Absolutly correct about the agro mod and in Gal Civ 2 when you use the built in game editor that is one of the settings you can adjust from 1 - 100. I expect it will be in one of the future patches or expansions.
Good point. If you have a problem with the level of aggression in Galciv2, just edit the races or make you're own races that use the Torian AI or the Drath AI with basica

lol I'll take that as a compliment In reality though you have to build some type of force or else how are the other nations suppose to take you seriously? I almost always play as Humans in Galciv2 with the diplomatic advantages, thanks to those I always have a military strength in the middle but am able to power broker and use cunning to keep in the mix. Even if you prefer to turtle and build an empire you still need some ships orbitin

Well you need some muscle for diplomacy. Maybe get in the habit of building up a military to detour the other powers. I've played enough games of Galciv2 on Challenging to know that if I build a decent force and get an ally soon enough, I never really get into any major wars or conflicts. In fact I've never gotten a conquest victory in Galciv2, it's always been tech or mega-alliance. It also doesn't hurt to do some power brokering

Is this a joke post? Either way take the hit in pride and go down a difficulty level Funny it reminds me of when I fired up Master of Magic last week with an unofficial fan patch and while I was exploring monsters came and destroyed my city in turn 5. It then happened 3 times in a row, I could never get a decent start location. The funny thing was this didn't frustrate me, it actually made me chuckle that a game over a decade old

Here's what I remember in Galciv2 When if first came out, the units would take turns in their attacks. This lead players to build cargo ships with lots of weapons and attack first always allowing them to win (cargo ships only have 1 hp, but it didn't matter cause it would demolish the ship it was fighting so it never had a chance to shoot back) Now ships attack at the same time Then they needed to count every weapon indi
The majority of the crash bugs were on ATI hardware, yeah. Something in the ATI drivers and Elemental didn't play nice. Somewhat ironically my new computer has an ATI card after I had a lot of problems in 2009/2010 with other games and Nivida cards. Can't win.
I have a radeon card (5700) and Windows7-64 bit, no crashes for 6 hours (4pm-10pm) today

If you want your crashes fixed post here https://forums.elementalgame.com/forum/877 Provide the savegames if possible and debug data according to this post here https://forums.elementalgame.com/392578 Especially the crash report.

It sounds to me like an AI got glitched up in some kinda infinite loop or a memory leak. IF this is repeatable then post your savegame here https://forums.elementalgame.com/forum/877 You'll get a much quicker responce time there

The game should run on that system. Try running it window mode To do this from outside the game go to your documents file, then find the "My games folder" then go into the "Elemental" folder then find the file that is named pref.ini Open the file in notepad or wordpad (any text editor) Under the Video settings you should see DisplayWidth= DisplayHeight= Fullscreen= Set the Fullscreen to 0 so it reads F

A couple of questions. Did you buy the box version and are attempting to update it? If so then try to download the whole game from impusle instead. Also make sure that it successfully activated on your impusle account. Have you downloaded other games succesfully with Impusle? If No Could be a firewall issue or a bad install of Impusle, might even be a permission problem with windows (run as administrator or check your security setti
Quoting Buio1, reply 191 Quoting greywar, reply 187 I think it has little to do with the game or the fairness of this review. It has to do with their credibility. I didn't see them coming to the rescue when the Total War forums was filled with complaints about crashes, bugs and an unplayable game. No, they gave the game such superlatives I thought it was a joke when I read it and many other
Yeah, I'm not a fan of the sovereign behavior right now. I was worried about this the instant they talked about in-game 'avatars', as they have huge balance issues One possibility would be that death causes banishment + essence loss, instead of simply dropping a single point of essence and putting you in the nearest city (a piddly loss, even early game). Losing your sovereign for some turns (possibly increasing with each death) would disc
Quoting Bellack, reply 141 However in this day and age of PC gaming the masses will not forgive a 'botched' release. This is patently untrue. Some games with horrid releases go on to be massive successes, the most famous being WoW - their release was a real stinker, but the game was fun and addictive once they solved all the server issues and inital game-breaking

Yeah that's the thing about 4x games, you have 1 bad game or 1 bad game setup and you think the whole game sucks but after messing with map size and number of enemies you can find the sweet spot to suit your playing style. I would also like to point out to those who haven't opened up the difficulty XML that the AI on normal difficutly is only using 75% of it's intellegence. This is done I believe to simulate humans making mistakes. If you want the AI t

If you are a strategy nut and play more then 1 strategy game at time (not just civ4 or galciv2). Then I would suggest you get this now, it's pretty fun and any problems will be fixed in the future. THis is if you are an addict and tend to play multiple sessions in a row (nonstop) or if you are in a big Fantasy turnbased phase and can't get enough of MOM, AOW:SM, and HOMM3/5. If you are more casual, then I would suggest wait it out. Esp

I would like to remind people that Stardock didn't make Demigod or Sins of a solar empire. They published them. If you want to measure Stardock as a developer, you have to look at Galciv2.

I seems publications just like to gang up on the small developers.
OMG I was going to bring up the exact same game. It had no naval invasasions and the developers lied about it even going so far as saying it was in but once the community found out about it and bitched about it enough, it was finally pat

Ok 5 things you can try here. 1- Star the game with the windows resolution window open (right click my desktop and go to screen resolution, keep this open when launching the game). 2- Try alt tabbing out of the game and back into the game. 3- Go to documents in start menu, find "My games" then find the elemental folder. Delete the file "Prefs.ini" (the game will make a new one apon restart). 4- Run the game in a window (uncheck

Try this You could press the down arrow key in the top left corner of impusle and make sure "Show pre-release versions" is checked since the day 1 patch isn't officially out yet (will be after tonight). This could be the reason the game doesn't want to show up after the download is done since the patch available is technically a pre-release until the real patch later tonight. If that doesn't work then I would suggest uninstalling the game and installing it

Heads up I just got the game to run in 720p. Here's how for those who have the same problems I had. First start the game up and go into options then select "Custom resolution" and make sure the "use fullscreen" is unchecked/off Now go into user documents (documents from start menu if on windows7) Find the "My games" folder then find the Elemental folder in it, find the file "Prefs.ini" and open it with notepad or any

They don't have their online servers up but they should by the end of the week (maybe Thursday). If you dig around some of Frogboy's blogs he talks about the MP being pushed back due to the broken street date.

When I set my TV to anything but 720p or 1080p it will just use 720p or 1080p and scale the resolution within those sets (resulting in blurry text and graphics). It will also not use an HD color matrix if it's not running anything from 480p, 720p, or 1080p which means I play the game on 16-bit color instead of 32-bit unless I use a standard resolution. My HDTV is a Panasonic plasma from 2006, it doesn't really have good scaling options. As stated above
Excuse me but I can't read XML. Can someone put in plain english exactly how the difficulty changes the game and at what level the AI starts to cheat? Thanks.
Ok I checked out the file and here's the skinny. ON normal difficulty the AI is basically even however it's gimped in intellegence, it's only using 75% of it's computing power. On Challenging the AI gets 2x the starting funds and it's intellegence is unlock
