Quoting Neil Banfield,

We do have a registry key override to disable this detection which a user has posted in this thread for you.  If you use that you will encounter no problems.

I just tried that and it does not work. I put in the registry key, did a restart of my computer and Start11 is still DISABLED.
This is beyond infuriating. I am downgrading to 2.05. Everything I want / need to say....I've already said.

I am sorry you are having trouble with this as that is not the experience we want you to have.  Thankfully it sounds like you still have your 2.05 installer and in your situation I agree sticking with 2.05 for now seems like the right choice.

We have a 2.07 update in the works which has addressed this timing sensitivity so it should work fine for you in the future.

Right now the hope is this beta goes out this either today or at least sometime this week.

1. I mentioned this in the 2.04 thread and you fixed it, but now it's back again in 2.06 lol.
On the right side of the the Start11 menu button there's a vertical 1 pixel wide line that isn't covered by the Start11 button. So when you click on this it will open the original Windows 11 Start Menu. It's only 1 pixel wide but somehow i manage to click on this area pretty often. This happens with any of the Start Menu themes (7 style, 10, 11 etc) and with Windows 11 scaling set to 150%, 175% and 200% (Settings > Display > Scale) and maybe more scaling options but i haven't tested them all.

2. Edit: Ignore this one. Thanks to @pelaird i've now fixed the giant spacing (but would be nice if this was easier to do).

All the Windows 11 style themes have massive spacing between icons. It's as if they've been designed for amputee/stump users that use touch input... The original Win11 Start Menu does not space icons this far apart either. I've messed around with icon 'Resize', 'Adjust global menu scaling' and 'Shortcut icons should be sized' but the giant spacing can only be slightly improved and at the cost of making the icons larger than i'd like. So can you please add an option like 'Adjust icon spacing'? And if the icons have no caption/text displayed, then there should be an option to space them even closer together, or they could automatically be spaced much closer once the icon caption is set to 'Hidden' (but still allow the user to customise it).

3. When using the Enhanced Taskbar + auto-hide, the Taskbar still does not always appear when the cursor is moved to the bottom of the screen. It happens very often, especially with maximised windows. But if the Windows 11 auto-hide is used instead of the Start11 auto-hide, then it will work correctly (or the Taskbar will now at least appear 99% of the time. Windows has always had this problem but it's been improved in Win11 so it's now more reliable than previous versions). I'd prefer to use the Start11 option simply because the animation is smoother, looks better, and most importantly it's faster. But right now it's way too unreliable.

Here is an example of a tab with medium size icons and one with small size icons on Windows 11 style on my system.

I'm still wondering if there is a way to have a line break in an icon title, so the name goes over two lines rather than the end being truncated ?

Are you using any other settings? Because i don't get anything like that with small icons and Windows 11 style . The icons are always spaced far apart.

Edit: Ah i found it! It works now, no more fat spacing. I had to right click on the Group, then go to Appearance > Icon style > Small.
Then i also needed to set the Group Icon style to 'Hide icon text'. I was right clicking on each individual icon before, instead of the Groups.

I'm running Windows 11 23H2 stable with the latest updates. The hidden task bar feature is working fine but many apps seem to be in front of it. It isn't always on top and so I have to minimise Firefox for example to open the task bar and interact with it.

Also would it be possible to enable the hide option on only one monitor and not the other?

If you enable the setting below the autohide setting to reserve one line of space does the problem go away?

Thanks for the fast response.

It seems to be a bit better, but still not completely fine. For example Firefox seems to work fine so far but Spotify isn't.

I also had to restart the explorer 5 times until it responded again.

Not a problem really but I'm on V2.06 and I'm trying to pin "This PC" to the taskbar but every time I try it it only adds the 'Quick Access'.

No matter what I try. Is it not possible?

I manage to pinned "This PC" to taskbar by using Start11v2->Taskbar pins->Pin Folder->This PC->Click "OK"-> Click "YES" when the "Are you sure you want to pin this to the taskbar" popup come up.

That should do it.

Thank you,

I was just going to get on and update my post cause I found your solution. :) Thanks.

You can also set File Explorer to open This PC as default, so you'd essentially have 'This PC' pinned to the Taskbar by just having File Explorer pinned there.

In File Explorer click on:  '. . .' > Options > General tab > Open File Explorer to: This PC

I'm evaluating Start11 for individual purchase and am really liking it, but after getting the layout how I like it, I encountered the following defect. When using the "Windows app style" for the start menu, the space where shortcut icons are displayed is very small, forcing the user to substantially widen the menu to see them all.

Windows 11 build 22631.3296

EDIT: Also, please consider adding the Microsoft Store as one of the selectable standard locations for shortcuts. It's just as baked-in to the OS as the other options are, and it would be nice to free up a pinned spot for that. My attempts to create a custom shortcut for it aren't working. In Open-Shell, I accomplished this by creating an entry which runs ms-windows-store: when clicked.

Is this still true if you install the Start11 2.07 Beta

Windows Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3296

The taskbar on one screen wouldn't come up at all on one screen, that screen was random everytime I restarted, and the taskbar now takes a full second or two before it unhides.

I didn't think to screenshot before I uninstalled and i just kinda had to because I work on 3 screens and having to jump to other screens for my taskbar was too irritating.

I'm not sure the software works well for multiple screens with hidden taskbars. For a few years it's been setting my taskbar in the windows settings to unhidden and giving me an error saying i can't have more than one taskbar hidden per screen even though I only have 1 per screen to begin with.

I'm just dropping you a line in case you didn't know. No need to reply to me cuz i'm not gonna use the software anymore.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know.

  1. Windows full version numbers. Use Winver.exe
  2. And where is this overlay come from?

Thanks

Also, this is clearly not a version issue, but rather, an overall usage one.  Thus, it would  be prudent to create a new thread on this.
