WindowBlinds 11.06 (021 - Windows 10 Edition) - 64 bit OS

Hello Folks, I am trying to understand why my favorite Windows Blind theme, Aero 11 by Simplex Designs is screwing up my "explorer" title bars on some applications. Open Shell's T-Clock gets hit the worse. I have about 7 themes I tired and none cause the shading or rounding of the buttons as Aero 11. I am not naive enough to know many of the "graphically" based programs aren't all trying to hit the same memory locations. Since Aero 11 is one of the few themes that really pushes transparency (why I love it), I have not been able to find a setting to clear up the title panel. Anyone have a similar experience? I did read somewhere (can't remember), Stardock and OpenShell could not co-exist in the same environment peacefully. Thanks for any thoughts. TJ.

To SimplexDesign, I started playing around with the resolution because 100% dpi at 1920x1080 was killing my eyesight. I set it back to 150% and wonder of all wonders. Except for things being bigger, your Aero11 theme remained without the previous distortion! Did you push down an upgrade? I don't know what happened, but I'm as happy as a pig in mud right now, but I'll see what happens after a couple of re-boots.

In the mean time, this from one of the "tech" guys I follow, interesting thoughts.

SimplexDesign, just thought I'd give you an update. At 150% dpi, it seems Win10 is not screwing around with your theme here. Just briefly a few times during start up the distortion would return then disappear. Since my installation is only a few months old, maybe someone is reading these forums and making some changes. The 150% dpi hold happened just after there were two huge Windows updates. Going between 100 and 150 (my recommended), no longer causes the menu look as in my first post. Getting Win10 to honor color settings (in the registry), is another story all together.

You Sir are worth your weight in "gold-pressed latinum!" Just about every week I read about folks struggling with the color settings which MS has decided to bury in the Windows 10 registry for all the novices to go into and possibly "brick" their computers because they don't know any better. I struggle for a while myself and was amazed how the OS would just ignore and sometimes reverse changes I had made "in the freaking registry!? Anyway, I did a deep exploration of Windows Blind and my favorite skin "Aero 11", by you my good man! I made the color changes I wanted effortlessly, and laughed and immediately felt sorry for all those poor souls out there that don't even know you exist. I NEED to donate to your cause. Maybe not your weight in "latinum", but something. Please let me know how to do that. I'm new to this realm also. LOL!

Peace, Mr.T

You can find the donation link on most of my recent uploads. Click read more on Aero11 description to expand to reveal the link. As for the messed up graphics, I know buttons and tabs are 100% broken on 150 or higher, but it might of been fixed in a more recent windowblinds update. I will have to install it and see.

Been a little busy playing my Nintendo Switch as I found love for the system again and dont have much time to sit and play due to how much stuff I have going on. Haha

A couple of links in your recent uploads say they don't exist when you click on them, just thought I'd let you know. :-)

I didn't experience that, LightStar. Tried the link on Aero 11 and Steam Powered.

I tried his Objectdock and Wallpaper from January 7th, latest ones he uploaded. The Windowblinds he uploaded from that day works though.

It looks like they did not recover properly from the website crash. The links added ) to the url for some reason.

Thanks SD, will check some of the "links." Did I tell you I hate Windows 10. LOL! Through your Aero 11, I was able to change the color of my Title Bar Text. I tired "Winareo Tweak" to change the font size...didn't work. Winaero was able to change the scroll bar size and I changed my icon spacing in the registry. Guess what, the next day, Windows 10 had its way with me and undid the changes. (ROFLMAO!) Re-did them and they seem to be holding. Now I'm trying to find a way to increase the font size of the Title Bar Text. Tried a few things, none seem to work. Guess MS is proving we don't really "own" the OS, only have a license to use. "EULA", for all the little folks in force. My poor Sister got caught in the HP Laptop snare. Because her laptop is so narrow, the battery is not field replaceable being soldered to the motherboard and requires a $700 around trip to be fixed, and HP is noted for having "shitty" cover hinges. Shame, I told her to buy what NASA gives the astronauts on every space mission, an IBM Thinkpad, a.k.a., Lenovo. They are beast! Peace. Mr.T

You can modify the font size via skin studio. You will need to do this for both Caption and Maximized Caption. Keep in mind that this might break the Aero glass frost effect alignments. It was custom cut for the current size.

Well SD, I've looked at a lot of stuff. OldNewExplorer, UltraUXThemePatcher, StartIsBack, WindowBorder
Winaero, MajorGeeks Registry Tweaks, WinTools and Skin Studio. It seems there are so many versions of Windows 10, people respond with, "The panel shown in this link is not present in my Windows 10?" Or you get the registry suggestions, "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics", or "-15*desired height in pixels (Example: 20px = -15*20 = -300)". I've decided to live with the text size as is until. I don't want to do anything to Aero11, as it is my favorite. Well you can say if nothing else, Windows10 has created quite a "cottage industry!"

Sort of reminds me of Zorg, trying to explain to Father Vito Cornelius, that he's not such a bad guy, when he knocks the glass off his desk and says, "Look at all these little things! So busy now! Notice how each one is useful. A lovely ballet ensues, so full of form and color...You see, father, by causing a little destruction, I am in fact encouraging life. In reality, you and I are in the same business."

You need to download Stardock Skin studio from your account to edit the skin. Its not installed by default.

Howdy folks, this isn't a reply to my past post, but a new inquiry. (I try not to be a pest!), but maybe SimplexDesigns knows the answer. Would there be any reason "Areo 11", would prevent "Windows Explorer" from going into "dark mode?" I hate the glaring white screen of Win10. I have read most of the remedies for getting "explorer" into dark mode including settings in the registry. Of course their are a 100 guru's all giving the same advice, but I have yet to find a solution. I have the very last upgrade so I know it isn't an outdated OS version. I know some programs you can't change unless you can change the system settings. Strange that the "explorer" menu changes, but not the directory listings. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Peace!

Well fellow StarGazers, given enough time, the Internet will reveal all her secrets. I solved my problem. A couple of settings had to be made in Aero11, which was preventing "dark mode" from starting, (Mr. SimplexDesigns you one hell of a programmer), and the AutodarkMode program, which allowed me to turn on dark or light depending on what I am doing completed the fix. I went through a few programs, but found one that wouldn't screw up Aero11. Nice to look at a dark screen, it really saves your eye sight. Any body want more details just let me know.

Have a great weekend.

Fellow Stargazers,

I have been waiting for Squadron 42 for over 7 years! LOL! I hope Mark Hamill got paid for his part. But this message is about Microsoft's Windows 10 EUS. They said it was going to cost $30 for an extended year. I would have paid more, just to shut up the fanboys telling me how out of date I was going to be, but guess what? I signed up and didn't pay a dime for the service. I think for the short term Microsoft is learning a lesson, "Not everybody is going to be push, just because they need to make another $billion. I don't know how long they will keep not charging, but, since it is so easy to do, and doesn't involve any of their staff, I say go for it. Just takes a few clicks, no people or phone involve.

Microsoft is offering free extended security updates (ESU) for Windows 10 until October 13, 2026, for eligible users who meet specific criteria, though this is not universally available. The free option requires users to sign in with a Microsoft account and enable Windows Backup to sync their settings and files to the cloud, which uses OneDrive storage. This free access is available for consumer PCs in most regions, but users in the European Economic Area (EEA) can receive the updates for free without needing to sync data or use a Microsoft account.

  • Free Updates via Cloud Backup (Most Regions): Users in regions outside the EEA can get a year of free security updates by signing in with a Microsoft account and enabling Windows Backup, which syncs settings and files to OneDrive. This method is free but requires cloud storage, with a 5GB free limit on OneDrive.

  • Free Updates in the EEA: Microsoft has made ESU free for all consumer Windows 10 users in the European Economic Area without requiring cloud backup or Microsoft Rewards points, a change confirmed in September 2025.

  • Paid Option: A $30 fee per device per year remains available for users who do not wish to use cloud backup or Microsoft Rewards.

  • Alternative Free Option: Users can also redeem 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points to enroll in the ESU program, which can be accumulated through activities like Bing searches or purchases.

  • Enrollment Process: The enrollment wizard is available through the Settings app under Update & Security > , where users will see an "Enroll now" option if eligible. The feature was rolled out to regular users by mid-August 2025.

  • End of Support: While extended updates are available, the official end of support for Windows 10 remains October 14, 2025, and Microsoft continues to encourage users to upgrade to Windows 11.
