The job of the President is to make policy decision that are in the best interest of this country regardless of poll numbers, opinions, etc.
You may not agree with them...but that is the reality of the position. If the position of the president decided along poll numbers and national or international opinion( a la Clinton) what you have in essence is a feel good commander in chief never willing to address hard decisions without worry if his poll numbers would slip.
Um, yeah. What you are neglecting to mention is those SAME polls showed basically the SAME thing before and during the election.
So, by your reasoning, the vast majority of Americans don't want Bush in office. They either A) were too stupid to use a voting machine or
Thought Kerry was an even bigger threat.
Either way, he was elected, the polls are meaningless, and while he is in office he is President and gets to make decisions without asking your permission. Maybe if you and the rest want to defeat his replacement, you oughtta get started finding someone worth a damn to run against him.
WHATEVER YOU DO, you most certainly shouldn't thwart the democratic process by denying his legitimacy and trying to undermine the confidence in a President that WON THE ELECTION, and won't be running again.
That's what so insipid about your posts, Col, they are totally wasted effort. They aren't going to taint the next person running like you probably think they will, and you simply cannot effect Bush's actions without undermining the very Democracy you pretend to care about.
| " the leader who does not reflect the basic wishes of the people whom he is leading cannot be effective for very long. George Bush is not leading this country where the majority of the people would like to go." |
Then why do they keep electing him, Col? Where are the riots in the streets? Face it, the people you speak for are LAZY, and really don't care enough to get up out of their chair to change anything. Everyone else you DON'T speak for, and I think it is the majority, polls or not, are fine with the way things are going.
I don't know how someone with a military background can have this kind of attitude toward governent. Once someone is in office, you don't try to undermine their efforts. Your chance to have things the way you wanted them was during the election.
When you got orders that you didn't agree with from a commanding officer you didn't like, did you do your best to sabotage them? Did those who agreed with you band together to undermine his efforts and stall the process? No, it would have been treasonous to do so. How is this different?
Let the man do his job, and save your efforts for the next election.
You DO see the pattern of misdirection here, don't you? I marvel at your patience.
Cheers,
Daiwa
| "You DO see the pattern of misdirection here, don't you? I marvel at your patience." |
Oh, sure, I see that, AND the double standard when polls go in the Presidents favor and Bush-haters poo-poo them. I do, though, think the Col is a smart guy, and I think he is shoveling the kind of propaganda that most Democrats swallow whole. Sadly, reality doesn't seem to be what they are interested in.
They simply don't want the last election to be over. Poor them...
Col. Gene: But the fact remains, HE WON.
So, should Democrats act as if the election never happened, work to undermine public confidence, sabotage every effort he makes? To me, it sounds like you are implying that unless the person you choose wins the election, you don't have to respect the authority. How would that work in the military?
"Oh, sure, it was a direct order, but the guy is a creep and I disagree with him."
Bush is the President, not some dictator that needs to be taken out of power by force. To undermine his efforts is to work against the authority of the Presidency.
I just don't see what you have to gain by this constant stream of tirades. No matter how well you do, he isn't going to lose the next election, because he can't run again. You can't stop him from doing anything, because he doesn't need your permission.
So, what's the point?
If you want to look back at "errors" in November, why not read up on what could have been an illegal vote certification in Milwaukee and Milwaukee county. I wonder how you anti Bush folks would feel if it turned out that laws were broken in favor of Prs. Bush?
The people who run the polls in the city of Milwaukee never completed or turned in the supporting documentation for the votes in Milwaukee. Milwaukee County then certified the vote. Without the supporting documentation, the vote should never have been certified.
But of course, those are facts, and I've never known you to let a little thing like facts come between you and a good anti Bush rant. ;~D

Damn, you righties didn't learn anything did ya? Much like your president. More than half of the country doesn't buy the BS.
The point of the matter is that as much as it kills some of my fellow dems to say it. dubya actually *WON* this time around. But by the slimmest of margins. He should remember that. But apparantly he is now alienating those who voted him back in.
Pardon the Schadenfreude (shameful joy) but those of you who voted him in and are now regretting it are getting what you deserve.
One last thing. Outside of Mod, i don't know of too many righties around here who haven't taken a cheap shot at bubba. And yet you all whine and cry about the lefties taking shots at dubya.
I've said it before, and i'll say it again...
Don't get off the bench if you can't handle a shot in the nuts once in a while!
Ted? "Brains??" BWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHHHH! That's too funny mannn!
How do you call a 3% difference in the final vote tally kickin someones a** Mod? Does that mean Al Gore kicked dubyas a**? in 2000? Damn, you righties didn't learn anything did ya? Much like your president. More than half of the country doesn't buy the BS. |
YOUR the one that didn't learn anything. "LESS" than half of the country. More than half and Kerry would be president. I don't call 5 million a "slim" margin. If you do then it's a good thing your not a math teacher. BTW we take shots at "bubba" because we think he deserves them!
You claim it is fortunate to have a president who used his own mind rather than listen to the people. Problem is the results that have been produced by Bush using his own mind are negative. His solutions have not worked. He is not balanced the budget. He has not created jobs necessary or created a level playing field for American industries. He has not dealt with the trade deficit or border security. He has not dealt with the energy crisis or proposed solutions to the funding issues of Social Security, Medicare and Medicade. So although he has ignored what the majority want and used his own ideas, they have not worked for the benefit vast majority of Americans. How is that good leadership?
I forgot that you righties have your own math. Here's the breakdown...
dubya's approval ratings have been measured anywhere from 49% to 43%. Lets median that out at 46% for the sake of fairness. That means that 54% of the country doesn't like the job he's doing. I can't imagine why that is? Can you?
Let's go over the list shall we?
1. Economy is still in the toilet
2. Osama is still on the loose.
3. 1400 + dead in Iraq...No end in sight. Insurgents still running amuck. "coalition of the willing" not so willing anymore. Bailing.
4. Personal liberties are evaporating
5. Federal government mucking up states rights (Schiavo) I thought states rights were a big issue with you folks?
6. Wholesale outsourcing of prime jobs to 3rd world countries
7. Unsecure borders
8. Massive shortfalls in military recruiting
9. Attempted dismantling of Social Security (pissing off the elderly in the process, who put him in the gig in the first place)
10.Patriot act being attacked by his own party
11.North Korea has long range nukes, no solution in sight.
12.Downward spiraling deficit
13.Having to hire pundits and fake reporters to lob soft questions at press briefings, and writing biased newspaper articles.
14.Skyrocketing oil prices
15.Repeated violations of confidentiality by the TSA followed by a coverup, still no effective screening process of cargo planes.
And you folks blindly follow dubya and spout the party line, and criticize anyone who disagrees with you and your "president"
I think the COL has a few valid beefs. And i also think history will reflect how big of a fraud your "president" truly is.
I can't help but wonder what else is going on that the press hasn't picked up on yet.
I just hope that some day these jingoistic idiots here will realize that the dubya dummy they support is not a republican, is not conservative, is not fiscally responsible, and is a criminal in every sense of the word. He's a lying, deceiving, stupid criminal, and the historians will not be very kind to him.

Yeah, all those things were spouted about before and during the election too. I guess the misdirection tactics aren't working. People don't believe all this exaggerated garbage.
Look at dabe's posts. That's the Democratic party in a nutshell. Oddly enough, I'm not worried about people that deranged ever being considered valid politically.
Let me tell you my objective. It is not to bitch about Bush but to point out the policies that need to be changed so we begin solving the many issues that impact our lives. Most of these issues like Social Security, Taxes. Medicare, Trade, Energy etc require Congressional action. What I am doing is showing that Congress needs to chage our policies since the Bush agenda is NOT WORKING! Most Americans agree and do not support Bush and his ideas. If the election were held today, he would not win.
And PLEASE don't bore me with how you don't hate Bush. I've known KKK members with more good things to say about Black people than you do about Bush.
I'm just glad I never had to serve as a 1st SGT or SGM in your command. I bet like most poor leaders who still manage to make rank, you micromanaged your units to death.
It's sad, you have accomplished so much in your life, yet you are still a loathsome, pathetic loser. Consider this my last posting to any of your articles. I doubt it will bother you that I'm not responding anymore, but your cancerous negative swill is no longer worth my time. You say the voters made an error in November. I say I made a time wasting error subjecting my mind to your moronic lunacy.
I have more respect for Michael Schaivo's turds than what you have made of your whole pathetic existence.
Good luck, good life.
You are free to believe whatever you want. However, it doesn't change the facts on the ground. Bush is President. The Republicans control congress. They're in the driver's seat.
Since I don't consider myself to be a Bush supporter, now that he is firmly in-charge I somewhat encourage him to "do his worst."
Go get 'em George! (I am looking forward to the reaction to his presidency.)
You are correct. If Congress passes laws that implement the policies Bush supports, the day will dawn when everyone will clearly see how badely they have impacted America and correcting the effects will be a lot more painful for all. That will be the results of George W. Bush as President.

This is only *your* opinion and obviously does not hold true for evryone.
I thout JU was about opinions? Is it just repub opinions that matter?
Brad,
The repubs may have control now, but with the current agenda it's going to make it real tough on whomever the repubs run in 2008. It's like he's doing free PR work for the dems.
Keep my blogs and take them out in 5 or 10 years and see who was correct! Borrow a copy of my book and compare what is said with reality. I have used the knowledge of many experts to develop the projections contained in Four More For George W.
