Known issues

While we appreciate all feedback, please remember that we offer no official support for beta \ preview \ developer channel versions of Windows. If you report issues while in any of those early release channels, you should not expect them to be addressed unless it still exists in a retail version of Windows.

  • The 1st public beta is English only
  • A Steam version will be released after Groupy 2 is out of public beta.
  • For the purposes of the Beta, please 1st uninstall Groupy 1, reboot, and then install Groupy 2.  During the uninstall of Groupy 1, you will be given a choice to 'remove settings'; it would be wise to do so.  The additional uninstall option to keep your 'saved groups' (should you have them) can be left unchecked as they should still function.  Any reports of old saved groups not functioning should be reported here.

There are some slight problems with snap enabled, the tabs open to the top in a single window but are not visible becuase they are off-screen. I think, the active window should shrink  height by the amount of the tabs, if possible, as only moving will move it underneath the taskbar.

What a nice surprise. What I like the most about this is that it automatically turns off Windows 11's explorer tabs and replaces it with groupy's. This really connects all of the other windows 11 software all together more seamlessly.

The one issue I have noticed is some of the animations are a little off. The biggest is that maximizing animations is a bit off. i.e. Groupy tabs can be seen before everything else is animated.

I am using Windows 11 with the May 9th update

It would be nice if we had the tab removal for terminal also. :-)

Are you using Windows snap or powertoys and which version of Windows exactly?

Also is this the bar to show when not in a group or is it in a group already?

Windows 10 - 19045.2965 / Groupy 2

With "Place tabs above" selected / "Add background bar to the tabs" turned off / and "Show accent color on Title bars and window borders" checked in the Windows 10 Color settings, the text in the tabs is black. There needs to be a check by Groupy 2 of what the Accent color is so it can determine if the text should be black or white.

I have a multi-screen setup. When I group together certain apps (not yet apparent exactly which, but one example is Word and Excel), when I click on Excel the group jumps to the primary monitor in the center somewhere - always the same location, always the primary monitor.

I would like to be able to inherit tab color from the dominant color in the app's title bar or menu - and if that's something insipid automatically from the dominant color in the window. Alternatively from the dominant color of the app icon (either original or current if using different icons.)

This is ungrouped and with Fancy Zones of Powertoys used. Switched it off and using Windows Snap right now, which works.

Windows is as always the newest Insider build (I know about the support limitations). But I will also test it on a regular Windows 11 build.

I am very fond of the fact how flawless this build works regarding it is beta.

love it! better late than never /jab :P

would be great to have the option exposed/available to hide the groupy menu button/icon from the titlebar(s) though.  seeing as those same options are available when right clicking on a tab, some (read:me) would definitely prefer a more stealth/stock look without that being there.

just a thought/suggestion/recommendation/plea :)

Hello,
You have this feature. Always hide until mouse over those tabs.

Thanks

I downloaded the new Groupy 2, and the bug I reported on 2/27/2022 at 8:43:03 AM in the forum "Stardock Software > Groupy > Groupy 1.50 Release Issue Report Thread" is still appearing in this latest version.  Here is the bug once again:

[Edited to include link \ context client did not provide]

https://forums.stardock.com/506097/get;3840017

I am using Groupy version 1.5.  When I use it to group MS Excel files, there is a bug when selecting information in any one of the grouped files beyond the first one.  When highlighting rows (or columns) in Excel, the software is designed to display a small pop-up with the number of rows and columns selected.  This feature works correctly on the first Excel file within the Groupy, as shown in the first screenshot below.  (Notice that Excel is showing in the pop-up that the selected area is "4R x 16384C".)  On all other files within the Excel Groupy, the small pop-up is empty - it is not displaying the actual number of rows/columns selected (see second screenshot).

Screenshot #1 - Selected number of rows/columns is correctly displayed for the first file within the Groupy:

Screenshot #2 - Selected number of rows/columns is NOT displayed within the pop-up for all files beyond the first within the Groupy:

Windows version:
Windows 10; Version 21H2;  OS Build 19044.1566

Office version:
Microsoft® Excel® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2201 Build 16.0.14827.20198) 64-bit

[Removed ending comment as it did not provide context to the issue reported]

Windows 10 - 19045.2965 / Groupy 2

With settings as listed:

Place tabs above / Show all (in the taskbar) / Always Visible / Traditional tabs / and Add background bar to the tabs

When a grouped window is minimized, and you hover over the app on the taskbar: clicking one of the windows in the group opens to that tab, but as you then click on other tabs in the group, the window switches, but the tab is not highlighted. The tab for the originally selected tab stays highlighted.

If you minimize again and then hover over the app on the task bar, hovering over one of the thumbnails causes the tab bar to be painted without the window. Once the thumbnail is clicked, the window then opens.

Grouped windows don't always respect the Groupy 2 settings.

The overall look of the grouped windows and the settings UI is very nice. Also, the flexibility of customizing the tabs is awesome!

Groupy 2 is not stable enough for using on my Windows 10, everyday driver, so I have gone back to using Groupy 1.5.

Looking forward to future beta versions.

What do you mean by grouped windows don't always respect the Groupy 2 settings?

What do you mean by grouped windows don't always respect the Groupy 2 settings?

One example is: If I set the "Do not paint a tab when only one tab exists for the group" to OFF, Groupy 2 doesn't paint a tab when only one tab exists. Tabs don't show until a second tab is opened.

I am using PowerToys Fancy Zones and maybe that has something to do with it.

When I have more time, I will reinstall Groupy 2 and do more testing.

Yea I’ve also noticed that mousing over the titlebar of an ungrouped window with no auto groups or grouping settings saved seems to be then manifesting one above.  No idea if this is expected behavior enabled by default and a setting I need to disable or what (at work so only had a minute to play with it this AM).

don’t recall that being a thing with groupy 1, but haven’t used it since win10

happened with gpedit.msc fwiw
