Doreen: There are exceptions to everything. There are some young peoplr who are wiser than there age and some that are dumber than theres. I for one am glad that I don't act like I did when I was young. I wouldn't be here today. Its called maturing. Some do it young, some do it when they are older and some never mature. So as a majority you can catagorize mentality and age together.

I felt great at 30,40,50 and 50+, but when I passed 50 everything started to break down. All my injuries caught up to me. So watch out when you hit 50.

I have to agree with Frogboy to a point. The internet has given them the freedom to add a few years onto there age and has also enabled them to get guttermouthed. But I think it still boils down to how they are raised. The 30 somethings are to lax in there dicipline and to busy to care, so the kids are running around unsupervised. Just my thoughts.

Davad70 brought up a good point. If everyone is paying to become a member does that mean that everyone is equal. If so, why do you need someone rating someone else’s skins! If I pay my money to upload that should be good enough. Let the comments be the guide. I can almost feel the down fall of a good site. I would hate to see that happen. The only way for a citizen to have any idea of there ratings, is to set there preference to a 5. If there skins

I agree. There needs to be some sort of accountability in the rating system. You need to tie in a comment with the rating. This will probably cut down the pettyness or grudge rating.

jcg- The way I see it is that you have 4 classes. The top class is the ones who started first and have maintained a high standard of quality. They will get the downloads on name recognition. Then you have the journeymen who are striving for the top. Then comes the ones who have tried some skins and are just learning. Then you have the newbees. Still one has to do what one likes and let the downloaders decide if they like it. Remember, you have to please yourself.

Once you have learned the programs and coding, the mechanics are all the same for every skin. Its the sounds, animations, design and pictures that makes the difference. Some will like it and some will not. If you cater to the masses you will keep it simple. If you do it to your liking you set yourself up for whatever.

If you click on the top ten downloads and top skin suthors(Category's) you will find that it is dominated by about a dozen skinners most of the time. So I do not feel that the talent is being diluted. The skinners that produce so-so skins will not crack in to the elite until they improve. You generaly have to fail before you succed.

Brad: Debates are fine, but you need people of the same(or close to) mentality(there are exceptions). You cannot have a 40 year old debating a 10 year old. Todays generation is the now, me people. I see it everyday. They don't want to take the time to learn or work for something. They are mostly sheep following the leader. If you have to resort to swearing you generally do not have the smarts or the answers to whatever topic is being discussed. (I hate typing, I'd rather talk, plus you d

As I said on a previous thread, I check out the message boards to see if I would join that site. You can tell how mature the people are and how carring they are towards each other. Some people sacrifice integrity for the sake of succeding. Where as the people incharge here will exile someone for not meeting the moral or ethical standards that this site has. I would say that most of the people on this site are my age, so they have been around the block a few times. They have mature

jark, Yes I know the sites are integrated, but as the Olympics is over, you cannot upload to it. So my question was why is it still there? What are they going to do with it?

An open thought: If NeoWin is a skin site, why doesn't the legitimate skinners boycott all those site that approve of ripping(stealing). I would think that if they were left with a den of thieves that they might wise up and change(I hope).

When I went looking for a skin site the first thing I looked at was the message board. You can get the feel of the site(people) by reading the messages. The language and the content. Then the ease of navigating the site. Thats why I chose WC. This is a mature group of people(for the most part). Friendly and helpful. They don't put up with a lot of trash.

If I'am not mistaken, on another thread someone was rated with a poor rating. I said in the by-laws that you had to be a journeyman to rate, but was informed that an apprentice could rate. If that is the case then it could be anyboby. I think that the rating should be tied into the comment. If you don't comment then the rating would not be accepted. That would solve that problem. Also it should be put back to a journeyman level and above. Or you could do away with the ratings altogether.

Thank you davad70. That answers my question. I have looked at many skins that the author updates and states that that there was a problem and this will correct it. Thats why I asked the question after seeing the initial high rating.

Thank you for your reply Master Mormegil. I understand updating your skin with enhancements but if a third of your skin needs fixed because it doesn't work how does it rate so high. I can see it getting a higher rating after the problem is fixed but not before then. Thats my question.

19 Replies 5,416 Views

I have looked at hundreds of skins and I'am puzzled! Some skinners have high ratings (9or10) and then have to go back numerous times and update problems (fixes) to their skins. How could the rating be so high if it doesn't work properly?

19 Replies 5,416 Views

I have noticed that when you post a new skin (anything) that your skin name is added to the new additions list and your skin goes to the top of the catagory that it belongs to. Well when you update it, in addition to being added to the newest additions list it also puts your skin back on top of the catagory again. That is a big benifit. It keeps your skin alive. What if they were listed by inception date, no matter how many times it was updated. It would stay right where it originally was.

Thank you paxx. You left out the (old). Well in 7 more years when I can retire I'll be able to sit in front of this machine all day. That will be nice.
