  • Adjusted combined taskbar buttons in Win10 style to stop the line at the bottom of multiple items merging together

  • Detects SAB handling taskbar and will disable all Start11 taskbar features to ensure compatibility

  • NEW * Added new option to set a tab as the default tab to show in a group regardless of the last tab open

  • NEW * Added universal apps, all apps, and steam apps as options for quick access shortcut menu links

  • Resolved issue with right-click menus on taskbar showing separators one menu item lower than it should

  • Added string registry key to disable the above HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Start8\Start8.ini\Start8  S11_ShowAutoHideOnTaskbar = 1

  • Added string registry key to use Win32 menus on right click on the taskbar to allow third party extension of the menu. Use HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Start8\Start8.ini\Start8    S11_UseOldRightClickMenus = 1

  • Resolved "Use a custom menu background" option showing as disabled on open of config even when enabled

  • Resolved issue with custom accent color impacting Win10 item text on mouseover

  • Resolved issue with taskbar shortcuts that have been deleted by the user or an uninstaller incorrectly (vs being unpinned) showing as unremovable white icons on the taskbar in enhanced taskbar mode.  The icons will now remain and they can be removed by right click unpin for all new cases and old ones will simply no longer show at all.

  • Swapping taskbar touch mode / not no longer requires an explorer restart

  • Resolved issue with custom menu background not correctly painting after menu swaps from one dpi screen to another

  • Stopped all apps list on Windows App style menu from taking mouse focus when a menu overlapped that window sometimes

  • Tweaked Start11 autohide mode to no longer reserve any space at the bottom of the screen.  This does mean the very bottom pixel of a maximized app isn't clickable, but this shouldn't be an issue as click targets should never be so small.

  • Tweaked overlay icon on taskbar buttons to be slightly bigger to match Windows 11 unless using small taskbar size

  • Resolved issue with taskbar thumbnail popups not always showing again after a primary monitor swap

  • Resolved issue with right-click menus on taskbar showing separators one menu item lower than it should

  • Resolved issue with some pinned items on Win10/11/Apps/Launcher/Pro menus not showing Jump lists when they can on right-click

  • Resolved hang issue when Win11/App/Pro/Launcher start menu has no groups that are not read only. This could have happened in other situations but this was the particular one found.

  • Resolved issue with Import settings on login Business edition feature not working correctly in all situations

  • Resolved issue with restore settings in config not telling Start11 to reload the groups if the menu mode was the same

  • Also resolved an issue with the experimental load tile images option loading white images for apps like MS word etc.

Known issues

While we appreciate all feedback, please remember that we offer no official support for beta \ preview \ developer channel versions of Windows. If you report issues while in any of those early release channels, you should not expect them to be addressed unless it still exists in a retail version of Windows.

Start 11 v2.03 installed was working good. Did the update to 2.05 and my boot time increased from 16 seconds to over 69 seconds. Restored my computer from backup and boot time is back to 16 seconds. Reloaded 2.06 and boot is again 69 seconds. Instead of restoring from backup this time I just installed 2.03 over 2.06 and the boot time is good at 16 seconds. I did this several times and the 2.05 and 2.06 version is causing the boot delay.

Would Process Monitor logs help as well?

No hangs or crashes

Event log shows event 100 boot duration 71009ms, IsDegradation True. Under details, the only one that is different is MainPathBootTime 51709. Without 2.05 or 2.06 the time is 5012.

I will have to learn how to do process monitor log.

Windows 11 23H2
Start11 v2 2.0.6
Modern style with Icon

1) The taskbar shuts down and restarts intermittently.
2) If you search for 'calc' in English, 'calculator' is not found.
When '계산기' is entered in Korean, a calculator is searched only.

Because of this problem, we went back to version 2.0.5.

when enhanced taskbar is enable , some app's icon missing on taskbar like ESET or Spotify.

I was seeing the mostly blank custom toolbar occasionally on version 2.0.5, I don't think it is specific to 2.0.6.  A reboot cleared it up.

Not sure if this is a "bug" or a missing "feature", but I always set this key on new Windows installations:

reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced" /v LastActiveClick /t  REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

If I have multiple copies of an application open (most often file explorer), it will bring each of them to the top, in sequence, each time I click on the Taskbar icon.  I loath having to wait for the popup and guess which of the thumbnails to click.  I believe this was the default until Windows 8.

Would love to see this functionality available in Start11.  Loving it so far, Thanks!.

2) Start11 v2 2.0.5(Old Version)

It would be nice to be able to change the font colour on the tabs and icon descriptions rather that just black or white.

What might be being exposed here is a translation issue introduced with 2.06.  If it's not much trouble for you, and because you seem fluent in English, can you reproduce the issue if the PC language is set to English?

Lastly, for any crash that you can reproduce reliably, we would want to collect crash dumps for.  To do so, please see:

Appreciate the feedback an information.

I was having problems with Start11 V2.06 achieving full screen w/apps w/TB set to Autohide and positioned at the top of the monitors, Main: Dell S3220DFG and 2nd Asus IPS MX279.

I rolled back the install of 2.06 to 2.05 and everything is fine. Will try again when 2.06 has been refined.

Basj is aware of this. I wasn't aware of this thread and thought I'd repost here.

Thanks

Bill

I have fixed some translation problems in the previous start11 version from a native Japanese speaker's point of view.
Can you please check and update it?

Removing startallback "support" is a problem for me. I use startallback only to activate system-wide dark mode (black file transfer, etc.). But in the latest version it doesn't let me use start11 together with startallback.

I understand that if both are activated it may cause a conflict, but if only the desired options are activated it has been working. For me the new version is a problem and I have returned to 2.0.5

Are you sure you have not enabled options in that to change the taskbar to the Windows 10 style on Windows 11?

If not it may need further investigation and the list of settings enabled in that would be helpful as we added this to improve compatibility not make it worse :)

I should note we have not removed support, we have added detection to prevent reported conflicts which stop the two working together without the menu getting stuck in a loop.  We had a number of complaints about this.

Yes, I'm sure. I have also tried it on 2 different computers. One with Windows 11 stable and another with insider preview. In StartAllBack only have the win7 explorer style activated. ( Menu, start, taskbar, etc... all disabled.) When I install Start11 2.0.6 it works, but every time I restart start11 it is disabled, in 2.0.5 it works without problem. If you want me to pass captures, logs, etc. I can do it.

Can you provide us with a screenshot of the taskbar please.

I don't know exactly what part you need. From startallback I only want the file explorer without tabs and the "dark" mode

It seems there may be a problem with detecting startallback on initial startup sometimes as it may detect it and the taskbar hasn't loaded up the Win11 specific bits yet so confuses Start11 into thinking the taskbar replacement feature of that app is enabled.  If you restart explorer it would then be ok until the next time you sign in.

For now you can bypass this by creating a registry key in this location :

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/SOFTWARE/Stardock/Start8/Start8.ini/Start8

Call it S11_DisableSABOptOut and make it type string and give it a value of "1"

Then next time you restart explorer it shouldn't detect it.
