Actually, the Drath tech tree was developed first and the game designers used the Drath tech tree for the Altarians. Nobody knows for certain, but it is believed (or at least suggested) that the Altarian tech tree be developed further. And its not just them, some races need more adjusting than others.

A few of my observations. Not too original, but they haven't been fixed. 1. I did see Terran Alliance max out on bulding space miners. 2. I continue to see minor races with Arcean techs. 3. Arcean continue to struggle against other races. 4. Creativity out of control. 5. Tech reseach is too fast.

Some of the races have unique weapon options such as neutron drivers and ions. I have been meaning to play around with these weapons to determine their benefit over similar techs (pulse cannons for neutron drivers and plasmas for ions). Was hoping someone already has the answer... So what is the benefit to these unique race weapon systems?
My one complaint here is that many races are basically forced to spend their ability points on the same things, which reduces uniqueness.
I agree with this issue. I find myself typically using my ability points in a similar manner (econ, research, creativity, etc). There is some variation, but I just have a hard time using many (half) of the abilities. They are weak. There was another thread that discussed the inability of the computer to use free points.

I'm going to go out on a limb here... but personally, I think the DA government system lacks dramatic impact on the game. It certainly has some interesting aspects with the senate and popular votes. But overall it seems to lack the impact on the game that I thought it would. I just don't mind playing with the imperial govt all game and not thinking twice. I don't feel the need to rush to the star democracy and federation techs. So... 1. As currently stands, I don't mind som
Is there any way to get the AI to use those points (instead of me choosing for them)? That's what we just said, NO there is not. You have to tell them what to use or they AI WILL NOT use them.
ok. I get it. I just thought there might have been a difference from having a saved race with 5 of 10 points used, and a default race with 0 of 10 points used. Thats why I asked.

Maybe I am missing something that you can help me with: After deleting all the custom races, I end up returning them to a state where they are "cleared" and have none of the 10 ability points used. Is there any way to get the AI to use those points (instead of me choosing for them)? I think they are back to default, but they all have unused points, and I just don't know if they are using the points or not.

Following up on Frogboy's comments: There is a straight 25% reduction across the board for purchases. So over the life of the loan, you will pay APPROX these values before and after the tech (scaled to 100). Note yhere are four types of purchase choices. Before: 100, 160, 185, 350 After: 75, 120, 140, 260

1. Arcean should have recruiting station like everyone else. 2. Korx should have custom economic buildings. The standard list of banking stuff just doesn't seem to do them justice. 3. Minor race steal techs can lead to tech jumping (hyperwarp, etc.) 4. I like creativity (thanks!). But it is now too powerful for a single point. 5. I don't understand the war profiting: is this described somewhere 6. When starting a new game, the initial message covers a portion of th

Instead of a capture ship smodule, I would rather see a very small chance of stealing a weapon or defense tech after combat. Maube make the chance really small and rare, and force it to steal the lowest tech possible (ie give you laser before giving you disruptors). Not sure if this already exists (since I don't pay attention to exploration)... does a survey unit set to explore (W) go and automatically search out anomolies (A) if any are available? Not needed in DA, but TA has anomoli

I also see the Arceans struggling more than the other races. It seems that they are slow to get weather control tech (and built) which I consider to be a crucial ability for their sucess. That might mean they need AI tweeking rather than actual balancing. It seems that most people agree on two general ethics issues: (1) Choices that determine ethics favors evil and (2) Benefits linked to your ethics favors evil. Of course there are a wide range of thoughts on how to resolve these is

What about implementing a race change option like what Paradox put in Europa Universalis? Basically you play the game and save it. When you reload the game, the game offers you the chance to play any of the races. Enables you to build up an empire, and then see if you can defeat it with a different race. Its also extremely helpful in better understanding the AI options for development since at any time you can reload and see what the AI has done (ships, techs, and improvements). Scoring wou

I have seen the Terran space miner spam issue also (but not always). They did start building fighters when I went to war (they declared war on me). But it was too little, too late. Had to restart the game since it felt too cheesy taking their territory. And just to toss this in, Spore ship spam with mach IV speed early in the game is extremely frustrating.

I like the partial auto upgrade idea, even if it was somewhat random. Maybe have two guidelines to assist in the predictability. (1) no units outside your sphere of influence can upgrade and (2) it takes the ships closest to your capital. I know this is well known bug... but please fix the tech tree jumping (warp drive, invulnerability fields) in the next update. Its killing some games for me. Love the Krynn. I find it too easy to shift any nation to evil and ge

I'm relatively new to the game and love it (!!!). I had played DA for about 1 month then jumped in and been been playing the TA beta. Obviously TA design decisions are based on the history and background story. I really don't have the time to go back through the other games/campaigns. So my question is... Is there any website that has the whole storyline so I can get up to speed? Thanks for your help.

I think that this would be great, but I am definately worried about players exploiting it. How about as a random event that enables the player selection. Just something to spice things up without getting overpowered.

I think I would use an auto production feature that keeps the production slider at the highest possible level (100%) unless it will result in you going negative (either weekly or total depending on people's preferences). I would also like to see the cost for improvements and cost for tehnology listed on the tech screen if you right click a tech.

Some thoughts/suggestions. Ssome already discussed in length elsewhere. 1. I would like to see the later Yor economy techs get more expensive. Seems to easy to fly through the full list. 2. I would like to see the 1st Iconian economy structure get auto upgraded to the second one. 3. Please clarify if unique techs are supposed to be traded/stolen or not. 4. Improve the good and neutral ethics 5. Update some of the traits (courage, range, etc) that are not used

I keep getting crashes when I go to the colony list screen and attempt to purchase a social improvement (usually diplomatic translators) by clicking on the improvement. Seems repeatable. Sorry I can't send the files (my home online access isn't working right now). Maybe someone else can confirm this bug? Thanks.

My thoughts: 1. I think there needs to be more restriction on race specific techs. Seems too exploitable. Maybe have the races value the techs at 3x their value. Another idea is that you can only trade for the chance to research the new tech, but still need to research it yourself. 2. I would like to be able to self-obsolete structures on the planet build list. I traded for Torian history and then was annoyed at all of the options available. 3. I agree that the build structu
