Help with game stratagy in Dark Avatar GalCiv2 Forums

first off, thanks for reading. i'm new to the DA scene which basicly means that i tryed playing a game and got killed. the new planet types confuse me and make everything seem dificult. i'm also having troubles with money. if i tax too much i then dont get population growth which kills me cause i start to lose money. my basic stratagy was to build as many colony ships as possible and upgrade all my planets quickly. i also put production at 100%. thanks for your h
