There is researching, in a sense. Researching in most RTS games upgrades your units. You can buy items to upgrade your demigod, and upgrade the fodder units (reinforcements) at your citadel.

Yup. I always wonder why sometimes they (companies) don't release demos... it would help immensely. There are people that refuse to pirate to try because it's "wrong", so they just end up never trying the game and thus not buying it. edit: "Many of them will not like the game, so the demo has a negative effect on sales." Yes, but some games NEVER get a demo.
