My Opinion is people who constantly criticize are incapable of critically thinking but believe they are experts. If you're incapable of backing up your criticism with concrete evidence that supports your viewpoint then you have no business critiquing anyone. Twitter is a classic example of a place where you find trolls or people who criticize out of jealousy. If you attack Serena Williams on Twitter about the clothes she wears or the restaurants she frequents it's nothing mo

Same Problem here. I loved the sports themes from My Colors. My Colors has gone away. Now either due to User error or something else I'm unable to get the old skins I used to have and loved to use. And it's not worth the trouble or the time to do a step by step analysis of whats gone awry. I really think Stardock is missing the boat in skinning using sports themes. Everyone has a favorite college, pro sport team they are in love with and would use all the

Icons were the most creative part of the last GUI championships. It's a shame they aren't being included. I believe most consumers are interested in Window Blinds and Icons than in Dreamscapes. They're cool but after about 5 minutes I'm tired of them taking up resources.

Unable or don't want too. Big difference. Stardock is either going to commit resources to My Colors or My Colors will go away. Imagine the excitement that could be generated using NFL themes or MLB. It could be huge. I would imagine "cost saving measures" was why the "NBA" went away.

Unfortunately Redneck, weather was in all the widgets I loved that matched themes I love. I use rainlendar so I could give a hoot about clocks and calendars. (Rainlendar even has a MSN weather addon. Not nearly as cool as desktopX.) Take weather out of the widgets and I don't have a lot of use for them. Same for gadgets and themes. Weather is big for people putting stuff on their desktops. Weather is the top download for Yahoo widgets as well.

Initially all I wanted to hear was,"We screwed up. Our bad." Since then,I've heard a ton of excuses and deflecting. If you can't tell. I'm a customer. Love the products. Love the community. Love the matching weather widgets. Big disappointment to me that this had to happen. I don't like to hear from people whose work I've respected for some time now saying,"Not doing that" "That would be ugly" "To much work""If I have to do that,I'll just quit skinning" Things of that nature. It's as

Lantec. This isn't about perfection. This is about common sense. "We are a US company." And everything I've mentioned deals with US law. "Our policy is strictly enforced" Maybe so. But maybe your policy is not in compliance with the law. I see skinners crediting each other as it's a tight knit community. But I see little outside of that except with Stardock. This was the perfect example of what I call "Skinners law". We credit "Martin" for the script. But we fail to credit "The Weath

Zubaz,I understand that. The point is,what if those logo's and links were not on the widgets/themes? You're using someone else's property with THEIR EXPRESS permission. Anytime you use Superman,Harry Potter,Batman...you've got to have permission. These widgets were created and approved with absolutely no thought or credit given back to the feed owners. And to say,"It's out of our hands" is shirking responsibility. It doesn't give ME,the customer, any confidence that Wincustomize is paying

No Philly. ID is saying it's out of their hands. Now how is that possible when this is a Wincustomize web site? If you have no control of your web site, you'll never be in compliance with all the legalities of the world. This whole incident should open some eyes to whether people are compliant with the law or not. The skinsfactory got all bent out of shape on this web site over somebodies infringement. And He/She should be tight with the community.

ID,the weather Channel didn't suddenly change the rules of the game. They simply forced everyones hands who weren't complying. And Yes ID,you do imply that you're following legal restrictions. The author implies these widgets work as advertised. Wincustomize implies that these authors know what they're talking about. What Wincustomize should do is to apologize to all their subscribers for the inconvenience. Not attempt to back out avoiding all culpability. Throw them a bone of some sort s

ID,I'm not on some skinners website. Yes they are user generated. But they are user generated on Wincustomizes web site. I'm a customer. I've purchased a Wincustomize subscription. Thus all products on Wincustomizes web site come with an implied warranty regardless to who produces the product. Wincustomize has implied to the customer that all these products are in compliance with the law and work as described. ID,your logic hasn't served web sites very well in cases involving piracy.

I disagree that it's not in Wincustomize's hands. If you go to McDonalds and get a cold hamburger, whats going to happen? You'll get another one. Thats what Stardock has done in the past. Or a coupon. Or a discount. But you come away as a customer a little bit happier. I think that with all the work the skinners are forced to do or Wincustomize, the customer has been lost in all of this. The answers that I've read so far consist of the customer fixing the script or deleting the widget.

It will be impossible to explain this problem to all the people who visit wincustomize. If they're anything like me,they won't be reading the forums. They'll come here via links from places like Download.com. And the stuff won't work. They'll simply keep their Yahoo widgets or some other widget. It's unfortunate as these widgets are tied to virtually every cool theme in the gallery. There are screen shots every where with instructions to go here and down load thi

Putting a logo on a widget is basic common sense that everyone should have been aware of from Stardock,to widget creators to Wincustomize administration. The fact that it wasn't there while being on all Stardock products frankly shocked me. What I've been reading is counter to Zubaz's comment about entitlement. While creating really cool widgets and crediting Martin for the script, skinners weren't crediting the feed owners nor devleoping their own scripts. Thats not a

Advertising. Had this happened to me and all my MY COLORS themes I would have been hacked off. I went and checked to make sure all the weather widgets had the accuweather logo. And they do. Along with links to the college bookstores/ticket offices etc...From the Texas Longhorns to the Boston Celtics, everyone is getting their love. So If I understand you correctly Vad_M,everyone has to have an end user license to use these widgets? Or just the widge

Vad_M,as always you seem to be on top of things. For wincustomize customers this means what to those of us who are using widgets that violate the user licensing agreement and no longer work? Looks like widgets need a weather channel logo to be in compliance as well. And can't be sold to end users. On a side note Vad,stay in the Desktop X game. Your work is stellar. You have a lot of fans who don't post or comment.

And Stardock recoups the expense as they sell their products. I would much rather pay for a weather widget that works than a great looking widget that screws up my computer. I'm also a Wincustomize subscriber. I'm a customer as well. So it's important that the widgets work as advertised. Some people want to be bothered with trouble shooting this problem. My point was...NOT ME.

382 Replies 999,988 Views

Don't know anything about scripting, codes or the like. None of them work except the ones for the Stardock themes. Now why any free weather information service would give a hoot about a product they give out for free is beyond me. Solution would be to give credit to the information service from which the widget is getting the feed. Stardock does.

Bebi Bulma,I think the point is that this skin has been altered. Altering skins for your personal use is one thing. Altering skins and then showing them off to the world is another. And doing it on a Web site whose only purpose is for people to download skins and themes is unacceptable. I understand TheSkinsFactory concern here. It's unfortunate that because there is little recourse you believe it's acceptable.

One other thing that I failed to mention is the free marketing these themes provide for Stardock. A lot of people and I mean a lot, have never heard of stardock or windowblinds. Rabid fans, and there are a lot, don't know that it's possible to theme a computer to your favorite school much less the ease with which it can be done and the minimal cost. My colors accomplish's so much for both the schools, fans and stardock that it would be foolish for something like a Mascott being

I love My color themes. I think the college themes and the NBA themes are the best. Why doesn't Stardock push to to expand the number of college schools they carry as themes. They should at least be carrying all the major conferences and their schools. No Oklahoma Sooners? No USC or UCLA? I'm not much of a hockey fan and I don't know that we are much of an NHL nation. But we love our NFL and MLB. I'm surprised they can't get on board with those

I'm not feeling your take with Primary colors and Plastic Fantastic. I don't get a "Kiddy" feel from this skins coloring. I get a departure from the norm. Where a skin starts to fee "kiddy" too me is when "bells" and "whistles" grow exponentially as the artist constructs the skin. If Plastic Fantastic feels " kiddy " to you then I would imgaine so does the use of "<span style="color: #0
