don't know what the heck I'm talking about, werewolf and Lantec, if not already obvious, I'm new to skinning and don't know what the heck I'm talking about either. I'm just posting my experience so OP might somehow benefit. In Task Manager/Processes five svchost.exe are listed, one LOCAL SERVICE, two SYSTEM, and two NETWORK SERVICE. With noth

I made sure Dell sent me all the disk needed for a format & reinstall regardless of the PC Restore function, which I wasn't familiar with at the time. I've reinstalled XP four times in the last three years for various reasons, but don't have the time to do it again because of my wife's college course. I've never done a repair before which seems like it might be an option. However, as I alluded to in #3, when I ran without WB for at least a week at t
When you hit shutdown, does the floppy and/or CD lights flash? I shutdown using the mouse, I hope that's what you meant, and everything was normal. There were no lights flashing from the optical drives and I don't have a floppy drive. Unless you have another way to go, I think I'll go without WB for

found it, yeah it's 5.01.006
All Dell here, including printer. I don't see anything that looks "un-wanted" in processes. Compared to most around here though, I'm far from being PC savvy. Oh yeah, HJT LOG looks like it did a few days ago.
Where do I find that? I thought I saw 5.01.006 once, but I don't remember where. I can't even get to this post through SDC. I see this in C:\Program Files\ Sardock\SDCentral\Installed -- [Installing] ----------------------------------------------------- Server: http://sdc1.stardock.com Server Dir: public Network Id: odnt Name: WindowBlinds 5 App Id: wb5 Installed: False

Thanks for your reply, yes, it was working fine prior to holding down ctrl and clicking the X. It was a paid version. I unloaded WB, removed it via Add/Remove in the control panel, rebooted, deleted the C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\WindowBlinds folders because I had added additional skins to WB from this site. Best I recall that's what the instructions in the help file said. They also said WB could do some pretty "funky"? things to a system if it was put back on, but wasn't remov
Thanks for your reply. "that's not the full system info report it should include the files listed with dates/times". I copy/pasted those system info lines from another post because I removed WB prior to posting. They are identical to those I remembered seeing in my WB config window from System Information. I meant what I typed, "but I don't think, "The best workaround I've found is to unload WindowBlinds 5 before shutting down, a small annoyance but, it solves the problem." (even for $19.95)
Ok, so I must have errored when I searched this site for, "svchost.exe Application Error", and found nothing, but I found more than 1 mention associated with WB through Google. I liked this app and would like to give it another shot, but I don't think, "The best workaround I've found is to unload WindowBlinds 5 before shutting down, a small annoyance but, it solves the problem." (even for $19.95) is an acceptable solution. I uninstalled WB according to the help file instructions, and I'd like
Daiwa, Sir Birchur, scorpio-logic, any else who might benefit, this is how I installed a zipped skin (using WinZip) just now. I d/ld GT3 OS (again, after deleting it from WB, just to do this) & saved it to My Documents. I selected open archive & displayed in WinZip's window was 54 Bitmap files & the WB icon (.wba) file. I selected Extract & I had a newly created userpix folder (containing the 54 Bitmap files & the WB icon .wba file). in My Document
scorpio-logic, copy/pasted, soon as I see something worthy of replacing GT3 OS or have to try it just to see how well it works, I'll do it. Probably a topic for another thread, but have you used GT3wb5 and was it really dark - affecting apps like Word & Opera which had been excluded from WB's skinning? Thanks, justforlooks
Daiwa & Sir Birchur, ok, this is it. When I renamed the .zip per your instructions & these, "After downloading a windowblind (.zip file) where do I put the zip file contents?", I dbl clicked it, & got, "this file doesn't appear to contain a uis file". I clicked ok - 0 happens. I renamed it back to a zip file, I Rt. clicked it & selected explore, a window opened up with the GT3wb5 WindowBlind icon & a userpix folder containing 55 bitmaps. I dbl clic
Sir Birchur, ok, I rt. click the the zip & rename it. I ignore the warning & dbl click it & I get the a "Missing skin data" window, "There appears to be no uis in this skin. Are you sure it is a WindowBlinds skin?" Before renaming it, when I rt. clicked it & selected explore, a window opened up with the GT3wb5 WindowBlind icon & a userpix folder containing 55 bitmaps. When I rt. click on the GT3wb5 WindowBlind icon there, properties, says, "Name GT
Daiwa, for the purpose of d/ld GT3wb5, I've lowered IE security settigs to Default Level. When I right click the GT3wb5.zip download button and select Save Target As, I.E.(during files transferring) covers that with a "Internet Explorer cannot download from_doPostBack("_dlLink,")", "No such interface supported", pop-up. Of course I can left click & d/ld the zip file. I guess I'm not getting the changing the file ext. route. You not saying to right
Daiwa, thanks for your knowledgeable, comprehensive answer. The scrollbar issue wasn't as big a deal as learning that its supposed to keep the skin's width. I think SkinStudio is a ways beyond my skin 'skills' at this point. I'm using GT3 OS, d/ld the zip, unzipped to \My Documents\Unzipped & found the WB "installer" icon for the skin & a newly created userpix sub-folder containing 49 bitmap files. I dbl clicked the installer, got a notification th
Typical noob question, but when I increase the width of my scroll bars, they go back to the minimum size of the skin. How do I keep them fat so I can easily grab them? And do I still have to change zip d/lds to .wba exts. or can I just unload them to My Docs\Unzipped folder and click on them and install what I want from there? Tried to unzip GT3OS into WB folder and found out that doesn't work. Thanks, just for those looks, man!
