Sounds like you're developing pretty normally. 4-5 good city sites with a nice mix of resources are all you really need. Personally I'm finding the pacing of this game a bit too fast, going to try a game on epic pace tonight and see if that helps.

I believe his point is that it's not what people are saying, but how people are saying it. In general, I tend to agree that civility and good manners do go a long way. Especially when providing honest criticism of a game that I for one cetainly think has lots of room to grow and improve.

Sometimes you get large areas of desert or forested hills or whatnot with no resources around at all. In other words, large wastelands that aren't really worth a city except for some non-economic strategic reasons (e.g. teleport landing pads).

It's too sides of the same problem. The AIs are not getting distributed evenly on the maps so you end up with a lot of them getting bunched up on one side of the map. Also, I don't know what exactly I'm doing differently, but I've never had the AI become instantly aggressive, they seem to ignore me all game long unless I take the initiative and decide to gobble them up. From my perspective the AI is way too passive. Playing on hard currently (and it's not).
And for many players, that would make the game easy. I think the first priority should be making the game fun by fixing all the wonky game design choices. Those choices will also help balance the AI and make them seem a little less stupid. Edit: Also, if you don't fix these aspects of the game, the only way the AI can be competent is by abusing stuff itself. That's going to make things REALLY not fun for players wh

Great post, should be stickied. I think some of the effects aren't working as intended or have hidden effects. For example, according to my city info page Royalty is giving +100% prestige instead of +1 Prestige, which is insanely powerful. Also would be good to have more info about the faction traits too at some point. I was playing a game as Procipinee/Pariden and all my cities were getting +50% food. Couldn't figure out what was causing it but it has to be one of the so

To the OP, change your build order to build more defensive troops sooner and the AI will never attack you. They've left me alone while I pursue a mastery victory in every game I've played because I always make sure I have a sufficient deterent. It slows down your initial building construction slightly, but makes no long term difference. On the other hand, getting out enough troops and pioneers early on to get all the good resource spots and keep the AI out of your hair makes a huge difference

There should be some maintenance on summons in particular though. Buff spells are weak and don't really make any difference, but with summons you can have a whole army of decent strength early game as fast as your mana can regen. And with all the resources you are saving on army building you can expand your cities even faster.
Mtrixis, Sounds like the game is not fun for you either, primarily due to the unfun state of balance in this game. I will repeat this to make sure people are clear: The issue is not AI. It's the exploitable, inexplicably poor game design choices. Until every one of these issues is address, the game will not be fun (outside of the figuring stuff out/exploring options stage, which I'm still in, and is, admittedly, a little fun).
Guys, I was on the fence about buying the game, since I barely have time to play what I already own. However, Stardock has earned my loyalty with Sins, Demigod, Majesty 2, etc. When I saw how hard you guys are working to quickly release the patches, I decided to send my dollars your way. The game is installing now. Keep up the good work and realize that you are appreciated. Scott
</

The caravan thing seems like an exploit. The suburb strategy makes sense, but hardly seems worth it unless you get badly out-competed for the good spots with resources in the initial colonization phase. I rarely have trouble getting 4-5 good city spots with lots of resources unless I get a really boxed in starting location. 4-5 good cities locations is all you really need for a solid mid-game and can be enough for end game too I find depending which victory path you are going for.
Of course, the thing is, people keep talking about the graphical power of their systems... but that doesn't mean jack since I'm going to guess that a lot of the slow down is just from the game trying to 'think'. Ones graphics card can't do much to help that part unless Stardock is using something like CUDA and the equivalent for ATI. There are taxes in the game???? Which tech is that? I'm rolling in money just from gold mines combined with cities with gold multiplier buildings. Gold mines definitely don't need to give more than they already do. As for material or metal being too abundant, that's true until you get a start where you can't find them, and then you have to ration them. Certainly some resource balancing is needed. Something is off though about the economy, I can't quite put my finger on it. I t

I understand where the OP is coming from being more of a builder/researcher/turtler myself, but I honestly don't understand how you are getting ganged up on by the current AI. I've played several games now on normal and challenging difficulty and the AI always leaves me alone all game long. It's gotten to the point that it's quite boring and I wish the AI was more aggressive, not less. I want the AI to at least put a little pressure on me as I make my way to one of the mastery victories.

Teleport is a great spell, one of the only one's I use regularly. Last night I noticed that on the level 8 spell list there is a teleport group spell, or somthing to that affect. It suggested to me that the level 1 teleport spell was always intended to be caster only and is currently bugged.

Here my suggestions. I think this game is fun and decent out of the box (barring those stability issues some people are having), but there's still a lot of work to do before it's a great game and a classic of the genre. I'm still pretty optimistic and think it'll get there eventually. I can certainly see all the potential this new engine has to take us there. What I think need to be priorities: 1) A

I like a lot of your ideas for adventure tech. The only thing I disagree with is having locations spawn outside of your influence, because depending on how you set up the game (e.g. lots of AIs, cramped for space) the whole world is under someone's influence pretty quickly. At most this could be a toggle in game set-up for those who want the option.
