did not say anything about BitLocker - remember the number reports of sensitive data that was compromised due to lost/stolen laptops? Bitlocker to the rescure. UncleRob you should try using it and you will find the answer to your question. It really depends on what your requirements are. However without desiring to do more, and to do it more efficiently, more safely, and with more fun and enjoyment makes it harder to see the value of upgrading. Zoomba did not give any reason as to why people would now wait until SP2 rather than use Vista with SP1. I think the comment is misleading in that it implies that SP1 does not address our top issues that we communicated to Microsoft. Eh, if SP1 fixes any upgrade/install blockers we may have had then, all is good now - install Vista and have fun. BTW: Service Packs are not Feature Packs.

If SP1 contains "stability improvements, a roll-up of previous patches, a bunch of security fixes" why would people wait for SP2 instead? BTW, you left out that SP1 contains a bunch of bug fixes for customer reported problems - why would these customers not want to install SP1 and wait for SP2?

Oh come on - that is just a screenshot - the difference between the 2 in usage is quite significant e.g. WB5 on XP does not achieve the blurring effect as Vista windows does. Further the Vista shell has many differences over XP. Even for someone who never knew about the mentioned Stardock products could tell the difference by just clicking the Start Menu and opening an Explorer window. Uhm, common now - the DRM stuff is to allow you to watch DRM protected content - please do tell how you will be able to watch DRM protected content on XP? Vista will simply be able to open locks that someone else has locked - if you do not like the locks then don't buy the locks. Yikes!
