Exactly What is a patriot

Exactly What is a patriot

Some views on this, with no tearing apart anyones definition

Let us see if the left and right can define what a patriot means to them.

Just state how you see it, what you would do for your country.

What you would never do for your country.

If drafted to the armed military would you go? or run away.

Please state your politicsal leaning, does not matter what party, just the direction you lean.

State your age and gender please.

I want to use any information I gather here for a thoughtfull article, all names shall be kept in my vault and will not be put out there with you opinions without your express permission.

I will post my stance on Patriots at a later day.

What would I do for my country?
My standard duties as a citizen... pay taxes, vote, follow the laws of the land... but also protest those laws when they are unreasonable, or question our leaders when I feel they are wrong. I do not think that being patriotic means going along blindly with those in power. I would also lend my talents to aid the US in defending itself from clear and present danger.

What would I not do for my country?
Kill. I will not kill another human being for my country. I will kill another human being in direct defense of other human beings, but I will not kill for the sake of a concept. I will also not break any laws or attempt to subvert laws (or the constitution) for the preceived "greater good" the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

If drafted, would I go?
Yes. While I may not agree with a given military action, it is my duty to serve if called on. However, due to my poor eyesight and objection to killing, I would not be able to in good conscience serve in combat. I would do my best to lend my talents to other areas of the military effort as best I could. Computers are an essential tool in modern combat not.

My political leaning
A bit left of the middle, but not by far. I have some definite liberal leanings and some definite conservative leanings... just a few more left than right

Which is better...
To be young, idealistic and full of hope for the future

or

Old, cynical, beaten down and have given up on the future

There is truth though to what you say LW... Life, either through valuble experiences or harsh realities forces you to change away from the idealistic view of the world when you're young to something more practical and rooted in the day-to-day. But I'm not entirely sure being older and wiser is always a better thing.

Being young and idealistic is a wonderfull thing, to aim to make the world a better place.. yes

I am um old but never have given up on the future, I still have hopes for things like peace and cures for dread diseases.

My politics changed not due to MY AGE but the total lack of direction of my old party.

Just state how you see it, what you would do for your country.

I would do all that is required of me or asked of me.

What you would never do for your country.

There is NOTHING I would not do for my country!

If drafted to the armed military would you go? or run away.

Have served once and would again if asked/ or was physically able.

Please state your politicsal leaning, does not matter what party, just the direction you lean.

Just state how you see it, what you would do for your country.

I have served in the Armed Forces (voluntarily), I pay my taxes, I vote, I obey the laws and I maintain a positive outlook. I refuse to be a part of any media-driven hysteria or panic or hate-campaigns. I believe in Australia's multicultural society and value the different cultural influences we have.

What you would never do for your country

I would never kill or allow myself to be killed for my country. I believe I am more useful alive and here than dead on foreign soil. But having said this, I understand the troops are only following orders and I would never denigrate their efforts.

If drafted to the armed military would you go? or run away.

Won't happen now as I'm too old. But I would not go nor would I run away. I would be willing to go to prison for my beliefs

Please state your politicsal leaning, does not matter what party, just the direction you lean.

I certainly dress to the left but I also lean on the fence at times.

state your age and gender please

Perhaps idealism comes into play, and us older, wiser, righties have given up dreaming and decided to deal with the realities of life and human nature...

psst--hey youngsters, many of us used to feel the same way, but guess what? We soon learned that socialism doesn't work.

Well that's very depressing now, isn't it? Cheer up - I'm sure if you asked nicely you could get some of those ultra-liberal right-wing policies applied at your nursing home of choice

Let us see if the left and right can define what a patriot means to them.

~To me Patriotism means that you believe your country is the greatest in the world. My wish would be that everyone, from every country would be a patriot.

~what you would do for your country.

~Kill or die for the right of others to not have to (even those who, for whatever reason, aren't willing to).

What you would never do for your country.

~Break my convenants with Our Heavenly Father. Break my Oath of Enlistment. Deny the pacifist their right to be so.

If drafted to the armed military would you go? or run away.

I can't be drafted, only recalled. ;~D

Please state your politicsal leaning, does not matter what party, just the direction you lean.

I don't sit on the right or left wing of the airplane, but I definitely sit on the right side of the fuselage. ;~D

Patriot, what does that mean?

A patriot is one that loves his country and the ideals it holds high, enough to fight / die for them should it the call come.

I am a Patriot. I believe in the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights; the laws and principles derived from them are all derivative constructs any 'Patriot' should defend with their last breath. Though the Constitution and Bill of Rights are right and pure, politicians have signed away what Lady Liberty and the Founding Fathers wished us to bestowed upon their predecessors. In short, I love America, but I do not love what she has made to become by perverts wishing to profit from her latest ill-gained ventures. I'll die for the principles and well intentioned laws, but today Lady Liberty is being made to prostitute herself for the spineless requests of corrupt old cronies wishing for a new orderly Empire befitting their ideals and not those of the Freedom Loving citizens of The United States of America.

The Founding Fathers loved dissent, enough to base a country upon. If a war was not just they would not chain citizens to government propoganda. The very first Amendment is the Freedom of Speech - not to be abridged by opportunistic politicians. The fourth amendment right; to not be infringed upon by a totalitarian government or police state should not be rendered moot by such nationalistic legislation as 'Patriot Act' or 'Alien and Sedition Act' should be regarded as TREASON against the people will be decimated by REAL PATRIOTS defending the Constitution from blasphemous individuals advancing their own agenadae.

The Patriots are the True Conservatives and the True Liberals and the True Anarchists and the True Freedom / Liberty - loving individuals who refuse to be held captive by manipulative emotes spouted by those who want us to die, to become complacent with todays rotten bought- and - paid - for cowards who supposedly represent us in the name of protecting us from ourselves and phantom outside threat(s).

Things happen. Nothing will ever secure us totally, but that is the beauty and thrill of freedom. Never Surrender these things.

George Bush, Fascists, Ashcroft, Warmongers - DON'T TREAD ON ME.
