How do I resize the right side of the taskbar with all of the notification icons (volume, Safely Remove Hardware, etc.)? I have quite a number of these icons showing and it's stretching far into the normal area of the taskbar so I'd like to be able to resize it or at least be able to make it a double row of them.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, please don't multiple posts on the same issue. Answered your other thread.

Thank you.

Sorry, I thought my post in this thread got lost so I made a separate thread.

I just upgraded Start11 from version 1 to 2.0 last night. (Running Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 22631.2506, updated November 10th 2023)
I have an issue where pressing the start button in taskbar, shows the windows 11 start menu.
When pressing the windows key on my keyboard it shows the Start11 menu.

I've checked the settings, and it's set to display start11 menu on start button click.
If i restart explorer.exe it correctly shows the Start11 menu on start button click, but when i reboot the system it's back to displaying windows 11 menu.

I found an earlier thread, from May i believe, where users reported windows 11 menu opened on windows key press, but start11 on start button click.

Is this related?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Try this, uninstall Start11, reboot immediately, re-download latest version again from your account page. Reinstall it and reboot immediately again after installation finished. Retest it and report back. Also, do you have any other 3rd party application installed previously which might changed Start menu/Explorer/Taskbar etc?

Thanks

Hi Basj.

My 1.x version showed the same behaviour, which is why i ended up upgraded to version 2, as i figured enough had changed in windows 11, that version 1 simply just didn't work with 23H2.

I started with rebooting, then uninstalling/reboot/install, still no luck.
I then uninstalled, rebooted, downloaded Start11 v2, and over multiple reboots, same behaviour.

I'm running stock windows 11 pro, no other software changes the start menu/explorer/taskbar as I'm trying to run as clean a system as possible.

I tested the version you recommended.
Once installed, without reboot, the menu was working as expected.
Once rebooted, I'm back to same issue.

Windows 11 menu is shown when clicking the start button.
Start11 menu is shown when pressing the windows key on my keyboard.

All settings are the same, and start11 is configured to show on start button click.

To fix errors after a reinstall, you should reboot immediately for best results, and not start using the program and restart later.

So something else is blocking it from working properly after reboot. Please try cleanboot and try to determine which application is causing it. https://forums.stardock.com/505872/start11-support-faq#cleanboot

I'm getting this on that faq page:

Start11 Clean Boot

Error rendering macro 'excerpt-include' : null

From Related Articles and down, i get error rendering macro.

Edit: I followed this guide for clean boot: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows-da2f9573-6eec-00ad-2f8a-a97a1807f3dd#:~:text=Summary,with%20your%20game%20or%20program.

Same result.

Start button shows windows 11 menu.
Windows key shows Start11 menu.

Edit2: JanOscar, clicking the start button to reboot is not the same as rebooting later after installing start11. :)

Great... ah, found it finally.  It's right there, but, doesn't jump right out at you.  I'd suggest making it more obvious (don't hide it in a dropdown), and/or defaulting to rounded always instead of what it currently is.

Glad you figured it out.

Unfortunately the "Advanced rounded taskbar settings" apply to both maximized and non-maximized windows. So, if you have a rounded taskbar with a large vertical offset, the bottom of the maximized window can extend behind the taskbar. In that case, it's better to have a non-rounded taskbar because it drops down to the bottom of the monitor (no vertical offset) and the bottom of the maximized window aligns with the top of the taskbar. I believe the default settings are set as they are for that reason, so the average user is not confronted with this issue.

Just tried that ( The download link), the auto hide is better but when you put Y offset on rounded corner the bar dont show up on the second monitor so I need to put it to Y offset none .

Nice work keep me posted on next update ! When Y offset and auto hide will work it will make a such nice desktop.

Setup:
W11 Pro 23H2
1920x1080 (100% scaling) Primary monitor (right)
3840x2160 (100% scaling) Secondary monitor (left)

Enable enhanced taskbar + Start 11 autohide mode (disable windows auto-hide taskbar) - NOT using rounded taskbar

Causes the entire desktop to be unusable except the top left quadrant of the 3840x2160 screen. All icons get shifted there, cannot select/drag anything outside of this quadrant. Becomes basically unusable.

Here is a video since I didn't get any response. This really needs fixed, option is unusable until then.

Edit: Still an issue on the v2.0.1 build from the other thread.

Mine does this as well.  Top left quadrant of my 3440x1440 screen, and the top half of my left portrait (1080x1920) screen. Cannot select anything on the lower half of my left screen, 3/4 of my middle (main) screen, or anything at all on my right screen.

I can't click on any option on the power button.

I have the same problem. For me it happens when I press the Power button and quickly move the mouse up before the power menu completely shows up. The mouse picks up the focus of the items bellow the power menu and I can't select the power menu options. Hope this can help to track down the problem.

I've also noticed that this happens because in the beta version the animation speed of the menus is slower than usual.

First of all, it's awesome to have the Taskbar pins / Pin folder menu option! That's exactly what I've been missing since migrating to Win11.

I upgraded to v2 last night after reading this feature was part of the release and started trying this feature out today and it works great!

Only thing I'm noticing is there is no 'Right-Click' menu for the created folder icons in the Taskbar. Would be great to change the icon or add a name to keep track of what the various folder menus are.

Thanks!

Here's what I did for this. I created new folders in my USER folder and named them accordingly. Then I changed the icons of the folders to distinguish them. I used my COLOR FOLDERS for icon differentiation.

https://www.wincustomize.com/explore/icons/4759/

Then I put shortcuts for the files and folders I wanted to access into these folders. I then renamed the shortcuts and changed icons for my needs. After pinning these folders to my taskbar as "Folder menus," I can access everything I wanted and differentiate everything.

pelaird

Thanks for the tip. I had considered changing the folder icon then pin the menu folder again but without the ability to Right-Click and remove the pinned folder, how can I replace it?

This option listed in the Taskbar Pins setup menu does not seem to be working in my version.

Not working as in you cannot find it or?

That is standard windows functionality for pinned items to the taskbar.  Start11 is not involved with it

The right click functionality is not working with these newly created pinned menu folders. It still works with all other Taskbar items. I can move them around in the Taskbar, and they work brilliantly, but right clicking them does not bring up any menu on these items.

Researching this further, I found if I hold 'Shift' then right click a more robust context menu appears that allows me to unpin the menu folders and try again with some different formatting. I first tried to use this menu to change the icon but that did not work. Next I will change the target folder's icons and pin those.

Thanks, I tried it out. It doesn't solve the problem. It's related to the loosing focus. If you open the power menu and then go out of it to other menu item, in my case the "Sandbox" folder, the focus changes to that item.

Then as you move the mouse down, the focus stays with the other menu items, never coming back to the power menu. You can see that the focus is on the "Downloads" folder instead of "Sign-in options":

Ok, I didn't try moving to the other menu I was just happy I could use the power menu to shut down or sleep, yes it does lose focus and goes behind the power menu, however if you continue down to the power menu button it regains it focus and you can use the menu again at least it does on this computer, definitely a bug and hope it's sorted soon.

This is addressed in the upcoming beta update.  There was a link on the forums to an earlier one, but hopefully it will show up on my downloads today or tomorrow.
