Black Democratic leaders: racially tinged attacks OK

Bigots come in all Colors

http://www.washtimes.com/metro/20051101-104932-4054r.htm

In what can only be described as the height of double speak and racism, Democrat black leaders say that pulling out the racism (note: not race) card is OK, if you do not believe as they do:

Black Democratic leaders in Maryland say that racially tinged attacks against Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele in his bid for the U.S. Senate are fair because he is a conservative Republican.

Does anyone other than me see this as the same excuse that the David Dukes give?  That somehow, now a distinguished politician is being smeared because of his race, and other blacks are cheering it?

What is the difference between what they are saying and what the Aryan Nation says?  Except the color of their skin? (and that is apparently up to debate as well).

I recently wrote an article that said that only liberals are allowed to be bigots and racists.  And along comes the Maryland Democrats to not only support my contention, but to add an exclamation point to it!

How many republicans have participated in the following:

Such attacks against the first black man to win a statewide election in Maryland include pelting him with Oreo cookies during a campaign appearance, calling him an "Uncle Tom" and depicting him as a black-faced minstrel on a liberal Web log.

We had a debate a while back on JU about who the party for civil rights was and who was stonewalling and filibustering against it.  It was the democrats that were the bigots 40 years ago, but as some liberals argued, all those bigots were supposed to have moved over to the republican party.  They forgot Sheets Byrd of course.

Well, this simple little article has laid bare the lies.  The bigots did not move over to the Republicans.  They are still nestled snug in their bugs over in the democrat party!

What a bunch of hypocritical, bigoted fools!  Party of Inclusion?  Only if you kowtow to the new Masters, the liberal elite.

No, Maryland.  Steele is not an Uncle Tom.  You are just looking in a mirror when you say that.

yup. cuz if it was published by moon in the times, it's very likely lies.

Lies?  I have not heard any of the black leaders quoted say they were quoted out of context (dont see how there can be any other context here) or mis-quoted.  And you call it lies when they are using the words of their own racists?

What next, you are going to march with the Aryan Nation since they support Sheehan as well?  Now I know why the Aryan Nation is on the left.  They find kindred spirits there.

So if I find something offensive, I can be a bigot too? Great logic!

Ok, you "quoted" me there, so show me where where I said it's ok to be a bigot?

I've read a few articles, blogs from black people and Apparently their point is that as one of the highest profile black politicians, he has an obligation to be bothered by stuff like the Governor attending a fund raiser at an all white club.

You see, that is bigoted as well. So you are saying, as well as those bigots, that Blacks must think a certain way. Or it is open season on them from racists and bigots! Great thinking! Got your whips ready to keep them darkies in line?

Yes, I believe from talking to black people that they feel they must think a certain way. That certain way is that they have to stand up when they see racism. Like I said, if no one stood up in the past they would have made no progress.

So let's forget the oreos, and just concentrate on the quotes, as I was trying to point out. So as long as they did not throw cookies, it is OK for them to be racists? Why are you even trying to defend the indefensible?

The "Oreo Incident" is what started the whole controversy.

Oh really? Like what? Like Civil Rights? You are calling that a 'pissant little thing'? Now I know why I can never be a liberal. I only have one face, and would never fit in.

I'm not the one you used the phrase "pissant little things", I was quoting Chaos Manager. Dr. Guy...your lack of reading comprehension is showing again.

So are you going to try and take him to task for that? I'm sure you won't.

you are going to march with the Aryan Nation

perhaps the governor of md will arrange for the an host his next fundraiser. aint that easy finding all-white clubs anymore...and they surely do meet his requirements.

I did not comment on the all white country clug because it is not an excuse for bigoted hatefilled racist rhetoric

no...you didn't mention it cuz you're smart enough to realize how badly it reflected on the republican candidates. that's plural because there are only explanations for an american governor using a whites-only facility to promote his campaign--he's a white supremacist or he's a moron--and because the lt governor's willing to pretend he don't know which is which.

I'm white, so I don't really care...but most black people would find it pretty offensive that he defended the Governor. Offensive enough to throw Oreo's?? That's not for me to say

Check out the bold part.  That might give you a clue.

Funny, this whole article is about racism, and none of the black leaders are standing up to it.

calling him an "Uncle Tom" and depicting him as a black-faced minstrel on a liberal Web log.

Black Democratic leaders in Maryland say that racially tinged attacks against Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele in his bid for the U.S. Senate are fair because he is a conservative Republican.

"There is a difference between pointing out the obvious and calling someone names," said a campaign spokesman for Kweisi Mfume,

State Sen. Lisa A. Gladden, a black Baltimore Democrat, said she does not expect her party to pull any punches, including racial jabs at Mr. Steele

In 2001, Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr. called Mr. Steele an "Uncle Tom,"

This week, the News Blog -- a liberal Web log run by Steve Gilliard, a black New Yorker -- removed a doctored photo of Mr. Steele that depicted him as a black-faced minstrel.

Simple Sambo wants to move to the big house." A caption beneath a photo of the lieutenant governor reads: "I's Simple Sambo and I's running for the Big House."

The "Oreo Incident" is what started the whole controversy.

Seems you cant see the forrest for the trees.  This is not about "an incident". This is about racial bigotry, and the left excusing it.

You used it in regards to why they should be (which is a very racist attitude) be united and of one opinion.  Your reading comprehension is severly lacking.

Why would a Republican cater to the democrats?

First, you dont know why I did not mention it.  Second, your pathetic and lame attempt to excuse overt and blatant racism does not advance any of your arguements.  You are still clinging to the thin thread of 2 wrongs making a right.

I seriously do think something is wrong with your reading comprehension. I neither said nor implied such a thing. I was using the phrase CM used to demonstrate that excluding non-whites is not a "piss ant little thing".

actually you should be asking why a republican would prefer to be catered by racists--he chose the venue didn't he?

Which is an attempt to justify their racism?  Excuse me, mature intelligent people can criticize the governor for doing it, and even Steele for not condemning it. Only racist bigots would then use it as an excuse for their racist rhetoric.  In the grand scheme of things, it is a piss ant little thing.  Steel never Endorsed it.  If you want to slam the governor for it, by all means do so.  But dont use racist rhetoric or you automatically lose your point.

Disclaimer: The you in the above paragraph is the royal you and does not apply to any JU user unless they fit the conditions of the paragraph.

No, the governor did.  Or has that been lost on you?  And you imply a fact not in evidence.

Can't we all just get along!?!

Yes we can.  And thank you for allowing me to offer this oliive branch.

kingbee, while we will never agree politically, and indeed we have had some hot words of late, when all is said and done, I do respect you and your beliefs.  I know they are heartfelt even if I do not agree with them.  I guess the heat comes when we try to convert each other, but I think you are sincere and a good person.  We will have some more heated exchanges, of that I am sure.  But let us do 2 things. Agree to disagree and work to solve what we both feel are the evils of society, no matter where they occur.  We will never agree on some things, but this one I think we can, as reasoning adults, agree that there are wrongs on both sides, and we do need to correct them all.

works for me. but does this working together to solve the evils of society involve capes and masks? i'm sure neither of us wants to play the burt ward role, so i'm suggesting we nominate elindelwolf--or whatever he's callin hisself this week--to fill that position permanently.

again we are back to only whites can be racists, how about exclusive blacks only clubs?> are they as racist as white clubs that exclude blacks?

let's assess the damage being done here. how many all black country clubs, yacht clubs, polo clubs, etc are there in the us?

you probably would have a difficult time joining one of the relatively few women's auxilliaries remaining from the days when men kept women outta such 'men only' fraternities as the elks, the moose and the 'he-men women haters' clubhouse'. (most of those still in existence appear to be associated with a. wwii-era military service such as waaf, etc. or b. with various religious sects.)

of course, there's also the dar (daughters of the american revolution) and the udc (united daughters of the confederacy), both of which provide flagrant (and living) proof female sexism isn't dead--it's just pretending it has a headache.
