Search in Russian Not Working

search for app names

Greetings,

I'm having a problem with the search for apps whose names are in the Russian language. Start11 v.2 and v.2.1 just can't find the apps like "Входящие", "Диадок", etc.

I have Everything 1.5 alpha installed (running as a service with admin rights), and yes, these search results do display in global search, but they are not considered by Start11 as apps with shortcuts in Start Menu.

I have Windows 11 24H2, if this matters. And yes, I know it's a prerelease, so please share your experience with any other Windows version.

I first tried the app (I mean Start11) a few weeks ago and was so impressed that I bought it almost immediately after not using any Stardock apps for like 10 years or so.

Thanks.

A week has passed. Any chance for me?

I uninstalled Start11, of course, even earlier than I created this thread, as it (the app) was just unusable for me.

But I just hope a fix could be released.

If you need my help, I'm ready to re-install the app and collect logs or something.

Hello,
I have forward your problem/question again to Stardock Support Team for their assistance. We appreciate your feedback and patience.

I am curious, if you disable Start11 search it should open up Windows search when you need to search something, does Windows search get what you searching for?

Thank you.

Hi Basj,

Thank you.

And yes, of course, Windows search works fine.

But there was one more issue why I decided to stay away from Start11 for now - Explorer kept crashing too often. I think I can somehow attribute that to Everything search.

For this one, to confirm, if "Everything" is causing the issue. Open up Everything Options. Disable "Start Everything on system startup". Reboot your system and see if Explorer crashing resolved.

You can enable that option back once you have done the test. Report your finding here.

Thanks, but no :)

As I said, I don't have Start11 installed now, so I just don't want to install it again without my original issue having been fixed.

I am afraid we cannot help if you are unable to perform the tests.

However, if you were to continue, please:

Let us know if you can reproduce the issue.

    • Unistall 'Everything 1.5 alpha
    • Install Start11 v2 from your account page:

Well, thanks.

What I did was:

1. Uninstall Everything completely.

2. Install Start11 v2.1.1.0 from my products (I re-downloaded it yesterday in case it was silently updated).

3. Tried to search for apps whose names are in Russian.

So, it works like this: it sometimes finds an app if it finds a letter at the end of the app name. Sometimes, it finds apps with the typed letters in the middle of their names. Interesting, that not all apps containing that letter are found. For me, it just looks like it randomly picks an app to show in the search results. For example, it might suggest "Сбербанк" when I type "к", but it just doesn't when I type "с". Out of around 20 apps with Cyrillic characters in their names, I can only occasionally find three or four maybe.

I do understand that I live in an outlaw country, but you can still fix this issue for other Russian-speaking people from other countires.

Thank you and good luck to you, guys.

I'll leave with hard feelings for a while. I'll live :)

Don't politicized the computer issue. :annoyed: Obvious,"Everything" is main culprit as it wasn't compatible with Stardock Start. There is an alternative which compatible fine with Everything if you insisted as that developer claimed.

I'm still here. And no, the issue is not related to 'Everything Search'. Could you please re-read my post?

I did read, but it became trivial that asking very specific. -_-  Again, tried the alternative, and harassed developers there. *_*

Guys,

I see a new beta available, but there's no mention of my language issues, except for “several bugs are being squashed with this update”.

Does anyone know what exactly is inside?

Thanks.

Already did and uninstalled. The issue is still there. I suppose it's just not considered an issue by the devs :(

Well, ok.

Hello! Out of curiosity, I decided to check it myself - the search actually works very strangely. If you search for “Firewall” - "Брандмауэр" it finds it, but for example “Control Panel” -"Панель управления" it doesn’t find it. Some kind of damn thing...

Just out of curiosity, if you use Windows default Start panel and do the search, do you get all the expected result?

To be honest, I haven't tried it. I'm not at the computer now, tomorrow I'll test it and share the result here.

Thanks for being curious :)

I think I already tried to explain that the default Windows Start Menu (and whatever else there is in Windows) works as it should. No matter what the OS default language is set, it will return search results in English and Russian.

Same with Everything Search: it just works.

I just decided to write here again, because I understand that this is not considered to be an issue, that's it. Everything that was said here earlier has nothing to do with attempts to fix the issue.

I won't say I don't hope for a solution, but I just don't believe it will be around sometime in the nearest future :)

Thanks for your attention.

Hi Dmitry_N,

It appears the issue is due to the case sensitivity of Cyrillic characters. If you search using the exact capital letters of the apps, does that work?

When testing this with a shortcut named "Диадок".  Even just searching the single capital character Д found it:

We have these findings logged for internal review.

Internal Ref: ODNT-9542

Please let us know if that seems right, and if you have further thoughts to consider.
