Ok, 1 Terabyte is 1024 Gigabytes... which in turn equals 1,048,576 Megabytes...

Assuming that your average Mp3 is 3 Megabytes, youd have room for around 350,000 songs...Or about 17,500 CD's worth of music...(at 20 songs per disc)

Unless youre doing some serious movie creation/editing...I see no reason for that much space...

in video editing, you find that GB's are like MG's. they get eaten up really god damn fast. or, if you happen to be storing a divx collection. 30 movies isn't uncommon, and thats around 30 gigs. i had, before my wma-mp3 conversion dissaster, 30 gigs of wma's..now we're up to 60 gigs, 20 gigs of programs, 80, another 20 gigs of games, thats 100. i could use a couple terradrives and never have to worry about storage again.

Oh and don't foget that downloading movies from pay to watch sites will also be on your hard drive.

I am not sure if a program like Partition Magic works on RIAD (probably doesn't... and its possible that you don't need it anyway if you have RIAD) but it would be good to check on programs like it to see if your hard drive can preform better.

and games too... I forgot about games.

I personally only want a couple of them but after4 or 5 games you can take up 10 gigs. My Train Simulator gams takes up 3gigs and that is before I started making new routes.

I just got my XPS 3Gig with 2Gig of Ram and the 19inch LCD. It is awesome!!!

Performance is exceptional, display is amazing, and the Radeon 9800 works awesome. I'm copying my DVD's from the rental store, Making my own DVD's from the family outings, I use it as a Tivo machine and burn the episodes I record to DVD. And Games...Don't get me started.

I love it...and it wasn't 5k. (But it was still too expensive) I am abundantly blessed with it!

anyone using the new 'm' chips from intel? IT guy at work got a new laptop today with one of em.. said it tops out at 1.7ghz but had so much push, and was so small and cool, that it was choice for the price.

iplural, are you saying its decent? how's it run at 899? my celeron toshiba dogged out unplugged.. couldn't do anything on it.

power saving, runs 1.6 plugged in and as the battery charge diminishes the CPU speed drops, 899mhtz is the lowest I've seen it.

So I have the power saving on the the system turned off and then turn off internal hardware I do not use all the time, such as the IR Network, Bluetooth, Modem/Fax/Intel Pro 10/100 which helps offset the drain a bit. With it setup like this I can run it full tilt for 1.5 - 2 hours on a full charge, depending on which main battery I have in and if I do not have one of my other hard drives, the DVD/CDRW or one of the extra batteries in the smartbay.

i mean, how good is the performance as it gradually slows down? is it an MS Office machine or can you get away with some photoshop or train-ride dvd watching?

I only use the net or word when I am unplugged with my laptop. Wireless is great

It works great as I have the power features turned off for the CPU almost always and it has 1 gig of ram with an ATI video...

Travis, I'm thinking I may just have to buy myself one of the laptops at http://www.go-l.com. I was pricing systems at DELL and the comparable Inspiron 8600 with all the goodies I want costs about the same but the go-l system is much nicer looking. I have an e-mail into their sales people with some questions I have but if everything works out I think my tax return has been spent (and then some!)!!

Now those are some nice looking systems and they have Guts too!

I really like that Hollywood Gold Pro 17 wide screen...
