Problem after updating to DesktopX 3.1 and IconX 1.10

Problem after updating to DesktopX 3.1 and IconX 1.10

Just updated to the newest versions of these products, and one problem occured..

I use both DesktopX and IconX, and now it won't finish loading a saved desktop (which
was saved when IconX also was running.. saved with the new version by the way,
and hasn't any objects in it yet)..
It says Loading desktop.. and that message stays forever it seems, until
I go ahead and start IconX manually that is, then everything seems normal..

Until logoff that is.. then an errordialog flashes for a second (don't have time to
read the message, but the icon is the red circle and a white X).. and IconX doesn't
start with the SmartStartup or any other way when I login again (it's quite visible,
since the icons aren't at the right place, and has standard behaviour)..

This doesn't happen when I don't use DesktopX, but start and run IconX standalone.. then
no errormessage flashes when I logout either.. and IconX starts properly on login again..

Does somebody have an idea on how to get rid of the errormessage on logout, and to start
IconX properly on login when DesktopX also should run..

I have tried to disable the RazerHid driver I had a problem with earlier to check if that
was the problem, but no dice..

Would like to know more about 'Smartstart' - how to activate it ?

Open StarDock Central - tools, settings, general - check Enable MCP SmartStartup

Thanks Sir Bichur for helping.

I have now found it, but it's already checked. Seems like I'll just have to live with it for now.

After doing clean installs of XP operating system on my Desktop and Laptop (not related to any Stardock issues - wanted to go with ZoneAlarm Pro and AVG instead of staying with Norton Internet Security), I reinstalled all the core programs of Object Desktop.

One of these programs was IconX (I believe it is listed as version 1.10.002). Anyway, it installed with the System Tray icon and Run at Startup options - as well as the About tab - in the IconX configuration panel. No need to create a shortcut in startup menu.

Perhaps an update, or uninstall > reboot > delete old IconX sub-directory > reinstall IconX using SDC will result in the newest version being installed and alleviate the issues.

Just a thought.

Tried that twice Corky 0. It made no difference.

As it's just the start up and not the general function I don't wanna mess too much.

Anything involving Icons at the moment seems shaky and I don't need IP to start getting huffy as a result of toying with something else.

I don't know why it should - but then again I don't really get the relationship between IconX and DesktopX anymore either.

CorkyO and AgedElfin, SmartStartup doesn't work for IconX when you also load DesktopX.. When you DO NOT load DX however, and has checked the "Run at startup" then it does what it is supposed to.. and starts before the desktop is shown, so there isn't any clutter when the desktop is displayed..
That is one of the problems.. see the main msg and $1..

The problem occurs if both DX and IX is loaded at the time of shutting down, just to be somewhat specific.. Not sure what Alberto meant in #4, but seems that it is one of the things which
should be in the next fix, if I read it correctly..

corky O..
1st run IconX - check run at startup
then run DTX - go in and check run at startup
the check the configure options on iconx again.

Hi again,

I got IconX to work and load-up correctly (showing all tabs/options) as suggested by unloading DesktopX - so that was a good tip. But with no combination could I make it hold true once DesktopX (client or builder) was reloaded. Went back to square one.

I still think the umbilical cord needs another whack.

Yup - gone again.

Looks like an error in saving settings before Windows shuts down as well, when both are set to run at startup via their config panels and loaded in memory at shutdown.

Worth a try anyway.

I'm sure they will fix it at some point.

Not for me either. I have resorted to just loading IconX with widgets and leaving DTX on the hard drive.

*Bump*

Still have the startup/missing tab/missing options problem with 1.10.007 and 3.10.042

Still not solved... This doesn't look good, Stardock can better spend my subscription fee to solving bugs then moving home.

I am so freakin' pissed off at Stardock and Microsoft garbage products, I purchased Windowblinds then I upgraded Object Desktop and through it I updated Windowblinds. I then had to reboot my system. After logging in I get only my wallpaper and nothing else. I waited 45 minutes for this piece of sh.. to finish loading. I have an HP zd8000 with a P4 HT 2.8Ghz and 2Gigs of RAM. What the f... is the problem with Stardock. It completely f..... up my system. Luckily I dual boot to SuSE Linux. I give up using Microsoft and all the f...... piece of sh.. software you f...... idiots write for it. Linux is stable and it's free, there is obviously something wrong when you pay so much money for an OS and it is completely unstable, not to mention you have to subscribe to all the internet security bull..... so MS runs ok. You people are all a bunch of idiots.

I've been using Stardock product for 2 yrs on an HP off the shelf cheap model with no problems so I don't think your issues are software related.

Thanks for your comments. Obviously it's not a hardware issue, since Linux boots up just fine. I work for a market leading storage vendor and am primarily working on data migrations, I've worked with every OS out there and have seen many various issues related to software and hardware. I guarantee you, this is a software issue, probably some type of volnurability in the OS.

So, after you upgraded and then updated WB, what version did you update to?
