Why do the new versions of IP crash on my computer?

I'm a little frustrated. The last 4 versions of IP to be released (we're now on 3.00a[b].003) have all crashed on my comp. I open up the program and it immediately crashes. I've ended up having to uncheck the "show pre-release versions", uninstall Icon Packager and then re-install the old 2.50h.087 version. Does anyone else have this problem and how can it be fixed? For the split second that the new betas are open, the changes in the program look SWEEET! I just want to be able to use it.

You are not alone.

I have the same problem. The message I get has to do with SDCZP.dll not existing. Anyone know where to get the file?

The file in question is part of Stardock Central, but I don't believe the new IP builds use it. At least, I can't seem to find it being used here when installing on fresh machines.

Reinstall SDC on top of itself from http://storage.stardock.com/files/sdcentral_setup.exe and see if that sorts things. Will check with the developer.

Mine was working fine until I upgraded from 2.99b[rc].002 to 3.00.088

Cafeend, what exactly is wrong?

When I start IP, it just flashes up on the screen, briefly shows the searchlight in the list, and then vanishes.

The same thing happens if I double-click on an .iptheme file in Explorer.

Cafeend, this is the same situation that has been happening to me for 4 betas in a row now. It shows for a split second and then closes . . . quite annoying, this is.

Are you using McAfee?

nope . . . I use Trend Micro, Zone Alarm & MS Anti-spyware

Just installed 3.00.089...mine works great. But, I have not touched any of the betas for a while. Maybe uninstall completely then reinstall fresh. The new changes are cool. Better icon previews, tabbed pages, and the annoying flickering when changing to a different skin is gone!

I just installed it after reading about all the problems because I was bored and damn....it works fine...now I gotta find something else to do.

i've downloaded the latest version of IP (3.00.089) and still have the same problem... Open IP ... Flashlight... IP closes. The only way I've managed to update icons is through the theme manager....

Any idea as to a proper fix coming soon?

Does anyone know a "Brian Harper" that works for Stardock?

reason being, is that I received an e-mail from him offering to help solve my problem. However, he stated that the problem lies in the fact that my "Themes" are causing Icon Packager to crash and to help me fix it, he asked me to zip all of my theme directory and send it to him. Being that I've never heard of Brian and I also experienced identity theft a month or so ago, I'm a little leery about this.

also, he claimed to be from Stardock

Brian, not a problem. Sorry for my hesitancy! . . . I'll get that stuff over to you ASAP.

IP (3.00.089) opens okay on my system (XP SP-2) but I do get an error when I try and delete an installed icon package. The error basically says that it cannot delete the package and to try and reinstall it again. So, for now, I simply delete the folder of the set I want to delete through Windows Explorer.

Brian - haven't got around to zipping my themes as requested... but I did experiment with removing some of the packages myself.

It seems the culpirt in my case was "Bluecurve" - removing this from the IconPackager/Themes directory has fixed the startup issue.

The package can be found here...

I tried downloading a fresh copy and re-installing, and the startup problem came right back

Brock, TheDude, MrDarkWolf - I would recommend either sending Brian the files he requested, or do what I did. Move all the folders from your IconPackager/Themes directory, then add them back one at a time, starting IP after each folder.
