If you choose either laptop or desktop, I recommend avoiding anything with integrated intel "graphics" chips. Intel sucks in that department, not only are they severely deficient in comparison to their competitors, but the budget systems that come crippled with them are usually overpriced. Go with either nvidia or ati especially for the type of applications that you plan on running.

I've got three internal hard drives, 800GB (2x 400GB @ raid0) HD space for XP Pro and media files, and another 500gGB HD for vista ultimate and a backup of media files. I also have two externals one that's 500GB that serves as a backup for my media files incase my system were to crash, and another 200GB that I keep attached to my system all the time that serves as a constant backup until the files are emptied onto my 500GB External. Had a few in the beginning, but not after I used vlite to get rid of windows defender and UAC. Those two (dis)services were blocking my nforce raid drivers and labeling them as a "malicious program".
