Exactly What is a patriot

Some views on this, with no tearing apart anyones definition

Let us see if the left and right can define what a patriot means to them.

Just state how you see it, what you would do for your country.

What you would never do for your country.

If drafted to the armed military would you go? or run away.

Please state your politicsal leaning, does not matter what party, just the direction you lean.

State your age and gender please.

I want to use any information I gather here for a thoughtfull article, all names shall be kept in my vault and will not be put out there with you opinions without your express permission.

I will post my stance on Patriots at a later day.

Move out. It's already over-crowded, and I have better opportunities elsewhere.

What you would never do for your country.

Live there.

Won't happen. (They don't take amateurs).

Almost anything to attain social justice within my country (public service, activism, etc.).

What you would never do for your country.

I don't know if I can kill for my country.

If drafted to the armed military would you go? or run away.

Neither. I would stay in my country and refuse to join the military, and probably protest the war (unless it is legitemately self defence on Canadian soil, but the odds of that are very low).

Please state your politicsal leaning, does not matter what party, just the direction you lean.

Democratic socialist, with far left and libertarian social policies. Left wing of the NDP.

I see patriotism as standing firm for the liberties of myself and others, even and especially when their values differ from my own, as long as their values aren't reliant on using force against others to conform to their beliefs. I would die for the country and the values that the Constitution was meant to represent.

What you would never do for your country.

I would never kill for my country.

I would not go, but I would not run away. I believe the draft to be wrong, and would gladly sit in jail for the time prescribed to support my beliefs. It is the duty of one who chooses civil disobedience to be ready and willing to accept the consequence of such obedience. I believe those who run to be cowards.

Please state your politicsal leaning, does not matter what party, just the direction you lean.

Well, according to "The World's Smallest Political Quiz", I'm more Libertarian than Ayn Rand...lol

Abide by the laws, pay taxes, basically do what is required of me as a citizen to help keep the country running smoothly and a safely. I would also speak out and put appropriate actions behind those words when I felt that there was a problem in the country that needed to be addressed.

If more was asked of me, I would do it so long as it did not harm my family or go against my moral beliefs.

What you would never do for your country.

Eat rat innards? (kidding) I would not do something illegal to further a cause that I felt was important for the well-being of the country. Beyond that, I'm not sure.

If drafted to the armed military would you go? or run away.

I have considered joining the military at times, but have decided against it because I would not want to leave my children for a year or more at a time. I am the one constant in their lives, and I wouldn't willingly take that away.

If I were drafted, I would go and serve to the best of my ability.

Not much. I don't think America needs to get even more screwed up than it already is.

What you would never do for your country.

Invade someplace for no apparent or good reason{s}.

If drafted to the armed military would you go? or run away.

Probably not. A) I can't really fight and B) I have yet to agree with most of our most recent wars.

Please state your politicsal leaning, does not matter what party, just the direction you lean.

I'm a lefty, bordering on radical.

Interesting question. I can't imagine a circumstance where my life or death would ever threaten or save Australia, so I don't think I'd die for it. But I'll pay taxes, give to charity and try not to harm anyone. I'd also have a sense of humour, because that lies at the heart of being Australian.

What would you never do for your country?

Enter politics or performance art.

If drafted to the armed military would you go? or run away.

I think it's highly unlikely, but I would avoid the draft by working for whichever home department needs translators. It's a waste of my time and skills (whatever they are) to go and get slaughtered to hold a patch of desert, some godforsaken village or a hill. Leave warfare to the professionals I reckon.

Please state your politicsal leaning, does not matter what party, just the direction you lean.

Conservative (in the preserving Australia's traditional way of life way, not in the super-liberal version that seems to be the go these days), with a touch of welfare liberalism.
