Reporting an issue

Please include the following for anything found:

  • Exact Windows version \ build (winver.exe)

  • Detailed steps to recreate the issue seen

Known issues

While we appreciate all feedback, please remember that we offer no official support for beta \ preview \ developer channel versions of Windows. If you report issues while in any of those early release channels, you should not expect them to be addressed unless it still exists in a retail version of Windows.

This issue is still happening as I know it was stated that the new release "MAY" fix the disappearing Recent Documents but they are still clearing out.  Still a bug. :'(

For you and just 1 other - we have no other reports nor can we confirm it with a reproduction internally.

Have you done a Start11 cleanboot (under a new Windows Admin account as noted in the directions), and if not, can you reproduce it while under it?

Let me test this and see.  I am going to install it on a spare laptop so that I can run the test.  Will report back.

Looking forward to it but if it shares many of the same 3rd party app installs \ settings, and it happens on it too, its not the best of tests.

The issues I reported on Start11v2 version 2.07's thread here are still present in version 2.08, for the most part (read on for details)

Exact Windows Version: Windows 11 Version 22H2 (OS Build 22621.3155)
Start11 Version: 2.07 (now 2.08 for this thread)

Problem/Steps to reproduce: Pin certain items to Start11 via the context menu and then try to click those apps from Start 11. They won't open.

Apps affected:

- OBS Studio (3rd party)
- Snipping Tool (built-in Windows utility)
- "Classic" Teams (Microsoft app)

- OBS Studio issue:

When I pin OBS Studio (shortcut or the executable) to Start11, I see this message:

followed by this message:

This worked fine in Windows 10 and Start10.

- Snipping Tool issue:

When I pin Windows' Snipping Tool utility to Start 11, the first problem is that the icon is not correct; it shows the generic Windows 11 folder icon instead:

This worked fine in Windows 10 and Start10 for Snipping Tool and Snip & Sketch.

- Classic Teams issue:

When I pin Microsoft Teams classic to Start11, and then click on it, it loads this command line window, which then closes (and nothing else happens):

Teams classic worked fine in Windows 10 and Start10.

---

Given that this issue occurs for multiple apps, but not all of them (and across a variety of apps, such as built-in Windows features, 3rd party apps, and 2nd party/Microsoft apps), it seems like a change in the way Start11 handles calling/loading these applications rather than issues with the specific applications or with Windows 11.

The user who replied and suggested my installation was corrupt was wrong, as I suspected; uninstalling completely, restarting, and reinstalling did not resolve the issue.

That being said, OBS Studio now opens correctly since I've updated to v2.08. Teams classic and Snipping Tool are still broken when added to the Start11 menu and opened from there, unfortunately. And, for further troubleshooting purposes, I have Start11 set to display in Windows 7 style.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I don't have OBS Studio on my system. But I can not reproduce your issue on Snipping tool. Please create your own new thread and re-post everything there so we can help you from there.

Thank you.

I think I might have figured out what was causing this (well, hopefully).  I did have MS Powertoys installed, which I removed, but I might add that back later as there were no tools in that that cleared the start menu recent documents.

The one I think solved this is an app called Files, which you can get in the MS Store as it is a Windows Explorer-type app. Once I removed it, today, I have a bigger list of Recent Documents on the Start11 menu, and they don't seem to be disappearing.

I will continue to monitor this, but hopefully, that was the app causing the issue and resolves this issue. B)

I have an irritating issue that has been going on since sometime (the previous betas) and I cannot show it clearly on a video.

It appears when I have multiple monitors connected to my laptop, I am on something, and then I want to close a window on a monitor. I click right on a tab on the taskbar and right menu might need up to 10-15 seconds to appear. It is very irritating. After it appears and I try a 2nd time then the lag is shorter, like a second, but still irritating. Only if I click at one tab after another, the lag is acceptable.

Well so much for that theory as the problem still persists with disappearing recent documents.  I will continue to try to find the root cause but there is a bug here somewhere even if you guys cannot produce it.

System: Windows 10 Enterprise x64, 19045.4170

Problem: Long reboot or shutdown.

After installing Start11, the system takes a long time to reboot. The balls spin on the screen for about a minute and only then does it reboot. Without Start11 everything happens quickly, literally 2-4 seconds. On Windows 11 there is also no problem.

Hello.

It would be great to have an option to set the "Taskbar Button Width". I have a wide monitor with plenty of real-estate on the Taskbar. I would prefer to read more text on each open windows' taskbar button, before encountering the "..." trailing text. I am happy to share a screenshot if that helps.

Thoughts?

Question to the community of users: Do you get the Copilot button/option on the taskbar with the Start11 installed? I have two laptops I use with Start 11 and the option to have copilot on the taskbar is deactivated. Somewhere I read that in multi-monitor setups Microsoft deactivates the option. But I had an older laptop that have not used it for some time and had Start 11 v1.5. I did the updates and got the Copilot button. Then I updated to Start 11 v2.08 and the option disappeared.

Thank you, are you in US? In Germany it nags me to pay for the Pro version and do not get the option for the taskbar

I don't believe Copilot is available in the EU due to the "Digital Markets Act (DMA)" and the "EU Artificial Intelligence Act." I think there are plans to make Copilot available as a separate app in the Microsoft Store at some point for the EU.

Any view on ARM support going general release?

I asked about it yesterday - it's in the pipe.  The best I can say is the likely frustrating 'soon'.

If you would like to discuss this further or in the future, please create a new thread for it.

Hi, I've noticed for a few weeks now when I start Windows it takes a few seconds to load all the program icons

With other versions of Start11 this did not happen.

Is this a thing for everyone now? or is it just my problem?

Load what icons, Sciroppo, and how long is 'a few seconds' exactly?

If you are referring to icons in any given Start11 menu, what menu and what menu styles?  Does it happen for all menu styles or just a select few (and what ones)?
