I've been trying to learn the game and have been having fun while losing badly. However, since the last update, when I try to start a new game, it is missing opponents. I started two separate games on a small map with 5 AI opponents only to discover that there was only 1 AI in the game. I enabled cheats so I could start several games and reveal the map. Each time there was only 1 opponent. When I tried setting up medium maps with 10 opponents, they consistently started with only 4 AIs in game
I listened to an interview on the Explorminate podcast with Brad Wardell, who I think is the chief designer of the game. He made it clear he's adamantly against including tactical combat. He had some principled reason why he doesn't think it would work, though I no longer recall what it was. I'd like to see tactical combat as well, but it sounds
I don't know with any certainty why Stardock chose to go with Epic. I prefer the cleaner, easier interface of Steam myself, but I honestly don't understand why people get so worked up about this unimportant issue. Wanting to support a new game by a reliable developer in a franchise I love is far more important to me than the platform on which it's housed.
