I don’t know what functionality you used in these two programs, but in my case it works very poorly. Install Start11 and configure everything as you wish. Then install StartAllBack and completely disable customizing the taskbar and Start Menu, leaving only customizing Explorer and activating the classic context menu. The classic context menu will always and everywhere be displayed with a delay. I don’t know what kind of compatibility support for these two programs was implemented in Start11, but in StartAllBack during installation a warning about incompatibility appears...

Dear team — I have a bug feedback/feature request please, that I think would dramatically improve usability.  For context I am using "Windows 10 style with improvements", although this applies to all Start Menu configurations I have trialled.

When adding a items to the Shortcuts list and choosing "Display as a menu" (instead of the default "Display as a list"), please make it so that clicking on a folder opens it.  Currently clicking on folders does nothing, you can only hover over them to proceed to the next sub-menu until you click on a file to click on.

Case in point: I use Start11 to tidy/streamline my Start menu, and as I rarely use Documents, Music, Pictures and so on, I instead chose "Personel folder" set to "Display as a menu" so aformentioned personel folders are available but grouped under one item.  However, I cannot open them with having to right-click and doing a quick visual search for "Open file location" in the list which is cumbersome.

The bug in question relates to the menu crashing and restarting.  I just tried this by clicking on "Personel folder", hovering over "Downloads", right-clicking, and before I could access the shell menu it crashed the menu.  This happened twice, and the fix was to hover over "Downloads", and then hover over some of the presented files within Downloads.  I am not sure why, it was like it encouraged Downloads to cache or something, then I could move the mouse back to "Downloads" and right-click it to open it as a folder in File Explorer.  This same issue occurs from time to time when I add Google Drive folders to the Shortcuts list, which is the folder system I work out of.

Simply clicking on the sub-folders would both avoid the above bug and more importantly help increase the speed of the workflow dramatically.

Many thanks.

Your detailing of an issue here does not seem unique to 2.08; thus, this thread would not be where you would document it.

However, as you have seemingly detailed, right-clicking over the 'display as menu' item, does reveal an 'open' option to go directly to it:

https://cdn.stardock.us/support/uploads/2024-08-01_10-24-35sdrohan.mp4

Of course, I did not experience a 'crash' when doing so.

What you may want to try prior is create a backup of your current settings, reset Start11 (all under the 'About' menu in the Start11 config), set up and try what I have shown, and see if you can reproduce it.  If not, its something you have set that is causing an issue.

There is also the option to purge and reinstall of Start11:

https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1349320730/Start+Menu+purging+and+re-installing

If this helps you, great.  If it does not, please create a new thread, including my response here, and we will continue to work on it.

Thanks,

We upgraded a machine to the latest insider canary build and are not experiencing this issue.

I suspect this is one of those random glitches which happen with a new Windows update.

Uninstall Start11, reboot and then install the latest version from the Stardock store and I would imagine all is well.

Windows 10 21H2 (19044.4780)

Problem:If any application adds a item to the righ click menu on this pc shortcut (or user adds them thru various methods example using win areo tweaker to add event viewer, devices manager etc) the icons beside the name show correctly however right clicking on the same item in start11 the icons do not show most of the time and some times they show for one set of items then shift to other and so on)

With every right click the icons show or don't show it;s all random

Hello! The translation of “task manager” was never corrected, although they promised...

When you right-click on the shortcuts of portable programs added to the Start menu, it freezes for a few seconds, please fix it.

New issue, as of the latest Windows 11 updates.  (Winver 23H2 Build 22631.4037)
Updates applied on 8/13/2024
KB5042099 - Cumulative Update .Net 3.5 & 4.8.1 x64
KB5042131 - .Net 6.0.33 x64 update
KB5041585 Cumulative update Win 11 23H2 x64

Triple 2560x1440 monitor setup, pyramid style.  (One on top, two side by side bottom)  Top monitor is primary.

Start11 configured to put the taskbar on the top, primary monitor only.

Prior to the update, right clicking taskbar icons worked as intended.  The right click menu would fly down and be visible as it should.

Post update, right clicking taskbar icons either gives nothing or a brief flicker and then nothing.  I almost felt as if it was not processing the right click at all - BUT!!!....

Change Start11 to display taskbar on the bottom of the primary monitor, restart explorer and right click menus for taskbar icons fly up - working as intended.

Change to display taskbar at the top, restart explorer and right click menus are no longer visible - my guess is they are "displaying off-screen".

Please fix.  Thank you.

Are you using Start11v2 - 2.09?

Are you using the Enhanced taskbar?

How are you arranging the Start button? Left; Left Start button with Centered App buttons; or Centered?

Start11V2 - 5.08 (Check for updates states that is current and from what I am reading 5.09 is beta)

Yes on the enhanced task bar, tried disabling that - no effect - right click menus still display 'off screen' when the taskbar is at the top.

Start button, apps - all left.

I believe you are talking about the 2.09 Beta which fixed that issue.

Ok, so 2.09...well to be amusing, fixed the issue but broke it even further at the same time.  Let me explain...

In my pyramid of three monitors, the top is designated as the main (primary) display.  But Windows numbers them arbitrarily - lower left is 1, lower right is 2, upper monitor is 3.

When I tell Start11 2.09 to display it at the top of my primary monitor, all is good....until I right click an icon (not the bar itself, but an ICON) - then it moves the bar from the primary monitor to the lower left monitor (reminder - windows display 1) at the top of the screen and the menu drops down as it should.  Reset everything, repeat...same behavior.  reboot, still the same.  It refuses to stick to the top of my primary display and instead eventually sticks to the monitor labelled 1.

So...after work (spent enough time messing with this already) I'll be rolling back to 2.08 - in my case it's the least broken version.

You should be able to arrange them in the order you want.

Installed the latest update for Start 11. Since the update every time I shutdown and then next time I boot all of my desktop icons are outside the fences I created for them. I double checked the setting and have "Preserve my layout by scaling.....". I have no hardware changes and this happens 90% or more of the time.   Running Windows 11 Pro version 21H2 (OS Build 22000.2538). I have deleted the pre-existing fences and recreated them but it did not fix the problem. I have 3 fences setup and one of them which only has 2 icons has always stayed correct.

Pelaird,

Everything was working fine until the latest round of Windows updates, no hardware changes have been made, no other new software, nothing plugged/unplugged...the system remains on 24x7 and only gets rebooted for updates or issues like I encountered today.

This 'bug' does not involve how I arrange my monitors.  I work in IT, have supported multiple monitor setups on PC's, Apple systems (even before the Macs), SGI's, etc. for almost 40 years.  I know how to arrange monitors.

In reply to your suggestion, as well meaning as it was - I link two articles below that will show what it would take to work with the 2.09 bug/feature/glitch just isn't feasible or possible.  The system assigns the DIN during boot identification and we really can't change it.  So 2.09 moving the taskbar from the primary display to the DIN1 display top edge when you right click a taskbar icon is a bug that they need to fix.

(Look for the yellow bordered NOTE about halfway down the page)

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/1622766/how-to-change-the-display-identity-number-of-my-ma
(As the answers show, there is no easy or supported or even reliable way to change the DIN of each monitor)

This is nothing to do with Start11 updates.  It sounds like a Fences problem.

Reporting my issue

My Issue - Taskbar icons close to Start button won't let me right-click on them. I can right-click on the empty space of the taskbar though and it works fine. I just can't right-click the icons. This occurred on my Desktop

FYI, I updated my Laptop-Legion7 the same day and it did not have this issue.

Issue started after Windows Update

Security Intelligence Update for Microsoft Defender Antivirus - KB2267602 (Version 1.417.101.0) - Current Channel (Broad)
Successfully installed on 8/13/2024

Requested Information:

Current Version - Start11 V2 - Version 2.08

Microsoft Windows
Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.4037)

Windows 11 Pro (not sure if the version above will tell you what Windows I am using)

Using only one monitor - ThinkVision P44w-10 Monitor

Start11 V2 placement - configured with the taskbar on the top, primary monitor only

Settings -
Start Menu-Window 10 Style
Start Button - Center Aligned - On top of the monitor
Taskbar - Enhanced the taskbar enabled
Taskbar - Enhanced the taskbar - Always combine taskbar buttons
Taskbar pins - Not in use

Troubleshooting Steps I took:

Start11 V2 is the issue.

Step 1:I uninstalled Start11 V2 without removing my Start11 V2 settings using the default Windows 11 Uninstall through the Windows Settings. and the regular Taskbar worked normally.

Step 2: Once I installed Start11 V2 again which I used the file Start11v2_[V2.0.6.4] and continued with updated to Start11v2_[2.08] via prompt - the issue persisted. [I am not sure what I had initially, but I usually update it when I am prompted.]

Step 3: Cleared Information in the Settings Backup - Still have issues.
Step 4: Turned off the "enhance the taskbar" - Still have issues.

This is what partially solved my issue:

Step 5: Positioning the taskbar to the bottom with start button centered - fixed the issue. -- but I would prefer it the the top of the monitor.

Step 6: Re-enabled the "enhance the taskbar" -  the issue did not come back.

Now I am restarting my PC - just because...

Step 7: Now I tried repositioning the taskbar to Align Top - The problem reappeared.

Step 8: Now I uninstalled this time using Revo Uninstaller - I also removed the Start11v2 settings during this time. and continued with restarting PC now.

Step 9: Reinstalled - Start11v2_[V2.0.6.4] - The issue reappeared.
Step 10: Updated to - Start11v2_[2.08] - The issue is still here.

Below is what resolved my issue -

Step 11: First time Trying the Beta Update - File Name: Start11_2.0.9.0-j137-Setup_sd, once it was installed, it prompted me to restart my computer so I did (I always restart when asked) -- It fixed my issue. I am able to keep my Taskbar on top, Start button is centered aligned, and I can now right-click on the icons next to my Start button.

FYI, I just downloaded the Beta File: Start11_2.0.9.0-j137-Setup.exe about hour ago.

And since Revo Uninstaller cleaned everything related the Start11v2 in my computer -- I believe the Beta is what solved my issue.

Link is a video showing what current Start11 V2 I have installed, Taskbar on top, and I am able to right-click on the Sticky Notes icon App as an example which shows my issue is solved.

Video Result link - https://youtu.be/PBaUOrP0gLw

- I came here for help, but in the end I solved it! Rahhh!

Heyo, I just wanted to ask here if I am doing anything wrong or there is a setting for the Search to remove this white thing? I wish to remove it or control its colour, and maybe to change some things that appear here, since a lot of it is extremely large and overflowing out of the white area.

Hi,

This is more of a nice to have feature.  With the default Start Menu it shows when a new application is installed with the word "New" under the icon.  You can normally get rid of this by just right clicking on the icon in the normal Windows start menu and getting the context menu to show.  With Start11 right clicking doesn't clear the "new" from the icon.  I took a screenshot of what I am referring to below.  The "New" also doesn't go away after opening the program either, it just seems to be stuck there.  Otherwise this is a great little program that makes Windows 11 not a frustrating mess to use, for the Start Menu anyway... now only if you guys could fix the other stuff Microsoft screwed up with this version, lol.

This "New" designation should disappear after a few days. There is no way to remove it on demand.

One small observation about an app's open-window list. IMO the sort order should be the other way up, with the app itself at the bottom, nearest its taskbar button, and the open windows listing upwards, with the most recently-opened at the top.

Having only just started using it since yesterday afternoon, it appears to be the other way around.

The way it is now would be the way up it needed to be if the taskbar and resulting list were at the top of the screen....

This could be said to be nit-picking however :)

Start11 does not provide this window, this is a native Windows thing so comments regarding it would unfortunately need to go to Microsoft themselves.
