I think the icon was created with the correct size, I don't see any difference between a Windows icon and this one.

the icon has a size of 128x128 in .ico format obviously

An icon size, ie. 128x128, relates to a bounding box of 128x128 which includes the image and any transparent space. If the image is smaller than the bounding box, it will be smaller than an icon that fills the bounding box.

The icons above are both 256x256, and as you can see, the one on the right is smaller.

I knew I missed something... o_O  Thank you pelaird  for explaining that so well.

A Windows icon isn't made up of just one image or size. Windows explorer in Windows 10, has the sizes seen on the left in the screenshot and resizes the one nearest to what is displayed.

If an icon however have just one size, or are missing the essential sizes, issues may occur. And as you can see, 128x128 isn't even there in the Windows default explorer icon, so that might be a good place to start to try other icons and see if the issue goes away, or even better if you can open it in an icon editor to see the different sizes or create those missing.

Can you send me a suitable icon to check?
What program did you use to check the icon?

I use Axialis Icon Worksop 6.8.0.0 (rather old from 2012) but the current version is 6.92 so not much have changed. There is a trial version available here: https://www.axialis.com/iconworkshop/

There are plenty of icons here at Wincustomize you can try: https://www.wincustomize.com/explore/icons

I bought Start11 V1 on October 26th, and according to the FAQ I should have gotten a complimentary upgrade code to V2 in my email "early November." When is this supposed to be sent out? Have not received it yet.

I believe it was send out to all that suppose to get, recently. If you did not received it, Please raise support ticket using the link below, use the "Ask a Question" option. Include all information details. Remember to record down the ticket number for future reference if needed. Do not raise multiple ticket, that will make your ticket back to the end of the line. Send once and wait. Ticket will be answer by the order they send in.

Hi, I encountered this problem when creating a menu folder in the start bar

the menu that opens because it goes too high?

in addition to this I noticed that the icons of the folders created are much smaller than the other icons such as file explorer.

Isn't it possible to set it to the same size as the other icons?

The small icon size which Neil referred to is 20x20 pixels. I believe the icons on the taskbar are actually scaled to approximately 30x30. Okay, so I opened the Windows Explorer icon and the Windows standard folder icon from the Imageres.dll in icofx 3 which is a professional icon editor. The folder size in the 20x20 icon for Explorer is 20 pixels wide x 18 pixels tall, and the folder size of the standard folder is 18 pixels wide x 14 pixels tall. This is the reason the Explorer folder looks larger than the standard folder on your taskbar. See the images below.

So, if these icons were scaled to 30 pixels wide; the standard folder would be 23 pixels tall and the Explorer folder would be 27 pixels tall.

Yes guys it was the wrong icon I had, I downloaded an icon from your site and it was correct.

I would like to point out something, I don't know if it is feasible or if it is already introduced in the program and I am not aware of it.

Since I have multiple pages in the start and each time you have to click on the dots to go from one page to another, isn't it possible to go from one page to another with a swipe from right to left in the empty areas of the page? so you can move from one page to another quickly, because now you have to pay more attention to move from one page to another, I'm not saying it's difficult, but making this operation easier and making it even easier is fast, it would be really fantastic

Is this a touch screen or are you using a mouse? If you're using a mouse and your start menu is tall enough that it doesn't scroll vertically, you can change pages by using the scroll wheel on your mouse.

I use the mouse, but if I use the mouse wheel it scrolls down the page it doesn't change the page.

I use the mouse, but if I use the mouse wheel it scrolls down the page it doesn't change the page.

As I said above, your start menu has to be tall enough so that it doesn't scroll vertically.

Either pull the start menu taller so that is doesn't scroll vertically, or if you don't have the screen real estate, move enough icons to a new page so that it doesn't scroll anymore.

Oh, and I almost forgot! If you move your mouse over the page dots at the bottom, you can use the scroll wheel to change pages, even if the page scrolls vertically.

  • Resolved the issue of having too many items in a folder resulting in being unable to see all of the items.  It will now scroll them instead.

Should we undo the Registry tweak for this before installing, or did you use the same string name and value?

Never mind, it's still needed to keep the context menu in one column.

Did this get fixed as well?

Added the Registry String S11_MenuMode; tried all the values (0,1,2) with no change in the context menus.

(Tried both restarting Explorer and Restating the computer.)

I had a similar experience with 2.02; lost all my icons on the start menu. The shortcut place holders were still there and they worked. This happened when I was moving an icon within a tab. I rolled back to 2.01 and after the restart, everything was in place again. Installed 2.02 again and so far no issues.

There seems to be something whanky with 2.02. Will try to figure out what causes it if it happens again and report back.

I don't see anyone else with the issue I'm having right now. For some reason, all Windows system icons on my taskbar (the default Windows Start button [when I have that chosen], the Task View button, and the entire System Tray) are centered at zero height.  Also, some of my other icons get strangely doubled.  I'm attaching a picture to show you what I mean.

My taskbar

I'm running beta 2.0.2 on Windows 11 23H2 (build 22631.2715).

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please try this, uninstall Start11, reboot immediately after uninstall finished. Redownload Start11 v2.02 Beta, install it. Reboot again, retest and report back.

Thanks

I see explorer crashing occasionally when changing an icon. Happens after choosing the icon and coming back from the choice-dialogue. Icon remains unchanged. 2nd attempt works then.

I'm also using colors to distinguish my default tabs, but I'm still waiting for an option in settings to set the Default Tab when opening the Start11 menu!

I have a problem with Start11v2.02. The screenie shows AeonFlux. Note the Black rectangle around the start menu which should have been transparant. Duplicated LS's WB settings to no effect. Uninstalled the skin, and then reinstalled from a fresh download. This only affects LightStar's and vStyler's skins as well as don5318's. Have consulyed with LightStar and we can't figure this out.

Wndows 11 23H2 Build 22631.2715 WB 11.02 Start11v2.02 beta. Windows in Dark mode. In light mode, the rectangle around the start menu is pale gray.

Can anyone help?
