Please Read this if your UI is black and painting slowly

If you have installed a pirate copy (AKA cracked) version of WindowBlinds 5, please be aware that the crack is faulty and WindowBlinds will cease to function correctly on your computer.

To fix this you just need to uninstall WB and if you wish install a purchased copy of WB, or the trial.

To uninstall, you can either wait for your computer to login, unload WB (either using wbconfig, display properties, or from a command prompt calling WBLOAD UNLOAD) and then uninstall WB.  Or you can boot into safe mode & uninstall WB from there.

Your computer has not been harmed in anyway.  Whoever made the crack did a poor job and patched out code that causes WindowBlinds to no longer be able to paint bitmaps (so title bars, borders, everything will be black).

As far as I am concerned I think having to renew your subscrpition every year sucks its just like Microsoft did to windows 3.1 95 and 98 users what will they do to the xp users in a couple years make them buy new os's I feel if you put a product out there and the person pays for it up front and is happy to use it dont make them pay for upgrades provide them maybe they will send more buyers Don't be so greedy for the buck it will come back to you if you treat it rite for the best if not it will bite you.Give and it shall be given to you pressed down and overflowing it will be given you, as the LORD spoke it 2,000 years ago

I think OD's model is quite reasonable, because it mixes the best parts of the classical subscription and purchasing models since the released products don't "time out". If you're satisfied with what you have, and you don't want any improvements (or don't feel we're doing enough) then you're under no obligation to renew until you change your mind.

Thus, there are ongoing incentives for us to keep developing the products, and people who are happy with what they have don't have to keep paying for it. Everyone wins.

That will depend on how clever the hacker was in inserting malware within the crack...and whether the time-bomb is sooner rather than later...

I dunno, I'm not entirely convinced that the crack is the only cause of this problem. I had this problem with the trial version for some skins.

how long?
did it work fine at all? how long?
when did it start acting up? how long has it been doing that?

maybe a file borked: open WB configuration, click system info on the left and copy/paste to here all the shows up (or start a different post with that info)

I've seen the "crack" in action in a computer (Celeron 2.0Ghz, 256Mb RAM, Radeon 9600 Pro, XP Professional SP2 v5.1.2600.rtm.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx) and any of the problems refered above occured!
When I tried the sofware on my machine (Pentium 2.0Ghz, 768Mb RAM, Radeon X700, XP Professional SP2 v5.1.2600.rtm.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx) all windows turned black and the sistem hangs too much to simply open a window!

what You write isn't really right, I have buy my WB Software correctly on Stardock's Sale-Site over the Link, they send to me with E-Mail, after I had pay.
The Problems with WB are such so as You wrote.
My Machine hangs up every time I try to load a Skin over WB, than it's all Black and I must kill machine to boot into safe Mode for unload WB.
WB does not work properly....
A whole day long I Install and uninstall WB, load down the Software new and new, but nothings happend better.
Or do You think they gave me a Crack?

i have a broken crack too, it hurts when i sit down and go to the toilet. it must have been that dodgy vindaloo i ate for dinner last night......ooooooh you mean the other cracks, sorry my bad. anyway for all the users of cracked copies, you dont pay..welll you pay eventually, in time lost on fixing broken systems so do yourselves a favour and fork out the 20 bucks for the legal copy. it's not exactly expensive and you do get a first class piece of "working" software that is a pleasure to use

Well I personaly find it idiotic to crack a reasonably priced software that you use everyday (such as Object desktop) and have the guts to ask for support at the official forum

BMW CHUBB was caught sharing files in warez sites. His account was exiled since then. Now he is trying demonstrate how good he is and doing all dirty things in his own site or warez sites.

Windowblinds cost me $20. That's cheap for how nice it makes my system look - the best money I've spent on system software. And wincustomize.com's community of people-who-share further enhances it's value. Come on people just buy it! Neil deserves his fair share of your purchase price. If you steal WindowBlinds you're stealing from him personally! It's not just a faceless corporation - he has to put food on his table and if he can't do that as a programmer then he'll have to find other work which means: no more WindowBlinds. In short: if you use it, buy it.
