My hope is that these game "platform wars" will produce some set of standard APIs - if for no other reason then to make it easy to "steal" games from one platform and make it exclusive to another one (I believe this is exactly what happened with a recent Steam game which is now on the Epic platform). If it is easy to make a game work on a new platform, multiple plaftorms are great. If not, then they're fragmenting the gaming landscape but do not necessarily increase competition.
I am sad to hear that desktop customization software no longer has the demand it used to have; it were the Windows 10/8 UI changes that made me discover the Object Desktop suite, and many programs in it remain among my must-haves on a Windows system. However, I can also see some of the problems; I'd love to use WindowBlinds, but it crashes a program I use daily, thus I was forced to uninstall it. Perhaps increasing compatibility further is very hard to do at this point, but if I'd hav
Thank you for the responses. I raised a ticket as requested (#VJI-673-49983). If I hold down CTRL while launching the game (but WindowBlinds is otherwise active), it still crashes. I am getting the impression though that this application was always excluded from the skinning process to begin with; I removed the explicit exclusion of the EXE file from the WindowsBlinds config (to check the difference between the CTRL and CTRL-less launch), and the title bar remains the normal Windows 1
I am not sure what resources are you referring to, but I did try reseting my skin to the system one, which means WindowBlinds should be barely doing anything, and yet the game still crashes upon startup. EDIT: Some more details I found: I tried running the game after using the "Unload Windowblinds" option from the system tray icon. The game still did not start; it needs to be said though that this option did not restore my desktop to the same state it has when skipping WindowB
After updating, I could no longer start "Street Fighter V", which is an Unreal Engine 4-based game. If I restart the computer and disable WindowBlinds with pressing CTRL during login, the game starts without issues, but as soon as WindowBlinds is running, even if it's still using the system skin, the problem appears. I added the executable to the exclusion list and the briefly appearing game window confirms that it is indeed excluded from skinning, but this does not change the outcome. I
Yeah, that's annoying, and it's not the first time they've done this "sign in, but we're not actually done yet" update strategy.
My all in one updated to the anniv. update and still has a black screen, had to uninstall WB. Got a screen. Installed WB 10.0.7 and went black again....back to safe mode, no WB.
That's odd, 10.0.7 works fine for me even though I experienced the same problem with the earlier version.
Because it's been working perfectly so far and the program itself does not seem to notify me unless I explicitly click the "Check for updates" button in the about menu. (The automatic update check is supposedly enabled but I never got any notifications from it.)
@ DaveRI Thanks, that's very good to know. @ STEVERENOMARKS When they released 10.0.3 they had no way of knowing this would happen. Another reason to keep WindowBlinds up-to-date at all times.
Just wanted to help anyone desperately searching for this: after installing the anniversary update, Windows only showed a black screen with a cursor after login. Even Ctrl+Alt+Del did not work, as that produced an error popup instead. Uninstalling WindowBlinds in Safe mode fixes this problem. I will now try the latest version, hopefully that will work as well. The only question I have is: can WindowBlinds be bypassed somehow during boot? Considering Microsoft's current upd
No, I'm currently running it in a VM with an 1280x1024 resolution. The "small" option still takes away around half of the screen area. EDIT: Here's a screenshot:
I like the adjustable size in the new version but, err... the "small" option isn't all that small on my monitor. XD How about a "tiny" option then?
First of all: Thank you so much for this. [e digicons]:D[/e] It's amazing how much friendlier the Metro application search becomes when it does not take over the entire screen. I agree that resizing the search view would be welcome. I am admittedly running in a VM on a lower resolution, but right now it still takes away around half of my screen. XD Another thing that occurred to me is to allow opening the application list on the left in its "zoomed out" state, where the p
