Put up or Shut Up Murtha

By now most are aware of the John Murtha call for the immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq.  Murtha actually said (from his own website): http://www.house.gov/apps/list/press/pa12_murtha/statement_051117iraq.html

I believe we must begin discussions for an immediate re-deployment of U.S. forces from Iraq.

So in an accommodating fashion, the House decided to do just that, with resolution number 571: http://www.rules.house.gov/109/text/hres571/109hres571.pdf which merely re-iterates what Murtha said:

RESOLUTION
Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that the deployment of United States forces in Iraq be terminated immediately.

Resolved, That it is the sense of the House of Representatives that the deployment of United States forces in Iraq be terminated immediately.

Clear so far?  Murtha asked for, and the Republicans obliged.  The resolution went down to defeat 403-3.  Even Murtha would not vote for it!

But here comes the kicker!  Newsweek ran a story. In it they basically outline how Murtha was put up to this by Nancy Pelosi (before being hung out to dry), but then go on to state:

By a vote of 403-3, the House ultimately rejected a bowdlerized version of Murtha's resolution, which the GOP had crafted (without Murtha's permission) to sound as cravenly antiwar as possible. Seeing the obvious trap, virtually every Democrat, including Murtha, voted against it.

Bowdlerized?  It stated exactly what Murtha did! Cravenly Antiwar?  Maybe Murtha should have thought before he let Pelosi snooker him!  But that is what he said!

Obvious Trap?  So to the loons in the Mainstream Media, bowing into the demands of the democrats, is setting a trap?

It is clear that there is no longer any rational thought in the MSM!  It is clear from this story that the democrats were out maneuvered, and they are the ones crying fowl?

Perhaps the next time a member of the democrat party wants to make an irresponsible and inflammatory statement, they will think twice about it!  For while their mouthpieces in the MSM will attempt to spin it to show them in a good light, the Blogosphere will be ever vigilant and call both the democrats and the MSM to task.

And now it seems, so will the republicans in the House.  Were the Senate so fortified in the spine.

Well here is some hard facts. We are not able to control the terrorism in Iraq. Week after week we have more American troops killed. We can not maintain the current troop levels in Iraq for another year without sending our troops back for third and in some cases a fouth tour. Most Iraqis want us to leave.

As usual Col Klink, you cannot tell opinion from fact.  Again you have no facts, just youir stupid opinion.  YOur poop chute has a better one.

I showed you facts. I showed you that the GOP resolution was in fact(according to the dictionary), a bowdlerized version of Murtha's resolution.

No, you showed me where the GOP resolution was exactly the same!  Or are you really ESL?  English is a difficult language.  You should go for reading comprehension

What happened to this part:

"and the forces involved are to be redeployed at the earliest practicable
6) date.
7) Section 2. A quick-reaction U.S. force and an over-the-horizon presence of U.S. Marines
8) shall be deployed in the region.
9) Section 3. The United States of America shall pursue security and stability in Iraq
10) through diplomacy"

Kind of extraneous when you realize that the immediate withdrawal of troops would create a vacuum, that the so called quick strike force would be unable to handle.  The Key was the same.  The rest is just window dressing that has no substance in it.

The GOP will pressure Bush to reduce the troop levels prior to the 2006 Congressional elections. Wait and see!

Actually, the Iraqis are already setting a time table that will do that.  But I guess they are being run by the GOP as well.

There is simply no point in this. You really need help.

That's an opinion. I thought you wanted facts. And what do you mean by vacuum? Who has power in Iraq right now? The Shia clercs. If the American withdraw to Kuwait and Kurdistan, who will have power in Iraq, the Shia clerics and their militias. No difference then now. And they will put down the Sunni insurgenci with the Kurds in the north taking Kerkuk and Msul.

That is an opinion.  I never stated otherwise.  I did want facts, so far none have been offered.

Try again!  I did not say that.  I said that you were offering opinions.  You then gave me your opinions.  Guess what?  Not every week!  And guess what again?  the other 2 "facts" are just totally stupid!

I will concede Americans are dying.  That nugget was hidden in your message of propaganda!  So get off my LZ ath-hoole!

In his meager defense, I did say that all he was giving was an opinion.  So yes, byt extensions he could say that.  So I officially withdraw that one.  Americans have died.  Col Klink was not one of them!

Damn shame on that one.

Why don't all you supporters of the Bush Policy in Iraq go to Iraq and help Fight for their freedom!

LTG Odem was just on CNN and said he believes that our continued occupation of Iraq is enabling the Shiite Terrorists to move Iraq closer to another Iran. It that happens, the Bush policy will be a MAJOR blunder. That is just about the worst outcome and much worse then having Saddam in power.

And an immediate withdrawal of all troops from Iraq would be a better one? A lawless, chaotic vacuum would be left in the American withdrawal. What worse, more cowardly mistake could we make? And that is what Murtha's resolution would accomplish.

We made the mess, we need to clean it up. In other words, stay the course.

Someone has to fight the sleeze balls back at home while they try to undermine the troops.

Better only for those who have nothing better to do than to hate Bush.  Thatg way they can say he failed.

Yes, Bush has created a mess but there is not clear way to fix it. Our staying is not solving anything. The terrorism goes on the same or worse day after day. God help us if we leave behind another Iran!
