Exactly how will fleet combat work?

Exactly how will fleet combat work?

will it work in the tradional sense where your ships will fight together, so my 5 frigates might actually be able to destroy a dreadnaught or avatar? Another question is are there going to be specific commands available for fleet combat (i.e set which type of ships to go after first)?

One thing that i really disliked about GC1 was the absense of fighters, and the utter uselessness of early ships. It would be nice if there were small bombers or something that could do heavy damage to capital ships like avatars, but be vulnerable to my early ships such as corvettes.

Also there is no 0 cost ships. Satelites have no maintenance cost but they cost time and resources to be built. Actually, a corvette may be cheaper to get then satellite.

There isn't tactical combat in GalCiv 2 either.  So things like range of weapons and whethe rthey shoot front or back are meaningless.

el. IMO, this system allows a more fair exchange of fire, and extends the usefullness of older technology ships.

Looking forward to playtesting!

d of best ship on one side vs best ship on the other, small ships have an impact in the late game.

What about ships in orbit ? Will they be considered as a single fleet when attacked ?

I guess they will still have the orbit bonus too.

that planetary defenders would act like a GC1 stack if not fleeted, and as a GC2 fleet if they have been specifically fleeted (just like a stack/fleet anywhere else).

of Universe is great to reduce the need of fog busters

ke a lot of work to get an edge. But, GC is a TBS game, and that's what many players do in TBS games... work hard to get that edge.

probably have to wait for the beta to see how it really works out.

to be moving our ships in task forces of fleets? Several stacks as a cluster to overcome some fire-control limitations of logistics? Will it be possible to move an oversize stack in one square? Will players end up moving ships individually around fleets?

r range weapons from the rear. It also does a fine job with movement point and damage allocation.

mo - a ship can still go outside the radius and go into combat - but it will be like a one shot wonder - 1 series of attacks and then its rating is diminished.)

e all three of them totally generic.

About the supply radius : the concept is more or less already implemented in GC1. All ships must be close enough to one of your system or starbase.

most powerful ship is the ship that could destroy you fastest if you didn't defend. This requires some simulation:
A fleet should target capital ships, isolated ships sohould target AMMs.

rent attack and defense values in six different areas, but I think Stardock could come up with something.

ity and cannot defend the other ships as well.

careful that the formula for determining the defending ship doesn't get too complex. It will be needed many, many times.
