SO WHAT!!! I like my Novalith cannons. I've got a game that's been going for around 8 hrs against 9 AIs, and I've got almost max fleet research, credit income of ~30 net (after fleet tax, which is ~56/65% (it's the 2nd level), and I've got THREE NOVALITHS. I've already nuked the 'Adjun Imperials' home world FROM ACROSS THE STAR CLUSTER (I'm playing the Random Multistar huge map). The shells took SUPER LONG to get there, but get there they did. THREE shells, one of which was redundant. That's

LOL YOU LIT THAT THING ON FIRE!!! XD Coilguns could also be used in large-size rapid firing weapons; however a Railgun would also make an effective tank weapon system. One of the other key things is which will be more destructive in an accelerator weapon (I'll use the railgun for an example)- a 5x10mm slug, moving at ~20k m/s, or a 90x300mm slug, moving at only 3k m/s? Coilguns are also easier to adapt to an automatic firing mechanism than a railgun.

you HIPPIES!!!! THE NOVALITH IS ULTIMATE!!!! NUCLEAR DESTRUCTION FROM AFAR!!!! The only use I have for culture (spits at saying 'culture') is for countering the ANNOYING tendencies of the AI to spam it. PARTICULARLY Advent (spits at saying 'Advent'). The Advent (spits again) are a bunch of HIPPIE ELITISTS (spits again) THAT WILL FALL TO THE NUCLEAR DESTRUCTION OF NOVALITHS. A super-economy player is really just boosting their income to increase defense spending. T

didn't know that. I usually assume that people don't understand how certain things work, as they are rather obscure things. Railguns are far more common in peoples minds and oftentimes in science fiction than coilguns, when in fact a coilgun would be a SIGNIFICANTLY more practical infantry-portable weapon system. Could you post pics of your coilgun? I think it's awesome you built one; I probably couldn't because- A. not enough cash for parts; B. I live on a military base, and one that (m

valid points I think. This thread is certainly accomplishing what I made it to- getting feedback on things that both others and myself spotted that could be reworked. Also, as for Vasari structure-busters, these could be implemented in the 3rd expansion, as the 2nd is a diplomacy XPack.

but that would actually be neither a railgun or a coilgun. That would be SOMETHING ELSE ENTIRELY. While it might be a hybrid, it would be more of a linear accelerator cannon. Besides, the projectile might be warped and therefore innacurate/impotent due to the conductive acceleration from the rails and magnetic acceleration of the coils. Here's a sample firing cycle of a 3-stage coilgun. The # of stages in a coilgun is dictated by the # of coils. 1. A projectile is fed int

interesting to know the relationship between ion and plasma cannons. But do you mean same POWER SOURCE, or same WEAPON PLATFORM. You could easily put a coilgun and a railgun onto a tank, in the same mount but WITH DIFFERENT AMMUNITION AND POWER FEEDS. You just CANNOT COMBINE THEM INTO THE SAME WEAPON (I.E. A COILGUN WITH COILS&RAILS/RAILGUN WITH RAILS&COILS). That's because of the science behind it. You can check wikipedia for this. While it may not be the BEST site fo

TheRezonator: RAILGUNS ARE NOT MAGNETIC ACCELERATOR WEAPONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They use an ELECTRICAL CURRENT that goes from one rail, through the projectile, and into the other rail, completing a circuit, and propelling the slug downrange. As for an Ion Cannon, it is not a magnetic accelerator weapon either. Not sure how it DOES work, but IT ISN'T ELECTROMAGNETIC ACCELERATION. What you confused railguns with is actually COILGUNS. I rather like the idea of the 2nd, but instead you could have the existing civil orbitals have covert operations research, to allow production of 'spy scouts', which have NO INSIGNIA, TEAM COLORS, OR DEFINING MARKINGS. Basically, ambiguous ships. The only POSSIBLE problem is empire insignia when mousing over an object. I'm pretty sure that insignia is displayed when I mouse over enemy ships, and I KNOW it's displayed when I mouse over mine. Anyhow, that's my $0.02 reply.

well dresda, I read a lot of other threads similar to this. That, and I really don't particularly care to have a poll when other people will do so without any input from myself. soasertsus, I guess you do have a point. It's similar to the Warhammer 40k universe. In it there are 2 lost space marine legions, and 2 lost primarchs. A person once summed it up as 'we don't want to knw what happened to them, who they were, or anything, just that their lost'. I still think it would be nice if

no, he meant the TEC's Sova Missile Battery ability. Basically the Missile Battery the Sova spawns, and the Siege Cannon the Vasari Vulkoras Desolator can spawn, both spawn a frigate that has NO ENGINES AT ALL. That's all it is. While the Missile Battery and Siege Cannon do have a time to live (I think, will have to check), they probably have a longer TTL than the Replicate Forces ability.

that's what makes them so good. No goofy support abilities that need several ship types to work effectively, just straight up combat. That's why I like them. That, and the TEC's Argonev SB has an ability I like to call, 'THE BIG RED BUTTON OF DOOM'. Simply get both levels of it, and not even a lvl 10 cap ship of any class or race will survive. If I'm wrong and it does survive, then a couple of your caps can easily whipe the floor with it, cause it'll probably have around 100 hull and maybe so

IMPORTANT NOTE: In Entrenchment, STRIKECRAFT (I.E. FIGHTERS!!) CAN HAVE ABILITIES. How do I know this? Well, THE ADVENT HAS A NEW SC TYPE. THE HOMING MINE SQUADRON. The squadron has an ability to deploy as mines. So, while the INDIVIDUAL fighters can't have abilities, the SQUADRON can.

N3rull, When I play Vasari, I usually get a migrator for colonizing. Instead of getting a space egg, I usually go with a Skirantra Carrier first. Also, the things with the Vasari structure buster is really making either something that is a more powerful, cruiser-sized Assailant or just buffing up the Assailant. As-is, it's just too weak. With the TEC, they should get something like a minelayer, as with the 3rd expansion, the way could have turned to the point where the

thanks for the info Thoumsin. Also, could you or any 7DS team members post a reply or start a new post on Particle Forge how-to? I haven't got the slightest idea how to create new particle effects.
