I'm a huge fan of random events, as well as other aspects of MOO2 such as space monsters Here's my list of random events I typed out a long time ago (go to top of page): https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/359619/page/2/#2331304 As a guy who only has time for singleplay, the small thing I want out of SOASE these days is
Honestly as long as the main AOE tools on these titans is as effective as it is, no frigate that their AoEs can hit will ever really be an effective counter.
True enough. I agree. The main problem involves the Titans themselves, not the problem with available counters. I was just thinking that the anti-structure cruisers should at least do more damage specifically to Titans than the available Heavy Combat Cruisers (Kodiaks, De
I like your weapon ideas, but they have to work both on shields and on hull... otherwise I see major balancing trouble.
I think you may be right. The idea of 1 killing shields, the other killing hull, may be new and interesting. But it would be hell to balance. Given your examples and hull/shield math, the only other option I could present would be to reverse the upgrade techs to their respective fa
I see your point, Bilun, and it's well said given the current status of the game. The thing is, if there is a will to make Ogrevs and especially Adjudicators somewhat useful in confronting Titans, then it could be done reasonably. For instance, I mentioned before that tech could be added to the game and thus researched for warheads specifically against Titans. It would take some minor programming changes, but it could be done. For instance, here's some examples. <
The Titans might also deserve a slight speed decrease, or a turning speed decrease. Actually, I like the matter. Due to their mass, it would take enormous energy for them to quickly alter course.
I'm an older player of SOASE and Entrenchment. Haven't played in a while. I recently bought Rebellion and played several SP games. All the new features are pretty cool. Don't have time for MP at the moment. The Titans are a great idea; they are needed. Mind you, the game may focus around them perhaps too much. No doubt, there will be more Titan tweaking as player feedback continues to roll in. I propose that the TEC Ogrovs and Advent A
I've seen some crap pulled by players at ICO. It would be fine if there were 100+ players online. You could just move on. But there's not so when players pull crap it really sucks. Solutions 1. Players should only have 2 accounts max. That's right... 2 because the smurfing is so ridiculous and spoiling the game, making people stop playing. Why so extreme? Because the ICO comm
I wish there were some sort of a separate area that new players could have the option of meeting at. What I have seen a lot of is new players being kicked out of 4v4 and 5v5 pug matches. I feel badly about it when I see it happen but at the same time, I can understand it. If they were allowed to play in some of those games the teams would end up being 4v5 or 3v4--they cause a large imbalance. When I h
I don't play that much due to time, boredom with the game, and the inability of other players to click the Surrender button. My one and only account is 5-6, but I've played about 30 games online (won over half). I still consider myself a beginner, though I know the basics pretty well. But what I don't like is all the smurfs There's awesome players like JJ who I played once in a team game. He logs in as JJ with all his wins so we know what we're getting into. I played him to le
I have a feeling the Diplomacy expansion is going to be well worth the wait. It's going to.... 1. flesh out the current, minimalist diplomacy system so we can get away from missions and grinding 2. fix at least some imbalances 3. possibly add some new research upgrades 4. add other stuff most people haven't thought about, and it's going to a pleasant surprise Covert activity? Random Events?
Entrenchment is great. Playing without it now sucks. I play both multi and single. If you're worried about the AIs problems with starbases, simply increase the difficulty level. Play some Unfair opponents. Play against teams of AIs. They will arrive with enough firepower to blow up your starbases easily; in fact, they'll pressure you long before you have your first SB. Your defenses and counter-offensives will be fun and desperate.
To make everyone happy, IC should update the SOASE homepage with a new visual. It should say ALLIANCES (my name for the 2nd expansion focusing on diplomacy). Even if we're not going to get right it away, it would still reignite interest, showing fans new and old that this game is still very much alive.
Multiplay is fun. Maybe I have enough background in playing other RTS games online that I was confident enough to put up some scrappy fights before losing my first games vs vets. Losing in the start is a given. (But beating other noobs was pleasing, and later on, beating more experienced players was awesome.) A few games later, you realize that no one was cheating. They're using some interesting tactics and resource management instead. You don't have to copy them, but it's wis
Thanks again Sirth. I really enjoy your contributions to the community which I also noted in the Diplomacy Expansion thread. Cheers
Right on, thanks. I've been playing and brainstorming ideas for strategy games since I was a kid. There's nothing cooler than adding on to an already good game, such as SOASE. Random Events are fundamental parts of old classic games like the Civilization and M
My experiences with multiplayer so far - 1. Vasari player 95% of the time, first cap is Egg (essential) 2. Advent 75%, first cap is mothership (somewhat essential) 3. Terran, 50% is Akkan (optional) Basically, as I mentioned in my earlier post, my emphasis is on the Akkan not being popular. A team of 3 colony ships (as you also build frigs) in the opening stages can do just fine as a colonizer substitute, if you'd rather get another first
Obviously there's going to be cool changes to diplomacy and I've made lots of suggestions already. But I'm going to suggest some miscellanous ideas here too, hoping some might be considered. Multiplayer Speeds We all know that normal speed for multiplayer is too slow. Fast speed can sometimes be too fast if there's a lot going on. It would be
Excellent topic, N3Rull, and I generally agree with your analaysis For starters, Wave Cannons should have 3 upgrade levels. Something like - Level 3, 5, and 8). The Egg and Enforcer (if I'm not mistaken) should not be the only ships to use Wave Cannons. Another ship, such as the Subverter maybe, would benefit from them. Pulse Cannon - same thing
Thanks, man. I'm adding 2 new ones to the main list right now
It's almost impossible to play a turn-based space empire game after playing SOASE
Add some sort of events.... I think I seen a post were someone suggested very good events.
Random Events ftw! Growing list of proposed events here: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/359619 But I'm sure the enhanced Diplomacy options alone will be good.
And I don't like the mutiny. Maybe have that only affect lvl 1 caps, but even then, I don't really like it...
Are you thinking how this would screw up multiplay again, if someone had Random turned on? [e digicons]:\[/e] Like I said, it would be a highly rare event . If you lose a cap, you go CRAP! If you get one, you go WOOT! The next dramatic step in a mutiny would be to safely steer
I'll add these to my list later Corruption A ruling council on one of our planets is riddled with corruption. Tax revenues are being embezzled. Allegiance is suffering. Send in some ships and maybe build a starbase in orbit to reassert power. Xeno In
A great idea and a great list. Random events is something I've been requesting since they started talking about the first expansion. Let's hope we see more love for the single player gamers (majority) such as additions such as this as an OPTION....
You know it. And thanks!
I guess they aren't bad ideas as long as they are options. Ca
Guys, if you wouldn't like the OPTION to have this in place, then I assume you wouldn't click the OPTION to have it as you start up a game. No prob. Personally, I would play multi with the option off, and singleplay with it on. And if I was rolling with a multi crowd that liked a random element to spice things up -- like in poker -- I'd be fine with it too. Tailor-making a game totally helps with replayability, especially in a game that has a bigger feel to it compared to small tactic
