Bush Trying to Sell Pork Sandwiches to Orthodox Jews

The reason the Bush policy in the Middle East is not working is that he is trying to push what is right for us in a part of the world with very different desires. The elections that Bush said would produce peace and stability is establishing in power what the people want but those elements are at odds with Western Objectives.

On the first trip abroad taken by Karen Hewes after Bush appointed her Ass Sec of Spin, she met with 500 young women in Saudi Arabia. These women tried to explain that what Bush was trying to sell, such as equality for women, was not what the people wanted. They explained their Islamic values were very different from western values. We have scene it in the elections in Iraq, Egypt and Lebanon to a lesser degree then in Palatine but the fatal flaw in the Bush policy is that peace in the Middle East will come from free elections. What is taking place is the people select leaders that mirror their thinking. As hard as it is for us to accept, many in the region view bin laden as a hero not the terrorist we see. That was clear in the demonstrations in Pakistan after the CIA killed about a dozen civilians in an attempt to kill the number two man to bin laden. We need to go back to square ONE for a strategy in the Islamic World!

There is no "fatal flaw" here, Gene, except in your thinking. The spread of democracy will lessen the probability and appeal of terrorism. There is little dispute that the status quo ante was hardly inhibiting it, although many like you conveniently forget for political reasons. Whatever potholes open up along the way (e.g., Hamas having to actually govern), the democracy road is better than the alternatives. Anything less than perfection is condemned as "flawed" by the I-want-my-MTV-and-I-want-it-now types like you.

In 1932, Hitler was elected by a democratic process just like the Palestinian election this week.

1. Hitler lost that election. He only received a 35% share of the vote. He was installed (appointed) within the Reichstag. So quit using Hitler as an example of people not knowing what is best for them.

Again you try and distort what I have said because it does not support King George.

How dare you?! I am not blind nor am I a vehement supporter of GWB. I am not distorting what you said, I am just carrying it out to its logical conclusion. If you do not allow Palestinians the vote, who else are you going to disenfranchise? Just 'cause you don't like the outcome, in your mind those who disagree with you should no longer be able to vote? Everyone who voted for GWB, then, should have their voting rights revoked.

I'm out. You are not worth my time. Spew all you like, chucklehead.

One last thing. You claim that all who oppose you start throwing labels and mean words at you. But you start it, COL. You start it by calling us followers of King George. You start it by throwing rhetoric and inflammatory comments and abuse around like confetti at a parade. You are not the victim here, COL. You are the instigator.

My point is that to risk the lives of our military to facilitate elections that choose governments that support terrorism is not a solution just another problem WE HELPED CREATE! How is that making us safer? How is that wining the war on terrorism? Answer IT IS NOT DOING EITHER! The elections we supported in Egypt and Lebanon have brought factions to power that oppose us. The election in Iraq has resulted in a majority that is another Islamic religious movement like Iran. The election of Hamas has not helped move us closer to stability. .
