All valid points. I agree the pirates need some adjustment for me to want to play with them on. They really aren't pirates but more like bounty hunters the way they are implemented into the game. I played several games with them and decided they are just a micromangagement nightmare and a distraction from the focus of the game. The last game I played with them off and had a MUCH more enjoyable game. I would definitely like to see a more fleshed out diplomacy system. Give us more options to

I am interested in picking up SoaSE but I would like to know if it is possible to win a game through economic, political, and cultural conditions or does the game just come down to the usual RTS extermination of your enemy? Also, how is the AI? As good as GalCiv?

Look at the titles you're on top of.... Star Wars, Lord of The Rings, Dungeons and Dragons, The Godfather... this is evidince that you have a quality game here and not just another big name. Good job guys How can you top this?!?!

Ok, I don't understand completely. The core designs are the prebuilt ships? They can't be upgraded past level 1 lasers, missles, etc.? I was at war with the Yor and they had missles level 2 and I immediately researched chaff only to find out I couldn't add them to my ships. It was frustrating and the documentation is sparse in several areas. So, I have to build a completely new ship design to add new technologies? I was hoping just to play the first game without having to build new ships just to

I have several weapon and defense technologies researched (i.e. up to level 4 lasers) but still can not add any new components to my existing ship classes. The upgrade option in the shipyard is greyed out and if I select the ship itself the only option available is to upgrade it to its current build. I've been trying to figure this out for 2 evenings now. Is there a tech I'm missing that I need to have to add components? Any help greatly appreciated.

Found another manual error. On page 35 the foreign policy screen is described. On page 36 the trade screen is explained. At the end of the trade screen description the manual adds several lines of information that should be under foreign policy. There may be more but I will make this the last post on the manual. In a game this complex there needs to be good documentation. So far it's the only complaint I have. A game this complex needs good documentation in the manual or in the game (think civil

Ok, I have looked on the shipyard screen and see the upgrade button but it's greyed out. I have only the starting level 1 laser weapon on my ships. I have some defense and weapon technologies researched or traded for from other civs. I.E. I have laser 3 tech which I traded for. How do I get my upgraded techs onto current ship designs?

I've been playing my first game and last night I wasn't able to land my troops on the homeworld of a civilization that declared war on me. I waited a turn thinking my ship didn't have enough move points to do it. The next turn I still wasn't able to but when I targeted the level 5 planet next to it I was able to land and take that one. Are homeworlds nat able to be invaded or does it take higher tech?

There IS an upgrade option - its in the Shipyard screen. Infact, they simplified the process of upgrading by putting a button that says "Upgrade" in the Shipyard screen once you select an old design to update. Thanks. I'll have to look into that tonight. I didn't see it in the shipyard. The only option I saw was clicking on the ships them

Not an in game bug but the PDF game manual contents are wrong. It says fleets are on page 39 and upgrading ships are on page 40 but are actually on pages 40 and 41 respectively. Not sure if there are other misprints since I just found these looking up some information.

3 days and I have yet to see it anywhere. I know it's out of Stardock's hands at this point but Brad's last update was it would be in stores by today. I have tried 2 cities. One in Delaware the other in Maryland. 2 Bestbuys, 2 Walmarts, 2 EB's, 4 Gamestops, I am going to try Circuit City in a few mins but I have a feeling what they'll say. I like purchasing for a cd and not a download + shipping to get one. I might have to do that this weekend if that's the only way. Will we still be eligible fo

I'll second that. Besides not having a random map generator this is the best turn based fantasy 4x game. But it somehow doesn't have the same appeal to me than MoM does. Strange that, really... AOW:SM has a random map generator. I believe AOW2 did as well. You are probably thinking of the first AOW game.
