EL-DUDERINO
I would write them, but everytime I do I get promptly ignored. My reps are strict party line Dems, good old Alan Mollohan (1st District WV), Robert C Byrd (Mr. Pork himself, damn near everything in this state is named after him), and Jay Rockefeller.
The UAW also made damn good cars for some sixty years but they also helped build the middle class. Their big mistake was losing clout by divorcing AFL-CIO.
What does their past good deeds have to do with anything. No one is denying that unions played a critical role in this nations history by fighting for workers rights. The problem is that they are no longer concerned with protecting jobs, they have lost focus and are more concerned with getting a bunch of
If Obama wants real change via bipartisanship he'll have to resort to torture--oh, I forgot, that's illegal now.
How about he actually tries to get the Democratic leadership in congress to actually work WITH the republicans rather than thumbing their noses at them? Maybe that would acheive the bipartisanship he claims he wants. Many republicans agree that a stimulus package is needed, they just think that the current one available is a horrible idea with all
Furthermore, in light of the huge deficits on the federal level, it strikes me as hypocritical to hold states to balanced budgets.
You are correct here but your point is the reverse of where the hypocrisy lies. It is hypocritical for the states to be held to a balanced budget while the federal government is allowed to have huge deficits. The move shouldn't be to allow states to run deficits, that would be disaster, but to get the Federal Government to h
What exactly is your point? You mention three or four different issues that have absolutely no relevance to each other and then just stop. Please explain what your point is.
My stance on this issue comes down to when the troops are deployed and when they return home. A heterosexual is allowed to passionately kiss their significant other in both circumstances without any fear for their job, a homosexual on the other hand risks being discharged as a result if anyone in the chain of command sees what's going on. So basically I think the whole don't ask, don't tell policy needs to go away for that reason alone. Any other sexual harrassment issues
I should stay home and let you write this! Thanks for another very on the mark and clear statement of my point!
I do what I can when I can.
I wonder why some do not want to read or understand it. Why are they trying to turn the argument to something it is not? I can only think of one reason. They are ashamed of it as well, and instead of trying to defend the indefensible, they want to change the debate so they can defend the defensible. And in so do
I am sorry if learning about African-American's contributions to history offend you. But it is a part of American history. It is, at times, a dark chapter in our history. Does that make you uncomfortable?
I can't speak for JillUser but I can say that I am not offended by learning about African-American contributions to our history, it is an extremely important aspect of our history. What I do have a problem with is when it is emphasized rather than just made part
What is so wrong with saying a Black man is President? Why does that bother you so much?
Because it is racist. Identifying him as a BLACK man is racist. Obama is a "Man" NOT a "Black Man". Identifying him by his race is racist. Dr. King wished that we would reach a day when we would judge someone "not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character" but whenever Obama is identified as a "Black Man" they are doing the exact opposi
There's nothing wrong with just acknowledging someone's race it's not perpetrating anything, it's when that information is used to define them that it becomes racism. How are we to work on ending racism if we can't even acknowledge race?
But the media in particular has gone far beyond simply acknowledging that Obama is black. Yesterday it was uttered over and over again that Obama is a "Black Man" and he is now a "Black President" rather than Obama is a "Man" who
Everybody they work with knows they are gay, but because of the rule, they just aren't supposed to mention it to their commanders--basically, don't bring your sexuality to work... which is something we should all do anyway,
And if that's the case then shouldn't the penalty for your commander finding out about your sexuality be the same for both homosexuals and heterosexuals? Meaning if a commander sees one of his troops kissing their significant other the same pu
The fact that the media keep saying he's a "black man" the "first black president"? It is what it is, and it is what is always done.
This is where the racism is that Doc Guy is talking about. The constant harping on the fact that he is a "black man" or a "black president". Just because it is what has always been done doesn't make it right and doesn't make it any less racist. Just because they are referring to him as a "black man" in a positive light do
Military law is even-handed....no kind of sexual misconduct is acceptable.
Military law isn't even handed in this case. A heterosexual living in the baracks is allowed to put up pictures of his girlfriend/wife and children but a homosexual is NOT allowed to put up pictures of his boyfriend unless he covers it up saying that it is a close relative or something like that. How is that fair or even-handed?
And for good reason. It's necessary given
Again if you disagree just ask a black guy if he's ever experienced judgment based on his skin color to see that this is still a reality for him.
Racism works both ways. Affirmative Action is legalized racism, just because it benefits a minority doesn't make it any less racist to treat one person different from another based on the color of their skin. Based on my admitedly limited knowledge of Dr. King I would think that he would have been completely again
There are openly gay people in the military right now, they just are not supposed to mention it to their commanders.
From what I have heard there are NO openly gay people in the military. There may be gay people in the military but if let anyone know that they are gay they put their careers on the line. If you ask me if someone can be openly heterosexual in the military then homosexuals should be allowed to be open as well.
If he does, expect
Our armed forces are going to get a new look....."Don't ask, Don't tell" is going to die...homosexuals will be invited to come out.
Just out of curiosity what is so wrong with this one? I understand the arguments for and against the other items you posted, whether I agree or disagree with you is a different matter, but this one I just don't get what is so wrong with getting rid of "Don't ask, Don't tell" and letting members of our military be open about themselv
Well said Doc.
I have no idea what any of you are talking about. Obama has promised to bring change and change he will bring. Obama will be the savior of our great nation. He will undo all the wrongs that have every been done in this nation. Obama is good, Obama is great, Obama can do no wrong. Obama, Obama, Obama.... Oh by the way pay no attention to the lunatic spouting off on how soylent green is made from people.....
well one of the problems is being fixed... that is if they stop moving it.... you know why we are switching the waves on TV? If not do a little reading up on why... this was one of the problems with katrena.
And this is why I really hope the Republicans continue to be successful in defeating the repeated calls to delay the dtv switch over. They've done it once but the Dems have promised to bring the bill back up again.
Its up to the states... you start letting the Feds do what they see fit.... its a slippery slop
Don't get me wrong, I understand that. But when Bush, or anyone in the administration, turned on the TV after Katrina and saw the situation there they should have initiated phone calls to the state and offered help. If they couldn't get thru they should have found a way to communicate with the state. That being said the state should have asked for he
I am certainly no fan of Bush but history will be much kinder to him than the current media is. Afterall Ford was villified for pardoning Nixon when he did it, but today it is seen as an action that was necessary for the betterment of the nation. For one thing in 10-20 years the intelligence that Bush had access to during his administration will become declassified and that will shed lot of light on his decisions. Perhaps it will vindicate him, perhaps it will vilify him,
Beware of big brother, especially when he agress with your politics. It is that big brother that is out to gain more and more power because people happen to agree with them. Then all of the sudden they no longer care about anyones politics but their own.
you know I got bashed for voting for the third party this last election... and was told exactly what you said.... why would you do that you are just wasting your vote.... I was like wait a minute..... nether guy earned my vote and someone else did.... even knowing that there was a very very large possibility that my canadate was not going to win, I refuse to " soften" my views just so it could fit withen " the other 2's veiws and thinking"
At least there are still a few
It's not democracy's fault that voters are apathetic. What are you doing to shorten representation periods? Do you campaign against the incumbent regardless of who s/he is?
I don't blame democracy. I blame the politicians and the media for creating the myth that voting for someone who isn't the incumbent or in a major party is a waste of a vote. And I do what I can to attempt to get people to vote against incumbents, but all too often it is for naught.
